moisturiser like creme de la mere but cheaper!

Is there such a thing? I'm desperate for a decent moisturiser. I tried a sample of creme de la mere and it was good, but way too expensive. Is there anything as good but without the price tag?

I'm using a simple one just now... which I love!

cornsilkscatholichamster · 08/01/2010 23:19

I tried the simple one but it didn't do anything for me.
Elemis procollagen marine cream is fab - about £60 a pot. Slightly cheaper is Decleor which is lovely especially with the iris oil. (see QVC for good deals)

BadPoet · 08/01/2010 23:45

I have heard it said that Nivea (the old-fashioned blue tub one) - contains almost the same ingredients as Creme de la Mer. Here's a blog post on the subject. Probably worth reading the comments about the ingredients, though.

I haven't used either. But for £2 ish, possibly worth a shot?

Olay Regenerist Micro-Sulpting Creme is lovely.

spikemomma · 09/01/2010 21:53

Thanks for your responses. Do you know Badpoet, i'd thought about nivea, as it's the same kind of consistency.

Thesecondcoming, i'd read about the aldi one, i should put the effort in and find an aldi!

My skin feels so dry at the moment, i'm despairing. So you girls have put some hope on the flakey horizon! Thanks.

Creme de lar mer felt like a cheap product on my skin - way over priced. Old school Nivea or Ponds feel exactly the same.

hf128219 · 09/01/2010 22:58

Waitrose baby bottom butter.

MadameDefarge · 09/01/2010 22:59

I have just started using REN rose synergy oil restoring facial serum, which has been fab. I have eczema, and usually have quite red blotchy facial skin when its bad, but this seems to have sorted it out.

hf128219 · 09/01/2010 23:04

Madame - the REN products are lovely.

MadameDefarge · 09/01/2010 23:08

yes, I am dead chuffed!

biggerfeetsmallerboobs · 09/01/2010 23:08

I've just bought Dr Nick Lowe day cream and night cream with my Christmas money after months of using supermarket face creams _ I can't tell you what a difference it's made. Really good results and I'd describe it as mid-priced (about £16 a pot), a little goes a long way and it's £5 off in Boots at the moment!

Olay 3 point regenerist cream is fabulous dahling.

LillianGish · 09/01/2010 23:20

Gosh that Nivea bog link is quite compelling. Have just snaffled a bit of dh's Nivea to test overnight! Could be a top Mumsnet bargain discovery if it turns out to right (not that I'd ever spend £125 a skin cream!)

LillianGish · 09/01/2010 23:24

Blog!

spikemomma · 09/01/2010 23:26

I know lilliangish, i've just read that blog - thanks again badpoet - which led onto other reading and now i'm on a roll!

The creme de la mere really did feel and smell like nivea, so i'm sort of being hooked up on the other reviews shpeel!

I need to get me to aldi and waitrose pronto. That's if my face doesn't fall off before then, argggghhh itchy, dry skin is hideous!

So glad i started this thread, i really was so fed up with what to do next. Thanks everyone.

You are welcome! I'm mesmerised by the rolling waves on watsthestory's link . I'd love to hear how it goes.

AitchTwoOhOneOh · 10/01/2010 00:05

i've been trying boots protect and preserve, or whatever it's called, it seems really nice and is on three for two.

JaneiteIsAWimpyTeacher · 10/01/2010 00:11

Preserve? Are you a Mummy (in the Egyptian sense)?

Olay Regenerist is v good indeed. Or something from Origins.

AitchTwoOhOneOh · 10/01/2010 00:12

i think it maybe isn't preserve...

ZacharyQuack · 10/01/2010 00:40

Trilogy Rosehip Oil is lovely for dry skin.

I have just been looking at the Seavite website. The managing director taught my DH when he was in primary school! I was informed by an accquaintance of hers (possibly jealous) recently that her glowing and youthful looks are the result of a facelift and not the cream she sells.

I also like Dr Nick Lowe and Kiehls.
