I got this today and it is fab.

Its light, not too bulky and so so warm. I may never ever take it off again.

Hmmm you got an XS you say? Website is only showing availability in an S - do you think that will be too big? (Am usually a size 8). I sized up a bit on my H&M puffa (got a 10) as don't like coats to be too tight fitting/like to be able to fita chunky jumper underneath.
Am extremely tempted by it for the precise reason you mention - I like my H&M coat but it is black and black really does me no favours esp in winter.

geordieminx · 05/01/2010 21:13

love it. looks very toasty, which given this rather cold spell we seem to be experiencing is quite important

FloSnake · 05/01/2010 21:14

No no no, we don't hate duvet coats, we love them! I have one, I bought it from TK Max for £60 back in the autumn and never thought it would be cold enough to actually wear it. But it has really been a godsend in the cold weather. The good thing about it is that the seams between the puffy bits go diagonally so are a bit more flattering than horizontal ones, it also goes in at the waist and has a belt! And it's washable! No hood- I know a lot of MNers love ccoats with hoods - but I actually prefer a warm wooly hat anyway.

VerityBrulee · 05/01/2010 21:35

There are lovely ones in Gerard Darel, very light and the fabric feels v luxurious.

IIRC hip length in navy, brown, black and a pale bronze, knee length in black and brown.

LetThemEatCake · 05/01/2010 22:13

I don't hate them, and I certainly don't hate that one.

my coat has changed my life. Can't believe how grumpy i used to be and it was all down to the cold. Now I am sweetness and light and toastiness

enjoy!!

lambanana · 05/01/2010 23:01

I like them and as cake says, being warm and having a cozy coat is the business.

I dont have a duvet coat but do have this

Was £10 in charity shop and still had tags on. It is truly the best piece of winter kit I have ever owned!

traceybath · 06/01/2010 07:25

What a bargain lambanana!

this is how to do it! They are quite stylish if you get the right one They are for warmth and you can't really get better Once you wear one you're hooked Mine got stolen in a restaurant and I never replaced it Wish i had it now1

Bonsoir · 06/01/2010 09:16

It's nice, traceybath!

If I see yet another school mother in her brand-new-for-Christmas Moncler and Uggs I will shoot!

BobtheWoodmouse · 06/01/2010 09:19

I have a beige (sounds awful colour but more of a pale gold really) puffa type long coat from Uniqlo. I love it. It's DH who hates it and on a quick poll amongst friend's DH's, they all hate them. DH says I look like a witchety grub in it - warm removable hood too that stays up.

BobtheWoodmouse · 06/01/2010 09:19

Forgot to add - I love yours

noddyholder · 06/01/2010 09:22

Agree with bob men hate them!

traceybath · 06/01/2010 09:24

A witchety grub - lol!

Bonsoir - must say moncler doesn't seem to have made it to Bath - we're not glam/wag enough in these parts.

OP posts:
Bonsoir · 06/01/2010 09:35

You just haven't got a Moncler retailer (yet)!

ADifferentMe · 06/01/2010 09:38

I love it - if I didn't already have a TK Maxx one that I live in I'd buy it.

Do you pay for returns with Timberland? I tried some boots on in there that I regret not buying..........

vesela · 06/01/2010 10:46

well done, lambana! The stadium squall is my winter coat and it does the job.

The best thing I've done this winter in terms of keeping warm, though, is to stop wearing jeans and start wearing skirts/tunics and leggings/thick cotton tights all the time - it's made a huge difference.

lambanana · 07/01/2010 09:32

Ves - I keep meaning to wear more skirts and tights but it is so easy to get into the rut of pulling a pair of jeans on.

I got some lovely grey cotton tights from h and m but all the rest are opaques which arent very warm!

I swear though that if I didnt have that coat I could not do the school run. Not that I have been out the house for 3 days ha ha!

Chandon · 07/01/2010 09:43

I live in my "Aigle Everwarm", I look huge in it, but I don´t care! I am warm !!!! I can play outside in snow with the kids for hours and not get cold!

I LOVE my big ugly coat.

I´ll start bothering about trying to look feminine and pretty in the spring

trixymalixy · 07/01/2010 15:39

I'm loving my £15 from Primark duvet coat!!

Mumsnut · 14/01/2010 16:09

Mine is a huge disappointment, looks nothing like the website picture - only one set of buttons for a start, just plain weird on a double breasted coat. Also much 'flatter' esp the collar which is v limp and unstuffed.

Going straight back!.

vesela · 14/01/2010 21:37

Have to say I'm really appreciating having a wipeable coat at the moment with a toddler who likes to be picked up all the time in her slush-covered snowboots...

Mumsnut · 15/01/2010 10:20

And snot on the shoulder ....

teddymummy · 27/01/2010 12:04

I have just sent back the Timberland long down coat as well. The buttons were hanging off already and only 3 buttons is not going to keep it done up all the way down. I also thought it was very flat and a bit cheaply made. Shame cos I have the Timberland outdoor perfomance short down jacket which is excellent- just a bit short for really cold days and has no hood. Today i got the Lands End stadium squall (by accident- I ordered the down filled long coat) but think I might keep it as cost £90 and they are £100 in sale.It is not pretty and I hope its as warm as a down filled coat. Some good comments on mumsnet so might give it a try today and send it back if i get 'bag lady' comments!!!!

Mumsnuts · 27/01/2010 14:33

That's exactly what I thought - flat and cheaply made. It just didn't have the plumply puffy look that the website picture did, with a defined waist, and there was only one row of buttons instead of 2 - although supposedly double-breasted. I found the whole performance around sending it back a bore as well.

I too have fallen back on Land's End - the long down coat is soooo warm. Have sent off for the Stamford also for its waterproof qualities.

teddymummy · 27/01/2010 15:00

Yes Mumsnuts- sending it back a right nuisance- loads of calls to UPS and then could not wait all day for a collection so just left in garage with a note stuck to the door. They did email today to say they had recieved it though. I wanted the Land's End Stamford down coat but they don't have any left. They sent me a long down coat today as an alternative - but its turned out to be the stadium squall. Keep trying it on in the hope it will get more stylish....it doesn't! But its so warm and feels very comfy and practical. Will wait for DH opinion when he comes home tonight- he is very good at that! And also it was his idea to get me a long coat because I will not stop complaining about being cold!
If you get a Stamford please do tell what its like and I might get one next winter.
