DS1 is starting school tomorrow and i need to get some 'pracical'-ergh i hate that word- boots that have got good grip and are waterproof.
I hate all the OTT fluffy type ones and loathe the 'walking shoes' style.
Any ideas?

How about these fancy wellies!

bluesuedepews · 04/01/2010 15:09

Snowjoggers are cheap on MandM atm.

BelleDameSansMerci · 04/01/2010 15:11

I got some Caterpillar (?spelling) boots which are grippy with lovely fur inside. Maybe worth having a look online? Depends how much you want to spend though.

BelleDameSansMerci · 04/01/2010 15:11

Oh, and they're not hiking type!

dexter73 · 04/01/2010 15:12

How about these beauties at M&M!!

OhForGodsSake · 04/01/2010 15:14

bluesuedepews · 04/01/2010 15:15

I was tempted by those snow joggers.

dexter73 · 04/01/2010 15:15

I have Musto boots and they are very warm and completely waterproof. I can stand in a stream with them on and my feet stay lovely and dry. I got mine half price at a Musto outlet.

nowwhatdoido · 04/01/2010 15:24

I have these brasher boliver boots

They are wonderful, and I have had lots of complements. Brasher usually make hiking and climbing boots, so these do the job, whilst looking good too.

bluesuedepews · 04/01/2010 15:27

Oh the puffin boots are lovely. Korma the SJ are lined with shearling so I presume they'd be warm, don't know about the sizing though.

nobodysfool · 04/01/2010 15:28

Dexter73-Jeez How much for a pair of wellies!?!?!Snow joggers look nice.

Bluesuedepews- having a look at M and M. Ta.

Belle- thats a good idea at least i could wear them for other stuff.

Does UGG stand for UGLY ??

Sadly i love the Musto ones....too much money though and i'm pretty sure my chunky calves wouldnt fit.

Dexter73, those boots look beautiful, but very expensive. I wonder if they take a lot of looking after - I wear heels down very quickly. My feet get really cold, would love to cover them in something water/mud-proof that didn't make me feel too clumpy.

GothDetective · 04/01/2010 15:32

Those Brasher ones are lovely.

scarymoo · 04/01/2010 15:33

I love my Merrell ones, very comfy and warm, waterproof and really good grip

BelleDameSansMerci · 04/01/2010 15:35

I wear my Uggs all the time but I do think it's still short for Ugg-ly. They appear to be completely waterproof and I've worn them all through snowy weather (in Yorkshire!) and they're still waterproof and look fine. Not to everyone's taste, of course!

scarymoo · 04/01/2010 15:36

oooh lovin the brasher ones though!

nobodysfool · 04/01/2010 15:37

sorry if i offended but i come out in a sweat when i see Ugg boots.
They do look comfy though.

These are fabulous. They have great grip (when everyone was slipping all over the place in the snow and ice, I had no trouble), they are waterproof and they are warm. They are also extremely comfortable. I have worn them constantly over the past couple of weeks and my feet have never ached (even after spending a day shopping in London).

They are so comfortable inside that I don't even need to wear long socks.

My calves are quite chunky but these are a lovely fit and I can even wear them over jeans.

I love them.

BelleDameSansMerci · 04/01/2010 15:49

NobodysFool, Uggs are hideous but they're welded to my feet most of the time. I'm a complete shoe queen too. I counted how many pairs of boots I have - 21 - and I still wear the Uggs. I have no excuse other than their comfort, waterproof-ness and grippy-ness in snow. Otherwise I'm just a bit about the whole thing really.

nowwhatdoido · 04/01/2010 15:49

The Brasher ones say they are "water resistant", but I've found them pretty much waterproof, in the rain, snow and ice. Not tried wading through a stream with them though! They are have memory foam in the soles, and are gore-tex lined, so very like proper walking boots, just much more stylish. They are very good quality, sturdy and easy to clean, and just look fab!

Pannacotta · 04/01/2010 15:59

The Brasher and Ecco boots are both really smart.
nowwhat where did you get your Brasher boots from? Also what is the calf fitting like, slim or wide?
I did check stockists but they have loads locally and havnt got time to go to them all...
