Has any one had it done, is it worth it? I have bleached depleted, waxed, threaded and plucked for years now and it is getting me down now. Whatever I do I have stubble the next day nothing lasts. Advise please....

have you been to to GP about this?

Excess hair is a symptom of PCOS, I think, and can be treated medically

I have same but gp says no pcos. Got vaniqa from GP but then got pg so not used for ages. I think it did help. You could try before laser. I will try laser when I have money I think but always worry about scarring.

LadyGaggia · 03/01/2010 20:52

I have PCOS and suffer from a patch of hair on the side of my chin.
This year DH bought me a home laser hair removal system.
I will try and report back!

Friend of mine had it done for facial hair - she said was well worth it, although she was warned she wouldn't get optimum results as she is Asian with black hair (I think the better the contrast eg white skin dark hair the better the result).

I've had laser, its fab, a bit sore, quite pricey but well worth it. The thrill of being un-hairy is really quite wonderful, its something that has plagued me since my early teens and finally coughed up for laser in my early 30s. It is something I will do again if I get hairy when Im menopausal (can't wait!) even if I do need to re-mortage!!

Mind you electrolysis works too but is much much slower.

Not sure of prices any more since its been a while since I had treatment. But do shop around for someone properly qualified, lots of places offer it now and I wonder if all are equally well trained.

IBlameThePMT · 10/01/2010 17:43

After thought - your hair does need to be dark, it doesnt work well with fair hair.

Mamazon · 10/01/2010 17:47

i am very dark as well. i dont have more hair than normal but for some reason it shows u a lot more on me than other women. and because i am very manly anyway i am conscious of it.

I usually pluck out the ones i see so its not as big a job all in one go but i have had threading done before and was very impressed with the result

i feel your pain SAL.

i am good at laughing it off as being yet another manly feature, but it is horrible.

I would love to get it all lasered off.

rookiemater · 10/01/2010 22:17

I am saving up tesco vouchers to get mine sorted out at sk1n. Hideously pricey, £500 to get rid of my side burns and beard, but with the tesco vouchers is effectively free.

I got an epilator for christmas so I'm having a go at using that until I have saved up enough vouchers, but its a bit ouchey.

Facial hair is horrible, it feels so unfeminine.

meg Thanks for starting this thread. I was about to start one myself ......

I am a hairy bugger and have been since I was a child - I am dark-haired with hairy arms and legs. I can deal with that (ignore the arms, shave the legs).

Even the moustache doesn't bother me too much (hair removal cream), but the chin (which happened after DS2) bothers me.

Have been given some money by my mum and am going to bite the bullet and look into laser removal.

Worried about redness/scarring, and where to have it done. Am inclined to look at one of the bigger plastic surgery-type clinics because I'm wary of a local beauticians - plus have never in my life been into one and am worried they will laugh.

Any recommendations in London, anyone ???

Jamieandhismagictorch · 11/01/2010 14:33

BTW - Anyone else have a wry laugh to themselves about hair removal cream adverts' "results last up to 2 weeks" claims.

Bollux : 2 days more like !

Jamieandhismagictorch · 11/01/2010 14:41
  • spurred into action, have contacted my local Sk:n clinic

Will keep you posted

rookiemater · 11/01/2010 17:28

Supersalstrawberry - send them to me, I'm still about £35 short even though I have raided my Mums, I will give you face value for them . (I'm not being serious btw have just been trying to convince Dh that he needs a new Tesco phone contract to get extra points)

quasimomo · 11/01/2010 21:54

Just wanted to recommend skin clinics for this - I had a course of treatment at one of the central London clinics, and they were very good. It did admittedly cost an absolute fortune - they are certainly making a massive proft from this type of treatment! It is a bit painful too, but it certainly did the trick and I was much happier knowing that the person coming at me with a laser knew her stuff. I wouldn't really trust a local beautician as you don't necessarily know how much training they may have had with the equipment. No scarring at all btw, or other side effects. Although, you have to watch how much sun you are exposed to so best to have it done in the winter months.

Jamieandhismagictorch · 12/01/2010 14:33

quasimomo - thanks for that. I've arranged a consultation for next week. I shall ask them about taking painkillers before the treatment.

Few questions:

How red does the skin go afterwards ? (will I have a red moustache ? for how long ?)

How many treatments did you have, and has the hair completely gone ?

Receptionist told me all the therapists are Doctors. Is this true as far as you know ?

Thanks x
