i don't wear make up, but after spending time with friends over christmas who i haven't seen for a while, and studying their faces to see who is aging the best/worst (we're all turing 40 atm), am beginning to think i should start to wear just a little bit.

how do i hide the dark circles without,

a. making them look worse with claggy concealer and patchy powder?

and

b. overdoing it and feeling like a clown?

And wear a light eyeshaow in the corner of your rye (near your nose.)

cocolepew · 31/12/2009 12:45

You know I meant eye, right?

I agree, sleep or lack of, ditto coffee, alcohol, exercise, even detox diet for two years due to IBS - none of the above makes a difference.

I've heard of Hyelexin but been put off by the price - does it really work?

DaftApeth · 31/12/2009 21:17

Touch eclat comes in four different shades, btw.

thanks for all the tips, i went to the local boots but it's such a small branch, the selection was poor, will go somewhere larger and try the products out.

i had a look through my make up, and i use that term loosely as what i have was bought when i was pg with dd (she's 8 on weds!), and i went really spotty. it's all body shop stuff, concealer, powder etc. think it may be a bit on the old side and need binning. do people still use tinted moisturiser (sp?) these days?

this is very good. I'm allergic to touche elcat and anyway it smells mouldy about a month after opening it. This is cheaper and better

a good base of eye cream or moisturiser and then some face primer so that concealer don't get stuck in lines around my eyes.

i then add on concealer and blend in with a make up brush or sponge.

i then put loose powder and add a light bit of bronze powder under eyes so i dont get that obvious concealer look.

i hate my eye area, i have deep set eyes, eye bags and dark blue/brown rings!

garlicandsapphires · 16/12/2021 21:16

Benefit Boing is also quite good though a bit matte

chillydownwiththefiregang · 16/12/2021 22:00

This thread is eleven years old.

Strictlydusting · 17/12/2021 18:13

That makes @lucykate daughter 19 now !!! Are you still dealing with dark circles?

Isaidnomorecrisps · 17/12/2021 18:52

I went to the Bobby Brown counter in John Lewis at around 45 and said sort these out. Was a miracle - eye cream and then a brush and concealer. Takes a couple of minutes in the morning but then I don’t do much else either. I’d tried other things and thought will just ask and see what they suggest.

Isaidnomorecrisps · 17/12/2021 18:53

Ha! Re thread

lol, thread is so old my user name has changed! but yes, DD is indeed 19 years old now, and yes, ohhh yes, the dark circles are very much still there Grin

As a side note, I have actually only just bought make up, DD is giving me lessons in applying it while she's home from Uni over Xmas x

@ShirleyKnott

stop drunking makes all teh diff
not for me and I used to do dry January every year.
Gwenhwyfar · 18/12/2021 12:40

@SpanishCYBILwar

op if you can bear to put fake tan on your face that makes a big difference to how obvious dhadows are.
this is the only thing that helps for me
Strictlydusting · 18/12/2021 13:48

@nipersvest how lovely - enjoy xx

Gonnagetgoing · 18/12/2021 14:00

For me Benefit boing concealer and a Clinique caffeine roll on to depuff - I’ve used my ex’s male version before now. Also mascara and nude eye pencil in rim to detract and benefit kitten as light reflecting eyeshadow draws eyes away from circles.

@Isaidnomorecrisps - what eye cream? I bought an Ark £40/£50 eye cream with roller ball that my beautician recommended but don’t see much difference when using it! Might try my 20s fave Touche Eclat again.
RozinaBullock · 18/12/2021 19:55

For me it has to be Rimmel’s Hide The Blemish in Natural Beige.

LifesTooShortForYourNonsense · 24/12/2021 17:41

Drink plenty of water. Like a pint in the morning and evening, use a vit c cream, I’ve not used concealer since, just a light foundation

Wendthespend · 24/12/2021 21:55

This is amazing at reducing the darkness of circles and very light so you can build it gradually until you've got the coverage you require. I use concealer on top then powder

Phoera make up

LoisLane66 · 25/12/2021 02:40

@lucykate
I too, do not wear make-up but occasionally need concealer. Having tried most brands at all prices, I find Maybelline was the best. I have fair skin which does not tan and after asking a group of teenage shoppers in Superdrug (pre Covid when there were samples) what they thought was the best match, they all agreed that this was the best. It has a twist collar which draws the product into the sponge applicator head. I use the tiny sponge tip of an eyeshadow brush to apply in small dabs, by dipping it onto the sponge applicator on the product. They have a good range of shades but it's best to test in broad daylight to get the best match. You don't want panda eyes. 😆
