I have accepted that I have to return my hunter wellies, so have a bugdget of about £60 I think.

I am in my wellies every day for at least an hour at weekends sometimes all day. They need to be good quality therefore and last.

They need to have good grips and be comfortable.

My self esteem at present too low to measure my offending calves but I will do.

i have the aigle parcours variable......or something like that. def parcours - a quick google should bring up the ones with adjustable bit for the, ahem, wider of calf! i couldn't get my porky legs into the ordinary parcours but these are fab.

much more comfy than hunters i've found. really supportive - based on a walking boot.

duckyfuzz · 22/12/2009 20:22

town and country wellies fit my hefty calves, v similar to hunters, 1/3 the price!

BikeRunSnowflake · 22/12/2009 22:27

I also have ahem, muscular, calves and wear wellies a lot - sometimes for several hours. I bought these fab wellies a couple of years ago, ave worn them loads, walked miles in them (v comfy for that too)and they are still going strong. Highly recommended, and half your budget. I have them in red, but loads of colours.

Onlyaphase · 22/12/2009 22:32

Have you tried Muckboots? I've always really struggled to find wellies to fit me, and bought Muckboots recently and they are perfect for me.

As they are neoprene, they are fabulously toasty, even in this weather, and also stretch to fit. First time I've had warm feet when dog walking in winter!

BikeRunSnowflake · 22/12/2009 22:41

Xposts with Fuzzy Duck

Twinkleandpearls · 23/12/2009 01:26

I was just thinking aout neoprone while walking up the path, freezing my tits off walking the dog by torchlight.

I will have a look at the website that my mum ordered them from and see what I cam get.

5gomad are they a wider calf or just normal?

Twinkleandpearls · 23/12/2009 01:26

Bike just to make clear my calves are all fat. I suspect I would make a lovely pate.

FiveGoMadInDorset · 24/12/2009 12:50

Just normal but they have a gap at the top with an adjustable buckle. Mine are also neoprene.

Twinkleandpearls · 24/12/2009 19:18

That sounds tempting, I am going to find somewhere to try some on so I dont have to return another pair.

Get Muck Boots!

They are toasty warm, really comfy and are just plain fab

I've had mine for 2 years now and I love 'em to bits

They even fit my (more than) chunky calves

WynkenBlynkenandNod · 24/12/2009 19:51

I've got those Jileon lardy calf dotty ones Cordonbleugh linked to. They fit with lots of room to spare where nothing else gets close.

ScroogeMacDog · 24/12/2009 19:51

I've got the Derwent Muck Boot

I have given up on my own wellies and wear my husbands every morning and evening to put out and bring in the horses. They are three sizes too big and slip on easily with no need to bend down. I have walking boots for long walks with the dog.

4teenmum · 25/12/2009 11:44

My husband just reminded me of our trip to the Napo Lodge in Equador. Wellies were provided for all guests. They simply cut the top of the wellies with a razor so I could get them over my calves. Prgmatic but not very stylish. (NB We are travelling to my brother's for Christmas Day lunch so I'm not shirking my responsibilities by seeking company from Mumsnet - just avoiding being a back seat driver).

aJumpedUpChristmasElf · 25/12/2009 19:01

Another vote for Muckboots - they are super comfortable and very warm

LolaLadybird · 26/12/2009 17:54

These are the Aigle ones that Ceres has already mentioned. I bought mine last week and love them. Normally I hate wearing wellies for walking but went for a long walk in these today and they were v comfy. (My calves are way too chunky for Hunters etc).

I also tried on the Aigle boots with a neoprene lining (about £30 more expensive but heaven in the snow I imagine). The only thing that put me off - apart from the price - was the thought of wearing them on a wet but warm spring day.

Twinkleandpearls · 27/12/2009 14:01

Thanks for all your advice.

Do Duo do wellies? If not, they should really shouldn't they?

My wellies come from Fultons and are the swirly ones on the left hand side at the top of the page. They are probably slightly shorter than your average Hunter but they have a cunning adjustable bit so that they fit even the widest calf and can also get your jeans down there too.

Been v pleased with them!

accessorizequeen · 27/12/2009 15:37

Am I missing something, could you get the short hunter wellies and avoid the calf problem? Or do you need long ones for mud?
I have never owned wellies but was thinking of buying some as need something to keep feet dry on days like these when there is snow & ice. My socks are wet through with my ordinary black leather boots. Could do with advice from wellie wearers please!
Would short wellies work ok, I'm only talking about school runs etc, I prefer trainers for the most part & live in middle of a city. And are they generously sized as I am 42/43 (8/9) in normal shoes? Ought I to buy men's wellies? Just like the pretty girl colours, I guess. The joules wellibobs appealed to me? But not fleece lined ones as I get v.hot feet even this time of year. Hope you find what you're looking for, twinkle

Twinkleandpearls · 27/12/2009 15:41

I bought the shorter wellies and they are a really bizzarre fit and still too tight at the top. It also gets very muddy around here.

Thanks accesorize and quilted

I have this problem, I tried mens Hunters and they still wouldn't fit.

I've given up with wellies, but shall watch this thread with hope.

WynkenBlynkenandNod · 27/12/2009 16:03

I'm withdrawing my recommendation for the Jileon ones posted further down as I think they might be leaking a little on one foot. So I'm now back to square one, wore my walking boots on dog walk today and am covered in mud.

Twinkleandpearls · 27/12/2009 16:10

Thanks Wynken, sorry they are leaking

Can someone explain muck boots to be. Do they have a stretchy leg, so they fit and size calf?

WynkenBlynkenandNod · 27/12/2009 17:51

That's what I've read is supposed to happen JH, they make a point of saying they will stretch to fit.
