Right, no more parabens for us, so how do I keep looking halfway decent?

I want to get rid of all the paraben filled cosmetics and beauty products that I own. I've been through my make up and other stuff and its all full of them.

I want to chuck the lot and start again.

I am looking for the very best of the following:

Body moisturiser
Face day cream (with SPF15)
Face night cream
Shampoo
Conditioner (dry hair)
Suncream for the children so a high a factor as possible
Make up - foundation, concealer, cream / brown / purple eye colours, nude / amber lips, black mascara

Ideally I don't want to have to use powder cosmetics coz I know I'll drop them and it will all just get messy! Pressed where possible on the make up front I think.

Just got myself completely re-stocked from Naturissimo. Love the look of the Ren stuff though. Will try it if I don't have any joy with what I ordered, but seeing as it wil require a forklift truck just to get my samples upsatirs then I"m hoping I won't have to bother.

i have a question - if its organic is it then also paraben free? i have started with organic shampoo/ conditioner and shower wash this week and have organic hand cream and whilst my skin certainly looks less aggravated where I have excema i'd be interested to know if its the lack of parabens that is doing it?

rimmer08 · 23/12/2009 11:29

try lush

MummyTumble · 23/12/2009 12:36

don't think Lush are paraben free...

bottersnike · 23/12/2009 12:47

Body moisturiser - still looking, but tend to use GreenPeople Butter stuff post-bath

Shampoo - GreenPeople Aloe Vera - lovely and don't need much
Conditioner (dry hair) - GreenPeople Intensive Conditioner.
Suncream for the children so a high a factor as possible - GreenPeople (yes, I really like them!) Kids Suncream
Make up - I don't tend to wear much make-up, but GreenPeople have just brought out their own range, so will be trying it.

For other stuff, I use Bionsen deodorant.

I've seen Faith in Nature for sale through ecocentric.co.uk, and GreenPeople stuff is available in Waitrose/Ocado too.

Good luck!

tispity · 23/12/2009 12:48

with lush, it depends - they publish details of what's in each product in their free newspaper; watch out for the colourings and SLS

Tesco "Vitamin E" range is paraben free. Cleanser is only around 70p per bottle and works very well for my problem skin. Moisturiser is very light so a good day moisturiser for anyone who doesn't have very dry skin.
The facial wash is ok too.

Jergens do paraben free body moisturisers/shampoos etc and they are pretty nice. Last a long time as well.

Neals yard frankincense (seasonal huh?) facial moisturiser is fantastic if you want either something a little more hydrating as a day cream or to use as a night cream for combination skin. It is another one that is really good for my problem skin.
(I have pcos and am prone to adult acne)

maristella · 23/12/2009 22:22

i love dr hauschka and neals yard stuff - esp ny's violet day cream (a-ma-zing.) and dr h's quince or rose day creams
i use the violet at day, as it's great under make up, and use the rose or quince at night as they're really rich.
i would love to try the rest of their ranges, but i'm uber skint. i'll know i'm living the dream when i have giant cupboards full of their products

Might be worth getting this book, the Green Beauty Bible which lists lots of eco products and reviews of them
www.amazon.co.uk/Green-Beauty-Bible-completely-gorgeous/dp/1856268519/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1261607 469&sr=8-1-fkmr0

Brands I rate
Faith in Nature, good shampoom conditioner, liquid soap
Lavera, lovely body washes, and skin care
Liz Earle, excellent skin care (bit ££)
Neals Yard, again good skin and body care
Dr Hauchka, make up and skin/body care
Weleda, esp good for kids products, toothpaste/nappy cream

Think most organic products shoudl be paraben and SLS free but not 100% sure.

passionfruity · 23/12/2009 23:21

Olive oil is brilliant as a face wash / moisturiser

upafrozenhill · 25/12/2009 16:26

What's going on with beginganew?? Loads of withdrawns happening.

Hmm

Try Dr Organic from Holland and Barratt - they do facial cleansers, moisturisers, shampoo, body wash etc. I have used pomegranate facial moisturiser (anti aging or something)and vitamin e skin moisturiser (for all over) in a tube.

Tesco Bnatural also paraben free and some is organic.

If a product is 100% organic then it should be paraben free, however, some companies, e.g. boots sell ranges which include some organic ingredients in them (e.g. organic almond oil) but the rest of the product is not organic and still contains chemicals.

All of the creams that I've looked at in Lush contain parabens.

The problem with paraben-free roll-ons is that they are deodorant but not anti-perspirant and therefore don't stop you sweating.

Michellesara1979 · 28/05/2011 11:07

Just to let you all know that Boots range of Organics products contain Parabens! I think it's really misleading calling it Organics. I've emailed them and got the usual response saying that parabens have been found safe etc etc. I wrote back saying they should change the name as it misleading, but I'm sure they won't. Needless to say I won't be buying that range again.

There is a great shampoo and body wash range called Halos and Horns for children which is free from anything nasty.

I also now use Nivea Naturals creams as they are free of parabens.

Hopefully · 28/05/2011 12:22

Definitely rate the Green People sunscreen - less sticky than lots of bigger brands.

I found Faith in Nature shampoo and conditioner a big meh, the only really good ones I've found are Neals Yard, which is pricey. Incidentally, of all the (millions) of nasties-free shampoos I've tried, only the Neals Yard ones have kept my dry scalp at bay.

PitRok deoderant is fab

Liz Earle stuff is great, can't fault it, but quite £££

Method great for cleaning if you want lower chemicals in the house generally.

Burts Bees stuff is all great (is that [paraben free? I actually can't remember now)

I am currently on the hunt for decent nasties-free make up, and I think it might end up being the one area I compromise on, I just cab't find the kind of quality I want if I'm going to spend loads. Might settle for Clarins etc, which at least aren't tested on animals.

MissFoodie · 28/05/2011 13:34

I write a blog about food and beauty, and specifically do not use any products, including make up, that contain mineral oils, silicones or parabens, so if you need suggestions.......i've tried a lot and have zillions more to write about, just not enough time!
also reviewed eco friendly cleaning products recently too
