Right, no more parabens for us, so how do I keep looking halfway decent?

I want to get rid of all the paraben filled cosmetics and beauty products that I own. I've been through my make up and other stuff and its all full of them.

I want to chuck the lot and start again.

I am looking for the very best of the following:

Body moisturiser
Face day cream (with SPF15)
Face night cream
Shampoo
Conditioner (dry hair)
Suncream for the children so a high a factor as possible
Make up - foundation, concealer, cream / brown / purple eye colours, nude / amber lips, black mascara

Ideally I don't want to have to use powder cosmetics coz I know I'll drop them and it will all just get messy! Pressed where possible on the make up front I think.

best place to start is your local independant health food shop/chemist (not H&B). off the top of my head

Body moisturiser - donno, never used
Face day cream (with SPF15) - dr hauschka (£££ german brand)
Face night cream - ditto
Shampoo - i use Faith in Nature
Conditioner (dry hair) - Faith in Nature
Suncream for the children so a high a factor as possible - i just use Aloe Vera but we don't have skin that burns
Make up - foundation, concealer, cream / brown / purple eye colours, nude / amber lips, black mascara - donno, don't use
Deoderant: Cristal (for roll on) - lasts ages

DO NOT GO TO LUSH - IT IS NOT A PARABEN FREE ZONE

best website is www.naturisimo - can request up to 5 free samples. i order from them a lot and have not had any problems. there are many other websites if you google around

cheapest alternative is to make your own (i am looking into this a lot atm)

tispity · 20/12/2009 21:30

btw, aforementioned website does sell makeup.

if you use hair colours, i would seriously consider looking into switching over to natural brands too.

Also really like Faith in Nature, it is my shampoo/conditioner of choice without taking parabens into account.

Purplebuns · 20/12/2009 22:06

Pit Rok is a good deodorant

morethanyoubargainfor · 20/12/2009 22:10

for deodarant i use 'salt of the earth' salt stick.

nicm · 20/12/2009 22:10

dr hauschka for face creams. i use their cleansing cream, toner and day oil. deoderant you could try biosen which has no aluminium or parabens in it. shower gels are hit and miss. have to check the labels all the time but loads don't.

baby stuff, use little me organics for ds. baby wipes jackson reece.

shampoo naked from boots but normally just use loreal

good luck it's hard work!

Tisserand - lovely essential oil products - do a good range of shampoos, conditioners, body washes, creams, etc. Good value for the quality of the ingredients. I am going to switch over this brand when I have used up what I have.

25% off "here"

Also recommend Neal's Yard but a bit more pricier than tisserand. Also I think that Origins products are also organic - would definitely recommend their products though a little pricey. Not sure about Aveda, but their shampoos are amazing.

Body shop have a organic range too - it's on their website, there is a moisturiser, serum and night cream.

Also Little Me range which you can get from boots - it's a baby range but do lots of lovely creams and shower gels and shampoo all between £3 - £5 which I use sometimes.

northender · 20/12/2009 22:21

Another vote here for roll on deodorant from Tom's of Maine

pointsmakeprizes · 20/12/2009 22:21

I used an Avene moisturiser before and really liked it as well. Just realised that the website I linked to seems to have a lot of natural products on it. I think I got the skin doctor stuff from tesco before but it made my skin sting so I would not recommend that.

Blimey - there's more out there than I thought. Some of it looks lovely. Some is a bit £££ though! eeek.

lavera v nice indeed!

RamblingRosa · 21/12/2009 08:55

Definitely go for mineral make up. Try Bare Escentuals or Lilylolo. All paraben (and other nasty stuff) free and loads of brilliant colours.
Dr Haushka for moisturiser.
Faith in Nature do some of the best "natural" shampoos and they're fairly cheap too.
Ren and Aromatherapy Associates are good for more expensive treats.
Deodorant's always a tricky one. Weleda do one and I know people who swear by Pit Rok (grim name!).

purplepeony · 21/12/2009 10:21

REN- all parabens free- their rose shower gel is the best thing ever. Ditto all body lotions and moisturisers.
www.renskincare.com

Try DrHauschka for make up?

I don't work for them- just a convert.

Thinking about being more 'organic' myself - sort of NY resolution for 2010....

this site seems to cover a lot!

www.soorganic.com/

CiderIUpAndSetIFree · 22/12/2009 18:15

Bear in mind though that organic doesn't equal paraben-free - unless it specifically advertises itself as paraben-free it probably isn't.

Tesco do a bargain paraben-free range (called Bnatural I think) - the products are nice enough, I just wish they would change the citronella fragrance, it's a bit too reminiscent of horsefly repellent for me.

CiderIUpAndSetIFree · 22/12/2009 18:20

Having said that all the products I've looked at so far on the SoOrganic site do say they are paraben free. I do like Dr Hauschka and Weleda stuff, especially the rose flavoured ranges.

tispity · 22/12/2009 19:58

well done - glad you have taken the plunge. have a good christmas

stillfrazzled · 22/12/2009 20:22

Tara Smith shampoo and cond is lovely and also paraben-free - you can buy it at Tesco, approcx a fiver a bottle.
