I would like a jumper dress but

Quite fancy a jumper dress to wear with tights and knee high boots BUT I don't want it to be wool (too itchy) or acrylic (too sweaty). Has anybody seen anything that looks like a jumper dress but is in lovely warm cotton, or something? Thanks.

Unlikely, as cotton is notorious for losing its shape and so a cotton jumper dress will get baggy bottom almost immediately.

Cashmere? Or a woollen one worn over a cotton polo neck and with cotton tights?

spicemonster · 12/12/2009 21:26

Merino wool isn't itchy. Uniqlo do them.

ShinyAndNew · 12/12/2009 21:27

I have a cowl neck wool one that I wear over skinny jeans and a long sleeved top.

JaneiteMightBite · 12/12/2009 21:30

Thank you. I don't want wool though!

What can I get instead that will be nice and cosy but not a pair of bloody jeans and a jumper?

Can't you wear cosy cotton tights with a skirt and top?

JaneiteMightBite · 12/12/2009 21:38

Oh I do that too - my favourite is cosy tights, silk skirt and cashmere/silk mix jumper - but I fancied a dress.

i have this jersey dress which s 100pc cotton its lovely

largely sold out online but they do have instore and also in a nice plum colour.

JaneiteMightBite · 12/12/2009 22:53

That is cute (especially considering it's Next) but the neckline is too high for me, I think. I really need a scoop or v neck neck that I can perhaps layer something underneath. Thanks.

nicolamumof3wisemen · 13/12/2009 08:17

i wear mine with a polo or other long sleeve underneath.

NorkilyChallenged · 13/12/2009 11:34

Cowl neck jumper dress in cotton I think there are other ones too if you want to search

JaneiteMightBite · 13/12/2009 11:43

Thanks Nork. It looks a bit too clingy though!

OP posts:
NorkilyChallenged · 13/12/2009 11:46

Yes, their stuff does look clingy doesn't it?

Tbh, I find that jumper dresses are generally quite clingy. I have conducted extensive research by staring at other mums at soft play and find that it is often much less flattering on than it seems as a prospect.

JaneiteMightBite · 13/12/2009 11:58

The look I want is sort of loose cosiness a la Cath Kidston catalogues.

Maybe I need a 'house dress'?

OP posts:
NorkilyChallenged · 13/12/2009 12:08

Then I advise, long-sleeve top (maybe even polo neck if you like them) in material that will not irritate you, tights and this from Uniqlo. Good mooching around the house and looks loose (though not seen in real life)

JaneiteMightBite · 13/12/2009 12:09

That's nice - I love boat necks. Tis wool though - is it really soft?

No Uniqlo here either, anymore.

OP posts:
NorkilyChallenged · 13/12/2009 12:14

I dont' know as we don't have Uniqlo here either but maybe it's worth ordering to see? I've heard good things about their merino stuff.

Cashmere okay? it's still wool but you mention wearing it.

JaneiteMightBite · 13/12/2009 12:17

I love cashmere but really don't fancy the idea of a cashmere dress - it makes me shudder a bit tbh. Weirdo emoticon.

No point ordering over the internet: need to try on as vary between a size 8 and a 14 dependent on shape and style. May try and get down to London over the holiday to look in store.

NorkilyChallenged · 13/12/2009 12:18

Gap cashmere, bit looser fit

Cosy, cashmere, costly

NorkilyChallenged · 13/12/2009 12:19

Ah, see my cashmere suggestion get a shudder

Not sure, will think about it and see if I come up with other cosy, mooching around the house options that are not too clingy. Tricky though.

Jigsaw have some lovely silk, loose dresses that you could wear with something cosy under? Really not sure how to get warmth without wool/acrylic though.

JaneiteMightBite · 13/12/2009 12:21

I love the purple one on the Jigsaw site. Am waiting to see if it goes into the sale. That is EXACTLY the look I'm after - with a thermal long-sleeved top under it and M&S cashmere mix tights - yum.

OP posts:
NorkilyChallenged · 13/12/2009 12:30

I KNEW it!

Look at some of the other Jigsaw ones, some of the silk-type things would have the right look and you could cosy it up with thermal long sleeves as you say. Then you don't have to worry about itch.

JaneiteMightBite · 13/12/2009 12:32

Can't afford any of the Jigsaw ones though - when's the sale?

OP posts:
NorkilyChallenged · 13/12/2009 12:33

Sorry, I meant look at some of the other Jigsaw ones in the sale (haven't checked but some are).

Don't know when the rest of the sale is, sorry, I can't afford Jigsaw either I'm sure someone here will know though

JaneiteMightBite · 13/12/2009 12:36

Thanks ever so much for your help. Must go and do something else now - instead of wishing to spend money that I haven't got. Will have a mooch on the Jigsaw site later - and dream.

I recently bought a Uniqlo one online from their website. It was £24 and is great! It is wool, but extra fine merino so it is quite thin but still warm. It is not like wool at all.
