Primer - have never been convinced but god Loreal Resurfacing Primer has made my skin look flawless

I have used primers on and off for a couple of years, never been very convinced as to their usefulness.

Read about the Loreal Professionals one a couple of weeks back in Sunday Times Style and it said it was the best primer available.

It is excellent. You put it on and it makes your skin feel ultra smooth, and covers blemishes to the extent it looks like you have got foundation on. PLUS my foundation now stays on all day, instead of falling off shiny areas, and settling into dry patches on my cheeks. It is probably the best £12 I have ever spent on make up.

(Don't work for Loreal btw)

Thanks for the rec. I have a big occasion at the weekend- and a spot or two to match! May try it. May I ask what others you've tried?

bethoo · 09/12/2009 13:39

thanks, will have a look out for it.

GetOrfMoiLand · 09/12/2009 13:39

Have tried Laura Mercier (ok but nowt special) and le base (what a ponce name) from Lancome. Plus Max Factor did a foundation with a seperate bottle of primer a couple of years ago, that was rubbish.

it does sound like it belongs in paint aisle of b&q tho doesn't it?

MollieO · 09/12/2009 13:42

How does it compare to Clarins Beauty Flash Balm?

SpawnChorus · 09/12/2009 13:42

Oooh. Posts like this always get me all excited.

GetOrfMoiLand · 09/12/2009 13:45

Yes it does! But then again a lot of beatyu products do - exfoliating pads (sandpaper), scrub (swarfega) concealer (pollyfilla).

I wouldn't class Beauty Flash Balm as a primer per se, it is just something which makes your face glow a bit. The primer from Loreal actually seems to change the texture of your face, and gives the foundation soemthing to 'grip' to as well.

Usually when i look in the mirror at the end of the day my make up has worn off (probably from holding my head in my hands and rubbing my eyes etc) however yesterday all my make up was still on. Plus skin looks a lot less blotchy.

lol bursting

I thought this was a DIY thread at first. Was going to come n and say "Oi! push off to DAdsNet".

GetOrfMoiLand · 09/12/2009 14:00

Lol I did think to put 'not the type of stuff you get from B&Q' in the thread title but thought that the fact I put Loreal would give the game away!

Right so I'll be popping this on my stocking filler list! Will this make me look better as currently early pg and my face well... i look more like a podgy junkie with spots!

Sammy74 · 09/12/2009 16:29

GertOrf is it this one?

primer

GetOrfMoiLand · 09/12/2009 16:33

Sorry Sammy - cannot open the link (firewall at work) but of you put in Loreal Resurfacing Primer into google it will come up (this thread is third on the list bizarrely).

OP posts:
Sammy74 · 09/12/2009 17:24

I think it is that one - is it in a pot rather than a tube? Loreal seem to have loads of primers..

brimfull · 09/12/2009 17:29

Avon do a great primer as well. Called face summat.
Trouble is it makes my foundation pill when I put it on.

Would love to try this l'oreal one-it definitely doesn't pill then?

CybilLiberty · 09/12/2009 17:31

yes I was going to ask that, I use a compact foundation so hate it when it bobbles up

hohoholepew · 09/12/2009 17:32

I use the Avon one, it needs to be rubbed in really well. Might change now though.

AmazingBouncingFerret · 09/12/2009 17:36

Might try some of that when I get paid then, im now 39+4 and my skin has already started to lose that pregnancy sparkle and go all crap again. Will try anything to make me feel remotely human and not like a beached whale.

SpottyMuldoon · 09/12/2009 17:49

I'm about 2/3 of the way through a pot of this. It's very good. Sort of fills everything in and makes skin tone more even. Don't make the mistake I made of thinking the more you put on the more it will fill in lines (I want them to disappear completely dammit!). It doesn't and if you use too much it does make your foundation pill.

I've found it's best to use it sparingly and kind of dab the foundation into my skin rather than smooth it as that makes it worse. Also found I don't need as much foundation anyway when wearing this.

All I need now is something to debag my eyes and get rid of my three age spots (damn sunbeds!)

spicemonster · 09/12/2009 17:52

I don't usually wear foundation, only tinted moisturiser. Could I put that over the top of this do you think?

I've googled it and it has rave reviews on the net

This is going to be like baby bottom butter isn't it - shops up and down the country will sell out in seconds

pointsmakeprizes · 09/12/2009 17:58

I'm convinced by this thread - will def be getting this as my next primer! Thanks ladies (unless it turns out to be cr*p).

SpottyMuldoon · 09/12/2009 18:24

Spice, you might find that you don't need the tinted moisturiser if you use the primer. Maybe just a bit of blusher or bronzer if you need a bit of colour. It literally resurfaces your skin so it looks more even and the lines are less noticeable. Obviously it doesn't hide everything but it all looks a bit smoother and it feels very silky.

The only other primer I've used is the GOSH primer which also feels nice and silky but I prefer the L'Oreal one.

GetOrfMoiLand · 10/12/2009 08:23

Have found that I use a lot less fouindation now I use this - it doesn't pill at all, however I use liquid foundation not cream so perhaps that's why.

Yes, it is the primer in the pot Sammy, is very pale pink with a black lid. It's in the Professionals range.

I was about to buy the Benefit that Gal primer, but as I have £13 of reward points in boots I'll give this a whirl. I use a Clinique superbalanced mineral pressed powder foundation - that should be ok to use on top of the primer, no?

hellsbelles · 10/12/2009 08:38

oh thanks for the tip getorf....I'm desperate for something to perk up my miserable face so this sounds perfect
