Could you get by if you bought no new clothes for the whole of 2010?

Maybe this thread should be in credit crunch.

If new accessories were allowed could it work....?

CertainAge · 05/12/2009 14:21

I don't think I have bought anything for myself in 2009, so it is perfectly possible to go a whole year without indulging.

malfoy · 05/12/2009 14:22

Same as CertainAge but I look dreadful.

Themasterandmargaritas · 05/12/2009 14:29

Are you mad?? I couldn't possibly not buy something and I don't even have proper shops...

It's not a question of getting by.

TheCrackFox · 05/12/2009 14:31

Yes, I have done it in the past. In 2002 and 2006. It isn't that hard but a little depressing never the less.

yama · 05/12/2009 14:32

Yes, easliy. I could call upon my student thriftiness and make do.

HohohoBumperlicious · 05/12/2009 14:32

Erm, I can't remember the last time I bought new clothes...some trousers from ebay a few months ago, then not since May. Some people have to manage, so I would say it could be done.

biglips · 05/12/2009 14:35

up to now ive bought a pair of leggings and thats it. cant afford any new clothes and i do need new pair of boots as ive got holes in mine so im just wearing my walking shoes atm

DecorHate · 05/12/2009 14:39

Yes apart from things I wear all the time like jeans and boots which would possibly wear out by then...

jemart · 05/12/2009 14:44

Buy nothing? bit tricky. Buy nothing brand new but secondhand is okay? this I can do.

Lulumama · 05/12/2009 14:52

does this exclude things like underwear and tights?

i am sure i could get by without buying any new clothes, i have clothes for all eventualities, and accesories and shoes. and pashminas. and coats.

i could, but i thikn i would be miserable

would like to buy less and use charity shops though...

i think i shall sort out my wardrobe acutally, as i alwyas forget about stuff and end up with 4 very similar dresses/jumpers/tunics

i think with accesories, it could work

are we doing this as a challenge, ilovejonty?

are you throwing down a gauntlet?

juneybean · 05/12/2009 14:53

I don't think so as my jeans get worn out and I'd end up looking like a tramp lol

Well I would like to try but I doubt I could resist. Maybe if I bought some sale bargains before the end of 2009 it would be easier. I don't actually need anything really and I know I buy too much.

ChatterClausIsComingToTown · 05/12/2009 14:59

I could do it if forced to. I have enough clothes to mix it up a bit for a year. But I would miss buying the odd uber trendy item of the season.

weegiemum · 05/12/2009 15:03

I know I'd have to buy jeans at some point as mine are close to the end ....

But apart from that, yes, I could manage, no bother!

Meglet · 05/12/2009 15:09

I could possibly do it if I had enough wardrobe space to organise what I currently have. I only have about 3ft of hanging space so everything else gets stuffed into drawers and hidden, so I forget it's there and buy new things.

Now, if I had a walk in wardrobe / dressing area my life would be perfect .

Dumbledoresgirl · 05/12/2009 15:12

Well, in the whole of 2009 I can only remember buying one pair of jeans (new) and a shirt from a charity shop, so, yes I could get through 2010 with nothing new, but would I want to is another matter. I would dearly like to splash out on some new things.

traceybath · 05/12/2009 15:13

God no. I tend to have a few things that I wear to death.

Also am just losing final bits of baby weight so planning on new clothes to suit new figure.

Will also stop bf next summer so will be embracing clothes that aren't bf friendly.

Dirtgirl · 05/12/2009 15:54

I could easily do it in theory, because I've got loads of clothes. I would be utterly miserable though.

RorysRacingReindeer · 05/12/2009 15:55

yes but i'd be bored and a shapeless frump - had a baby 9in Sept so everything is stretched

I could do it, in practical terms. i don't need any new clothes (apart from tights, maybe, but that's because i've not had any new tights for 2 years and all these are fallign apart) but it's nice to get new ones.

so, if i get tights for christmas, then yes, i can last a year without new clothes.

apart from, i'm intending to be getting married in august: i might need a new dress for that. (still waiting to be asked though)

Earlybird · 05/12/2009 16:04

i've only bought a new pair of shoes this year for myself.
I could afford more, but don't enjoy shopping and don't 'need' anything.

Also, have other priorities for 'extra' money (like overpaying the mortgage, and saving for dd's college fund).

I have enough clothes to last ten years of buying nothing

but I'm a bit of a shopaholic so I couldn't do it
