Could you get by if you bought no new clothes for the whole of 2010?

Maybe this thread should be in credit crunch.

If new accessories were allowed could it work....?

I bought nothing new for all of 2009. But I spoilt all that by going on a catalogue spree last weekend; my excuse being that I had a nasty miscarriage last month and if I can't be pregnant then I'm bloody well going to be stylish to make up for it!

upahill · 05/12/2009 16:12

I could but I am sure as hell not going to go 12 months without buying something!!!

I love gettting summer stuff but didn't bother this year as the weather was so awful. Hopefully next year will be brighter!!

not for me
I have hardly any clothes as it is

Feelingoptimistic · 05/12/2009 17:04

Yes, I could easily do it - probably even for two years, because I don't tend to wear things out. In fact I keep thinking that maybe I should try to have at least 6 months without buying anything.
But, I do enjoy having nice clothes, and getting the occasional compliment. I don't have much else that makes me feel good in my life at the moment.

serinBrightside · 05/12/2009 20:39

If I had to, but I would have to spend more on wine to cheer myself up.

ShowOfHands · 05/12/2009 20:47

Haven't bought new clothes since 2006 and they were a second hand maternity bundle from ebay.

crankytwanky · 05/12/2009 20:57

No, because I'll be popping a sprog in March, and just know I'm going to be bigger than a twelve!

I have bought next to nothing this year.

bluebump · 05/12/2009 21:03

Yes if I actually dropped a dress size! I have just vac packed all of my clothes that I still can't get into. (one year post natal eek) I have bought cheap things to keep me going until I am motivated enough to lose weight so I doubt they would actually last a year!

I could recycle - flog off some unworn stuff and use money for secondhand/ cheap new stuff. And - I'd have to do a bit of yo yo dieting as most of my summer stuff is 10/12, but I'd have to be a 14 again for the autumn!

nowwhatdoido · 06/12/2009 11:17

I'm going to try this. I've bought a lot of new stuff over the last few months. I reckon I could get away with even not buying any underwear.

MadameOvary · 06/12/2009 11:35

Easily. I've been wearing the same clothes for years.
That said, I've spent more on clothes in the last two months than in the last two years. Ever since I discovered American Vintage.

serenity · 06/12/2009 11:37

Well, this year I bought a couple of tops in the January sales with M&S vouchers my MIL gave me, and I bought two pairs of jeans to replace ones that got trashed when we moved. Unless my finances drastically improve I'd imagine my shopping habits will be the same next year, so buying nothing rather than almost nothing wouldn't be a stretch.

I should say that I don't actually care that much about buying clothes so this isn't a 'poor me' post

Flightattendant · 06/12/2009 11:42

I will have to this year as no money! It will be exciting I think I am sure I can get by.

Cicatrice · 06/12/2009 21:07

I could do it. Though I would have to be able to buy tights.

I go for ages buying nothing then virtually go on a ram raid. You can tell by the haphazard nature of my wardrobe.

Ronaldinhio · 06/12/2009 21:09

yes not a problem

grey knickers shirts and t shirts by the end though

lumpsdumps · 07/12/2009 16:47

I have just made my last purchase of the year and that is now all I'm buying until 2011, will have to buy new ballet pumps in the summer but that is it.

nowwhatdoido · 07/12/2009 17:04

Me too. I just bought some new boots today, and that's it.

SerenityNowAKABleh · 07/12/2009 17:06

No. It would make me thoroughly miserable, and I couldn't be around other people. I also need to replace some work clothes.

Fimbo · 07/12/2009 17:09

Well possibly, but then again how would we all cope without the sshhhhh Bogging Boden sale

nappyaddict · 07/12/2009 23:53

lumpsdumps Ballet pumps are bad for your feet. There you go sorted ... nothing new for you until 2011

Doyouthinktheysaurus · 08/12/2009 14:35

I could, in that I have plenty of clothes but in all honesty I'd be lucky to last till the end of the January sales without buying something

MrsMattie · 08/12/2009 14:36

No. I would have to raid Primark with a fifty pound note at least once!

mrsgboring · 08/12/2009 14:45

I have gone two years with nothing new but then it's horrific because everything needs to be replaced at once. I changed size drastically (upwards ) during my no-buy period and limped along horridly. I cried about shoes a couple of times and I think I may have got a winter coat as a Christmas present.

With a toddler the knees of my jeans would only last a year, tops.
