I am 35. I have purchased some 'wet look' leggings to wear under a dress. It will be ok won't it?

this is the dress

The dress isn't as clingy in RL, looks a bit 1980's in that photo. But I am going to brave it with black wet look leggings and shoe boots / bandals (which I still need to buy).

It's all from Dotty P's, so in theory it should be ok .

Am I mad?

I really don't like wet look leggings but then I am a legging hater in all incarnations.

Personally I think opaque tights look a million times better.

I do like the shoeboot thing althought I've just googled 'bandals' and got this image.

Please tell me it was a spelling mistake in your op?!!!

magnolia74 · 02/12/2009 21:54

Mad........Maybe

Brave......YES!!

Where you going in them?

Heathcliffscathy · 02/12/2009 21:57

YOU WILL LOOK UTTERLY FABULOUS (and very 80s).

assuming you have good legs...yes?

mazzystartled · 02/12/2009 21:57

dress is nice but honestly i think the wet look leggings are a mistake
wet look leggings from dps especially so
wear with opaque tights and ankle boots or platform courts
honest

JaneiteMightBite · 02/12/2009 21:57

I would say no. The dress is statement enough in itself and with wetlook leggings would be a) overkill and b) have possible tarty potential I think, sorry. Opaque tights much better imho. However, I hate a) leggings and b) all this 80s stuff around now - so I should probably bugger off back to my dressing gown and slippers and leave you in peace.

Meglet · 02/12/2009 21:58

just out for an Xmas meal, want to keep my legs warm, but don't want to wear jeans as usual.

LOL at the bandals on google.

I meant something like these, bandals = boot / sandals

yes, legs are ok. Slim and 5 7".

Might try the dress with opaque tights too though, I did feel very daring when I tried them on.

I am possibly under the misguided illusion I am Alexa Chung / Pixie Geldof etc.

mazzystartled · 02/12/2009 22:01

christ you're not planning on wearing all that at once?

yikes

less is more on the old 80s revival stuff (which i like btw)

brightspark2 · 02/12/2009 22:01

Wet look after childbirth says to me stress incontinence! Or Olivia Newton John in Grease! Which is better - there's only one way to find out - ......

lou33 · 02/12/2009 22:02

i bought some a couple of days ago with trepidation, so only got some that cost a fiver, they look more like leather than wet iyswim

i have been pleasantly surprised by them

i wear them with a long jumper and knee high boots

i am nearly 43 btw

BunnyLebowski · 02/12/2009 22:03

Oh lord those shoes + that dress + wet look leggings to me would look like you were trying to hard and......dare I say it.....a wee bit muttony . Sorry.

The dress with black opaques and platforms would me much better imo.

Greensleeves · 02/12/2009 22:04

packet of Tenalady might have been cheaper

Meglet · 02/12/2009 22:05

I will re-consider the leggings. I do like them though .

Tights, just seem so sensible, I don't even own any.

OP posts:
BunnyLebowski · 02/12/2009 22:07

They don't have to be boring and sensible! They make your legs look long and lovely rather than cutting you off at the cankle like leggings do and making you look like you're about to do the 100m dash.

They are classier and more timeless. Leggings are a passing fashion disaster which we will ass piss our pants at laughing at in photos in years.

And I'm only 29 so you can't dismiss me as an old fuddy-duddy

Heathcliffscathy · 02/12/2009 22:07

darling DO NOT RECONSIDER THE LEGGINGS.

you are a veritable moggle with yer 5'7".

GO FOR IT!

very now, utterly covered up and THEREFORE NOT TARTY (not like she has her tits out is it?).

go go go.

and remember you are posting on mumsnet. MUMS NET.

Flame · 02/12/2009 22:10

Ooh I was ready to scream at you to take them back, but with that dress I think it will work

Meglet · 02/12/2009 22:13

My sister is going to give me a RL opinion this weekend.

If I'm feeling very brave I might stick a photo on here, but I need to investigate shoes next.

ta lou.

lou33 · 02/12/2009 22:15

i tend to buy leggings a size up from normal tho to avoid any kind of camel toe

BunnyLebowski · 02/12/2009 22:16

Or worse the dreaded moose knuckle..

Heathcliffscathy · 02/12/2009 22:20

doesn't mind under a dress. apart from uncomfortable. no one can see.

Meglet · 02/12/2009 22:26

I already checked the camel toe situation, it's fine and the dress covers me anyway.

navyeyelasH · 02/12/2009 22:32

I'm 25 and do think in theory it could look like someone spewed this seasons trends all over you.

But that dress is quite understated so I say do it with the weggings!

eshermummy · 02/12/2009 22:39

I love wet look/leather leggings. I have 3 pairs

I am same age as you, slim but not so tall. I think you will look great however I personally wear mine with more tunic style/floaty dresses/tops.
That dress is nice but it's already quite body con and could end up looking a bit tarty with wet look leggings - but maybe not. Try and see - I also have some high gloss opaque tights which are a good inbetweener.

I have to warn you though, once washed they are never quite as wet-look again - that's why I've ended up buying 3 pairs - am addicted to the initial feel but it doesn't last
