Fake Monsoon girls dresses? Can someone advise?

I got a similar dress to this on ebay, only in brown. It arrived today and I'm a little suspicious.

I can't find this dress online in Monsoon and it just doesn't seem to have the same quality. dd tried it on and it seems really small, it's fitted just under where she would have a bust and then sticks out awkwardly, almost like it should be on a 5yo. The sleeves I presume are 3/4. It does say for 9/10y however which should be fine for dd as she's very slight.

The label is also very small for Monsoon.

What do you think? Should I say anything? Send it back?

from that seller?
one feedback suggests they are fakes

I would email the seller and ask for a refund
If they are difficult you can report them for selling fake goods I think

Themasterandmargaritas · 02/12/2009 16:40

Looks like you've been had Rhubarb. That Monsoon label has been cut from something else and stitched on afterwards, also as you say, it doesn't quite work as a real Monsoon dress.

Send it back.

CremeDeMenthe · 02/12/2009 16:44

Is it from that seller? I'd be suspicious because the item isn't listed in the title as Monsoon but as M/soon.

HugeBaublesWhatDidISayRoy · 02/12/2009 17:04

looks like the label is sewn in skewiff too.

PfftTheMagicDragon · 02/12/2009 17:15

If it is from that seller I would say it's fake. The label looks all funny and it is FAR too cheap.

RhubarbLikesAnyOldFucker · 02/12/2009 17:29

Oh shit.

it says the seller accepts returns so i would simply email her saying that you want to return the dress as you don't believe it is genuine. if she's not happy with this you can report to ebay/paypal and i'm sure you'd win a dispute (btw if, for any reason she didn't send signed for you would automatically win, i believe). still a pita though.

heartofgold · 02/12/2009 17:34

i imagine s/he will want to keep buyers sweet btw so i reckon they'll accept a return without argument.

SoupDragon · 02/12/2009 17:36

Yeah, I'd say it's a fake.

LIZS · 02/12/2009 17:40

Stitching at the back collar isn't straight so seconds at very least but not genuine I'd say , sorry. Maybe they just got a load of copycat labels printed or from a genuine supplier.

RhubarbLikesAnyOldFucker · 02/12/2009 17:49

She's had good feedback from others though. But this dress definitely is wrongly sized for dd.
I've emailed Monsoon to check with them if it could be one of their seconds. I can't find anything like it on their site, perhaps I should google the actual dress and try to see where they got it from.

dd will be devastated, she got it to wear at Christmas.

Surely they should be stopped?

OP posts:
RhubarbLikesAnyOldFucker · 02/12/2009 18:27

Well I've told dd that I'll have to send it back and promised her another.

I've emailed Monsoon with a link to the dress asking if they have ever sold one like that.

I've contacted the seller, asked her where she got the dress from. I've explained that I'd like to return it and I don't want to falsely accuse her, but the dress is the wrong size and the label is crooked. I've also told her that I've emailed Monsoon.

I'm asking for a full refund, including postage costs.

If Monsoon come back and confirm it's a fake I'll report her to ebay and insist she is taken off as a seller.

Just what I don't need right now.

I had a reply from the sellers:

"You're very welcome to take it to Monsoons and check that its original, albeit from their older stock - that's why there are no tags.
We buy our clothes in bulk from suppliers who specialise in liquidating excess High Street stuff (all stores do that to make room for new season items) and there is absolutely no question about this dress being authentic.
It is unfortunate that it doesn't fit your dd. If you compare sizes between monsoon, next and m&s you'll find that there is a huge variation between them. Monsoon sizes are in tune with the more petite whereas M&S sizes are more generous and a 3-4 would normally fit a 4 year old.
If its consolation, I bought a pair of John Rocha jeans from Debenhams last year for my 7 year old and it wouldn't fit her or even her friend who is extremely skinny. I took it back to debenhams, and upon my insistence it was even sent to and independent tribunal to check if it was faulty. I was told that it was fine and I never got my money back. Its still lying in her wardrobe unworn!
Having said that once you send the dress back we will definitely check it against other dresses of the same size and if its faulty, we'll give you full refund inc P&P. However, if the size is correct, I'm afraid we won't be able to refund P&P.
When you bought this dress we incurred e bay costs, paypal costs, postage costs AND packaging/ transportation costs, which are obviously non recoverable.
We are selling £30 dresses for £6.50. Obviously we didn't get them free. You can see that the profit margin is absolutely minimal, therefore we cannot afford to refund P&P if we weren't at fault, as each one of our listing clearly states. I am sure you will understand."

So now I'm not sure what to do. It really does seem too small for her, but I'm worried in case I don't get a refund.
Aargh!

monsoon have quite a few sale outlets, oi would be suprised if they sell their stock this way (o worked for them for 10 years and never heard of this happening)
the label in the photos looks wrong, and tbh the whole dress just doen't look like something they sell.

ClaireDeLoon · 03/12/2009 11:37

I would do as she suggests and take it in to a monsoon if you have one near enough.

That stuff about Debenhams and tribunal sounds very unlikely though - surely if it's the wrong size you take it back, unworn, with the tags still attached and change it for the next size up? Why would you need a tribunal?

RhubarbLikesAnyOldFucker · 03/12/2009 11:38

I have emailed Monsoon with a link to the dress. We don't have a store nearby.

I suppose I would need proof that it is a fake wouldn't I?

OP posts:
nancy75 · 03/12/2009 11:40

oh the stuff about debenhams is crap - they would never go to that expense over a pair of kids jeans!

MollieO · 03/12/2009 11:42

No idea if it is fake or genuine but I do think that Monsoon kids stuf is very small. Ds is 4-5 in Boden and 7-8 in Monsoon. He is an average size 5 yr old. I was looking at their sale stuff last night and feeling a bit sad that it won't be long before he has grown out of Monsoon stuff completely.

Sounds to me as if they are offering you a refund for the dress but will only refund the P&P if there is a fault.

RhubarbLikesAnyOldFucker · 03/12/2009 11:54

I'll wait and see if Monsoon reply I think. If they say that it is one of theirs, then fine. But if they say it's a fake I'll threaten to send the email to ebay unless I get a full refund.

Then I'll send it to ebay anyway.

Rhubabrb, there is a monsoon in town near me. I have the pic up on the screen. Do you want me to ring them and see if anyone recpognises it as a monsoon dress?

nancy75 · 03/12/2009 12:04

i should think monsoon will get back to you, most companies take a dim view of people selling fake goods and using their name.

RhubarbLikesAnyOldFucker · 03/12/2009 12:14

differentID, could you? That would be really helpful, thank you!

OP posts:
wilbur · 03/12/2009 12:20

Call Monsoon Head Office (dh used to work there and they are v keen to get rid of anyone copying/frauding their stuff). There should be an item name or number on the label and they will be able to check it for you. Phone number is 020 3372 3000.

differentID · 03/12/2009 12:43

Just spoke to them and they don't recognize it, but they are a smallish store adn don't get all styles in there.

RhubarbLikesAnyOldFucker · 03/12/2009 13:20

No-one's answering. The more I look at the dress the more I'm convinced it's a fake, the label is even slightly frayed around the edges where they've cut it.
