How much would you spend on a bag?

Just curious- if you were buying a bag, one that you hoped to get a few years from, what is the most you'd pay?

Bodeniiites · 05/11/2009 13:04

i was guilt ridden buying a £20 Cath Kidston one from ebay

AcrossThePond · 05/11/2009 18:18

I do have one LV bag but Boden is my upper limit these days, w/dicounts. They are not very common here in the US so they're unique and fun, plus can fit sippys.

StillCounting · 05/11/2009 19:00

I think £250 is the most I could bring myself to spend although I loathe cheap-looking bags so for price and practicality I usually buy an everyday version of a good brand such as these

www.madham.co.uk/index.php?cat=195

or these

www.herve-chapelier.com/rayon.asp?idcat1=1&intitCat1=Sacs

but (as is evident!) not looking for anything particularly on trend, just classic ....so probably a bit boring

isittooearlyforgin · 05/11/2009 19:14

The other day the cat weed on my handbag. Was very sad. Feel I was not wasteful to throw it away as thought even a damn good scrubbing would not get rid of faint smell of urine accompanying me everywhere (like I don't already have that with 2 dc)

purplepeony · 05/11/2009 19:26

ooooooooooooh..a friend of a friend I know paid £3K for a Hermes bag.

I would go as far as around £125- £150, but would feel comfortable paying £75- £100. My current bag is an Ri2K nad was £99 ish and i have used it day in day out for about 2 years. I don't have lots of bags- just 3, which includes one for summer and asmaller one for dressier use.

SuzeMcG · 05/11/2009 19:44

I'd pay about £600-700, for Mulberry, Anya Hindmarch or Louis Vuitton

teameric · 05/11/2009 19:48

the most I've ever spent was £200 but I've had a lot of use out of it over the years, couldn't afford to spend that much on a bag now though

teameric · 05/11/2009 19:52

even though I really want this very very badly

twolittlekings · 05/11/2009 19:56

The most expensive bag I own is £140. It's a Radley bag and not very nig for the money.

TBH once you start looking at hundreds I think it's a waste of money and where I live you also need to look at taking out insurance incase it's nicked or you get mugged!!!

DuelingFanjo · 05/11/2009 19:58

£25 if I really really wanted it, probably more likely £5-£10

geordieminx · 05/11/2009 20:03

Com'on LTEC... What have you spied?

scottishmummy · 05/11/2009 20:06

imo,a good bag is an investment.instead of numerous bags a well made good bag will last ages and look stylish.

mulberry
anya hindmarch

pagwatch · 05/11/2009 20:09

I could spend humungus amounts if I wanted too but I won't. I usually spend an average of about £200 but I don't buy many. And my current fav is a little 1950s one bought in Oxfam.
DH knows the only bag I covet is a mulberry bayswater for my birthday.
I have been out and looked at bags with DH and he has waved chloe ones etc in front of me but when the price tag goes over a grand my working class self, who had to wait until her 10th birthday to get her first dress that was not at least 3rd hand, shouts "will you seriously fuck off" so loud that I have to walk away. I hate the gauche bling bags - they are so cheap looking for something so expensive

If I ever ever thought of spendingthat much, or perhaps when DH finally runs out of ideas for birthday surprises I would perhaps go for a hermes Kelly Bag because they are lovely and Grace Kelly was so fab. But posh has lowered the whole tone a bit....

PCPlumIsMyHomeboy · 05/11/2009 20:09

around £600.

Whatcha tryin' to justify?

aarghhelp · 05/11/2009 23:07

£50 for an Osprey messenger bag from TKMaxx on Sat like this but in black.

KristinaM · 05/11/2009 23:17

about £100 absolutely tops for something lovely

otherwise around £30-50 in TK Maxx

Shitemum · 05/11/2009 23:22

I don't expect to get a few years use from a bag. I spend as little as possible, maybe £10 or £15. Maybe that's why they only last about 8 months.....

LetThemEatCake · 05/11/2009 23:22

Truly and honestly nothing (in response to Geordie's 'what have you spied' and Plum's 'what are you trying to justify')

Bags are not my 'thing' so was curious about other women and their limits.

I do have a bayswater but was 2nd hand, £150. Don't use it loads but probably will when my nappying days are done.

Now, if we were talking dresses and shoes.....

I quite like Ted Baker bags at the moment. Not too expensive but look okay.

Morosky · 05/11/2009 23:43

They are investments in the sense that they will last for years and years. I have a few LV which are up to 10 years old and they all look brand new.

Eve4Walle · 06/11/2009 07:22

The most ever was £160 for a Valentino bag which looked rubbish after a months continuous use. I was very disappointed.

I'd never pay that much again, £50 tops.

Riven, I was planning on using this thread to point out what a cheap date I am too

I spent about a tenner on my current bag, now into its 5th or 6th year and doing very well. When it eventually dies I'd probably be willing to go up to £20 for a perfect replacement, but I'll repair it first if possible.

LaurieScaryCake · 06/11/2009 08:35

not as much as this
