I'm having a "permanent" or Brazilian blow dry tomorrow and I can't wait!

It sounds too good to be true. Silky, smooth manageable hair that looks loads healthier for about 3 months. It costs £145 which is more than I've ever spent on my hair in my life .

Just feeling excited (and a bit nervous) and wanted to tell everyone

Anyone else had it done?

Ah I see, it makes your hair thicker?

RamblingRosa · 29/10/2009 08:50

I wouldn't do it while pg Naetha. It's probably fine but just to be on the safe side. If you google it there's lots of scare stories about how it contains formaldehyde which is v toxic but the new formulations are all formaldehyde free and meant to be pretty gentle....still I wouldn't risk it while pg.

You can do it on coloured hair though.

I know, the pic in that article wasn't the greatest advert but I've seen other pics which are good. Apparently the model Giselle swears by it and I think she's got gorgeous hair (and everything else ).

I think the idea isn't to make hair poker straight (like Yuko does). It just makes it smooth and manageable and frizz free like after a good blow dry.

Apparently the more damaged and porous and frizzy your hair is, the better it works....which means it should work really well on me

My hair's not super curly, it's just wavy with a few random ringlets underneath. But it is really frizzy and prone to puffing up and looking a bit wild and bushy. Not a good look. When I blow dry it myself it seems to make it even worse.

I do feel guilty about the cost (won't tell DP ) but it's true that lots of women spend that kind of money on highlights on a regular basis....that's what I keep telling myself anyway.

Anyway, appointment at 12.15. I'll report back this afternoon!

i'm quite excited to hear about this, let us know

thelunar66 · 29/10/2009 10:38

I really fancy having this done. My hair is all frazzled from blow drying. Wonder if it keeps the root-lift in though. Mine always goes flat on top and bushes out just above my ears.

RamblingRosa · 29/10/2009 14:07

Ok. The verdict....

Just got back. She did it in super quick time (1hr 30mins). It looks amazing right now (already had 5 compliments back in the office...even one from a very dozy male colleague who I wouldn't expect to notice that sort of thing ). But then I guess it would look amazing because it's just been trimmed, blow dried and GHD-ed to within an inch of its life. The real test will be what it looks like after I next wash it.

I'll keep you posted.

Hm. It does sound interesting. I wonder if it would work on very fine hair? I'm going to the hairdressers next week; might ask about it then.

TrillianSlasher · 29/10/2009 15:15

So it's like a perm but for striaghtness instead of curlyness?

saintmaybe · 29/10/2009 16:41

I'm looking forward to updates!

onadietcokebreak · 29/10/2009 17:58

checking in for the updates.

RamblingRosa · 30/10/2009 08:07

Day 2: still looking good.

You're not allowed to wash it for 3 days and have to avoid rain at all costs. Luckily weather in London today looks fine. Wore a shower cap in shower.

So far so good. Still have no idea what to expect when I wash it though.

I'm hoping it will be silky and manageable and I won't have to style it at all (not that I'm lazy or anything ).

BTW, I've had so many compliments about my hair that I'm starting to feel a bit paranoid that everyone hated the way my hair looked before. Well, I suppose it wouldn't be unreasonable if they did since I hated it! It's like when people tell you you look great if you've lost weight and you then wonder what they thought of how you looked before....

Bleh · 30/10/2009 10:56

How did you find the salon?

RamblingRosa · 30/10/2009 11:23

It's a salon near me that I was thinking of going to for a cut anyway as it looked nice and they've got a 5* good salon guide rating. I looked them up online and saw that they offered it so I popped in for a consultation.

I went to another place I found online for a consultation but I didn't like them as much (even though they were cheaper) so I went with the first one.

I'm pleased I did. I really liked it. I'll definitely be going back even if it's just for my usual trim and blow dry rather than the Brazilian blow dry (the verdict's still out...I won't know if it's worth doing again until I see how long it lasts and what it's like once I've washed it).

Oh they gave me free shampoo and conditioner too.

And there were free Haribo sweeties. And new magazines rather than tatty out of date ones.

I liked it and I usually hate hairdressing salons.

Do post again when you've washed and let us know... Are you willing to post some before and after photos on a profile (you could always do back of the head shots, or digitally obscure your face if you're worried about privacy? )

Go on. You know you want to.

RamblingRosa · 30/10/2009 11:32

I should do shouldn't I but a) I'm v camera shy and don't fancy sticking my pics up on a public forum b) I usually managed to avoid having my pic taken when my hair was looking really bad/au naturel so there aren't many good "before" shots in existence.

I suppose I could do a before and after wash shot.

Trying to take a picture of the back of my head with my mobile will be a good distraction from the huge amount of work I'm meant to be doing this morning . Thankfully no one else is in my office this morning!

Day 2 and still looking good Managed to avoid getting it wet this morning (not allowed to let water near it for 3 days) in spite of having to get DD into car and then into supermarket in almost torrential rain.

I'm just worried I'll wash it tomorrow and it will revert back to being a bird's nest. I'm sure you're meant to leave the stuff on the hair for 10 mins (can't remember where I read that) but the hairdresser just started blow drying my hair as soon as she had applied the lotion

I suppose if it really doesn't work at all I can always go back and complain or get them to re-do it or something.

Very excited to hear about this. Am a bit .

Cicatrice · 01/11/2009 20:27

Please let us know what it is like once you have washed it.

Very very interested.

SandyChick · 01/11/2009 22:51

Have you washed it-whats the verdict? Id love to have mine done. Do you mind me asking how much you paid?

After ds i had my lovely long hair chopped into a bob which im now trying to grow out. Its down onto my shoulders but still a long way to go. I used to spend a fortune on my hair when it was long and it looked good-pre ds!!

VulpusinaWilfsuit · 01/11/2009 22:57

You still haven't washed it?

Dirty mare

gigglewitch · 01/11/2009 23:03

pmsl - also thinking straight, manageable pubes

RamblingRosa · 02/11/2009 08:52

I have washed it now! (Wasn't allowed to wash it for 3 days Vulpusina....but I probably would have left it that long anyway as you correctly identified me as a dirty mare )

The verdict is that it's lovely

It's not poker straight but I don't want it poker straight. It's just really sleek and soft. Like I imagine "good hair" feels.

I blow dried it last night because I've got a big event at work today and I want it to look nice but I literally just did it for about 5 minutes, head upside down, and it was transformed into silky locks with lots of body. Usually if I did that, I'd have a huge, wild, frizzy bird's nest that would need 30mins of serious GHD's to tame it back down.

Sandy, it cost £145. I know some places charge more like £200. It was the most I'd ever spent on my hair but now I've done it I think I might be addicted. I'm just telling myself that lots of people spend more than that getting their colour done regularly.

Anyway, I'm very happy with it. It's nice not to hate my hair for a change . The hairdresser described it to me as just like having a good hair day every day and as it starts to fade (in about 3 months) you notice yourself having more bad hair days again. Every day used to be a really bad hair day for me. I didn't have good hair days. So it makes a nice change to feel happy with my swishy barnet
