Mini skirt and leggings in your thirties?

FlamingoBingo · 28/10/2009 12:03

I'm a petite size 10. I'd like to show off my new slim legs (been running a lot and losing weight) in leggings but can I really get away with a mini skirt at my age?

Ok, I'm not in my thirties yet - got another couple of months to go, but I am a mother of four. Will I look like mutton dressed as lamb? Or does it depend on what sort of mini skirt I choose?

Please someone help me? I'm very style-challenged.

i got a black denim mini from peacocks a couple of weeks back, tenner. i'd feel too exposed wearing it with tights, even thick ones, but am happy to wear with leggings (although will admit to wearing running tights in public first time this week so apparently have no shame). it's a casual look, but if you wear long leggings/calf length boots there's no cut-off issue involved (although i also wear blue denim mini/calf length leggings/flipflops in the summer too).

frankly my legs are the only flauntable bit of anatomy i have left so i have no shame flaunting them at every opportunity

ps for evenings i would also wear mini + leggings + heeled ankle boots (no shame )

Ok, what should I wear with my mini-skirt and opaque tights then? What sort of top? Need more pics to get a feel for what I'm looking for - I've cared so little about what I wear for so long now, I have no idea what I'm doing!

Like, what should I wear with this for instance?

can't help you there, i don't wear full/rara type short skirts, straight only. with which i wear basic t-shirts from h&m/topshop etc., usually a size too big, with a contrasting longer vest underneath.

i tend to wear my biker boots with mini skirts, although i do occasionally wear my black knee high boots which have about 3 inch heels, with thick tights and my upper half covered

Worried about my muffin-top if I wear stretchy tops!

not with a mini - you do need to see there is a skirt...

i mean it should end on your hips (the top not the skirt)

Definitely. Go for it .

I'm 33 and I often wear a denim mini and leggings or opaque tights. Always with flat shoes (ballet pumps or boots) though.

I went through a phase of worrying I was too old and I looked like mutton dressed as lamb. But I got over it. My legs don't look any different to when I was 23 so why should I start wearing sensible knee length skirts?

BTW, I only wear the mini at weekends or on holidays. Not a good look for the office...not my office anyway

Have a fab time trying stuff on.

I'm small (5ft) and about a size 8/10 at the moment and find that fitted straight skirts suit me best.

Try some on with different coloured opaque tights too.

Well done on your weight loss.

You know I've just had another thought - I have ginormous boobs - will I look like a hooker?

This is starting to sound like a troll-y thread

Fine to wear but only with flat shoes or boots, tacky worn with heels IMO

Don't wear heels anyway - bad back!

I am very sad to be so excited about this, and irritated I can't get out to buy it today!

I also have big boobs as bf but as long as they're covered up - you'll look fine.

im the same age as you have 3 children and im a size 10. Plus fairly large boobs (32 F).
I wear leggings or jeggings (i hate that word) with long t shirts, vests, cardys, etc its so comfy. I do own a mini denim skirt which i wear with black leggings, uggs or black boots (flat) and a checky shirt or vest and grandad cardy.
You should go for it, you dont want to regret not making the most of your figure

id say this
with something like this
and this skirt
to be honest I would wear that long top with out a skirt and just some jeggings. Actually im wishing id bought it the other day now
