....I need something in a delicious shade of pink

Any suggestions?

LTEC - my wallet is thankful that I didn't care much for the Hermes/Liberty cotton scarves. The floral element is not my cup of tea.

LetThemEatCake · 05/10/2009 18:52

okay, I've set up my Hermes account, added my shipping details and then had to walk away and take a few deep breaths before purchasing

arguments for (in addition to those mooted by Choogirl)
a) I easily spend £15 a week on t/a coffees etc - so by ditching these I could pay for the shawl in a year
b) this is horrible, yet costs more .... is that a weak argument?

on the other hand, I was thinking of just going to Bicester and trying to get a DKNY COSY in pink but really doubt that I can face the journey at the moment ... so what do we think to this as an alternative to the DKNY? much the same I would have thought? question is, can I settle for this having seen the Hermes???????

advice pls ladies of the cloth(es)!!

OP posts:
tulpe · 05/10/2009 18:58

That's never a Marc Jacobs piece . Looks like Per Una

Not loving the DKNY cosy alternative. Does the Bicester store have them in pink? I may be heading to Bicester in the next few weeks to do some clothes Christmas shopping......

tulpe · 05/10/2009 19:01

BTW, LTEC, why did you decide against Toast dress? I was leafing through the catalogue for bedtime reading yesterday and thinking I wanted it for myself. ( And then I realised I have something very similar already, in same gorgeous shade of pink but different neckline, from Boden but.......ssshhhhh!!!!! don't tell DH )

BobtheWoodmouse · 05/10/2009 19:50

LTEC - Well, my only advice against it, is that you will not want to stop at one

Drop them an email and ask if they have a spare scarf-tying techniques card pack they can throw in. They are usually given away free with every scarf purchase when they are in stock.

If you are still wavering - have a look at 'ode to the GM shawl' in the Hermes clubhouse in the hermes section of the purseforum.com Can't link as you have to register first, it's free.

VerityBrulee · 05/10/2009 20:24

That pink cardigan is pretty much identical to the DKNY, and a lovely colour. You've been wanting one of those for ages, so would it be too practical to suggest going for the cardigan, and putting the Hermes on your christmas list?

FWIW I thibk all Marc Jacobs is utter tat, if it was in Primark you wouldn't pay a fiver for it. Ten years ago he was a real innovator, now he just churns out rubbish that fools are willing to pay a fortune for. Rant over!

fishie · 05/10/2009 20:30

i don't like the colour of the hermes, too salmon. but i did miss the original toast dress thread, so maybe you are looking for a more yellow rather than blue based pink?

LetThemEatCake · 05/10/2009 20:52

hi fishie - this was the toast dress but I decided against it because it's not breastfeeding-friendly ... this however is ....

verity - would love to put the Hermes on teh Xmas list but Bob reckons they'll sell out long before that!!!

oh what to do what to doooooooo

OP posts:
VerityBrulee · 05/10/2009 20:57

If you can afford it and it will make you happy, buy it!

You could always hide it away, then give it to your dh to present to you on Christmas morning

fishie · 05/10/2009 21:11

that pink dress is really nice but i think too floppy. lucky escape.

i love pink, esp that dusky colour which has gone out of fashion.

LetThemEatCake · 05/10/2009 21:46

Luka - sorry, I totally overlooked your question - no I don't - can you bf in them? they look lovely but possibly too vampy on my poor excuses for boobs

oooh, verity, I like your thinking!!! The thing is, I can't afford it. We've just had our 3rd dc so I'm going to be scaling back my work even more (all 3 of them are at home with me, except for 1.5 days that dd goes to nursery) ... the only way I can do it is to put it on a 0% cred card and pay it off over a year or whatever with the fashion maths I was using above ... oooh, and I've made £100 selling some of my old stuff on ebay this week, that could help ... and I've still got a pair of Kurt Geiger boots to list ... maybe, maybe it can be done ....

what about you and that coat??? any action?

Oh where is Choogirl when I need her, just a bit more persuasion!!

Bob - how many do you have????!!!!!

OP posts:
tulpe · 05/10/2009 21:59

LTEC, you need to take the approach to christmas list that I take. "Ask" DH for specific things starting in, say, September. Make sure he knows that THEY WILL SELL OUT BY END OCTOBER (caps intended.......am annunciating to DH) et voila! DH goes into panic mode as he may have to engage brain for christmas purchases and so buys item on list immediately

Works every time for me

Agree with Verity about MJ's last few seasons' offerings. Fabrics have seemed very cheap. If I was told they were high street, I wouldn't have been surprised.

VerityBrulee · 05/10/2009 22:03

LTEC, don't do it, it's only a scarf, and a vvvv expensive one at that, NOT worth it.

Buy the cardigan instead, you'll wear it much more, and won't feel guilty about it

Hmm, that bloody coat, it's wormed it's way into my head, so everything else seems miserable in comparison.

But then, I made another discovery today, here, dear god, how would you choose, each more gorgeous than the last. Note how there are no prices!

tulpe · 05/10/2009 22:07

Verity, Matches A/W sale should be online soon, apparently. Any chance your jacket will come down in price, do you think?

VerityBrulee · 05/10/2009 22:08

Wow, tulpe, my dh would never get subtelty like that.

I learned years ago to buy my own pressies, wrap them beautifully, hand them to dh on Christmas Eve, and he hands them back to me the next morning

Not very romantic, but no unusual surprises anymore!

VerityBrulee · 05/10/2009 22:10

OOOH, Matches sale, I like the sound of that!

tulpe · 05/10/2009 22:18

Nor my DH, Verity, until 7 years ago when we hit an all time Christmas gift low of........I kid you not.......Nigella Lawson mixing bowls.......because whilst passing through John Lewis cookware department one saturday afternoon, I happened to say they would make a lovely gift for someone. Sadly that "someone" was interpreted as me . Now, I love cooking but cookware is not for Christmas!!

I cannot tell you how spoilt I was the following year.......Ormonde Jayne candle, Smythson filofax, Agent Provocateur lingerie and a sparkler from Tiffany. Poor DH was so panic stricken he interpreted the list as a "must have" rather than "choose from any of the following" And I have yet to correct him on that......!!

LetThemEatCake · 05/10/2009 22:24

I've bought a couple of decent MJ things in the last year - namely this dress and this top in pink - but agree a lot of his stuff is rubbish

Tulpe - that would never work with my dh - he is a fly-by-the-seat-of-his-pants kinda guy!

OP posts:
BobtheWoodmouse · 05/10/2009 22:33

LTEC - three, one I bought myself with ebay money, another one was a valentine present and then the third for a birthday present. I usually wear one most days so I'm getting great cost per wear out of them. They were cheaper too - Hermes have two price increase every year

VerityBrulee · 06/10/2009 11:19

Tulpe, nigella mixing bowls would have been fantastic in comparison to some of dh's offerings! Sounds like you are onto a winner now though!

So, the weather here is shocking this morning, which is bringing me around to the reality that a marshmallow pink coat ,may not be the most practical option - I don't imagine you could fling it in the washing machine!

LTEC, what's the status of the Hermes this morning? More importantly, how is Leon doing, getting any sleep?

tulpe · 06/10/2009 11:22

Several pink things in the Outnet Donna Karan sale today You may want to take a look, LTEC.

MarshaBrady · 06/10/2009 11:53

This reminds me of the most beautiful scarf (well big scarf, shawl probably) that I wanted - McQueen.

I loved that thing, I hesitated. It was £550 I think. But so soft and big etc and it looked great.
Have finally been paid a chunk of outstanding dosh but now can't find it anywhere... sob.

So on one hand I probably wouldn't go so far to do the cc thing, actually Hermès will have more, you will still be able to get one later.

Get on the Matches sale or something to fill the Hermès scarf void... or do it.

LetThemEatCake · 06/10/2009 15:40

RIGHT THEN.

you ladies are my voices of reason, for which I thank you heartily. Had a good ponder and realised the following:

Bob, you're probably about 5 years younger than me but somehow Hermes seems like rather a grown up purchase for me at the mo, especially as I am at home with 3 kids and have never really managed to get the hang of scarves, despite buying several every A/W (they always end up getting charity shopped or cut up for other uses - imagine doing that with the Hermes!!!!) So ..... I have asked dh to buy me a Hermes for my 40th (a few years off yet, but not so many years that the Hermes dream seems unattainable .....)

Speaking of dreams - yes, Leon is magic!! Thank you for asking He is such good baby!! Only wakes up once a night for a feed (around 4am) and then goes straight back to sleep, no settling required, no endless pacing and jiggling - I feel fully rested and not at all frazzled - he's divine.

tulpe - LOTS of things in DKNY sale!! Am loving many of them. But Verity - how about you, if you are not going to get the Maxmara, why don't you get a plain parka like I did (North face) take off the dead animal trimming and pop this little beauty around your neck for a splash of complexion-flattering, mood-lifting colour??

OP posts:
BobtheWoodmouse · 06/10/2009 16:49

LTEC - lol, I am mid-40s. Hermes is something to look forward to definitely - mind you, the cashmere/silk shawls look good on any age, unlike the silks which can be a bit tricky. The shawls don't require fancy knotting either - they fling on any-old-how and stay put, all casual and insouciant.

Louis Vuitton's Sprouse leopard cashmere/silk stole comes in a pale pink version this a/w...

LetThemEatCake · 06/10/2009 16:59

bob, you are enabler extraordinaire!!!

how old were you when you got your first hermes? and when yo say you wear one most days - do you work now, or at you at home?

I am loving my travelwrap for that insouciant fling-on factor atm .. although I admit that I went for fail-safe charcoal .. but oh! it's so snuggly and warm. baby Leon loves it, I fear it may be snaffled from me at some stage to become his comfort blanket!! (both of my other dcs sleep with the dressing gowns that I wore when bfing them .... it makes for bulky luggage when we go o/s...)

Is the LV online???
