OMG I just nearly fell over when the shop assistant told me the price of my daughter's new boots!

Just been to buy my 7 year old daughter some winter boots (leather knee high type). We went to our normal shoe shop (StartRite or whatever they call themselves now) as she has tricky shaped feet - wide feet and high instep. Finally found a pair that fitted. Went to the till to pay and they were £74.99!! Don't think I will be telling DH the price. How can they justify this?

That is outrageous. The price of children's shoes generally annoys me but £75 for boots for a 7 year old is daylight robbery.

I always buy my DCs kickers for the autumn/winter and they are stupidly expensive too.

DD's boots, manufactured in the EU, have hiked in price from £50 to £80 from last year. Her shoes can cost more than mine!

Geox seem to have gone up a lot too - I just paid almost £50

I now always look on the box at the price, after forking out £65 for a pair of boots for an 18 month old.

This has made me feel better. Have an almost three year old who I have real difficulty finding shoes for (again - wide, hgh instep) and forked out £52 for boots for her last week

OMG OMG OMG. I cant believe anyone would pay that for children's footwear I dont spend that much on adult sizes. My rule of thumb is ask the price before they even get tried on!

I'd have told dd that wellingtons were very fashionable this season.

LynetteScavo, dd's boot were dark red knee high Noel - were so gorgeous I wanted a pair.

She has these now. If she didn't spend part of the week on a farm might have got these. But the shoe shop owner says the exchange rate has sent prices soaring.

Oh dear, I thought this would get a bit of a reaction! Yes they are EU boots Primiggi make I think. She does have school shoes and trainers I know but after being a horrible mother and insisting she have very sturdy school shoes that she really didn't like I asid that she could have some nice winter boots. For her shape of foot there really isn't much (or sometimes any) choice and I think Wouldn'tTouchThemWithYours would back me up on it. Clarks are just crap for her feet and the fitters are rubbish too. My winter boots (Next) were less than my daughters. Just ridiculous. And I do know I'm ridiculous for paying £75 for them too.

Heated, I think we must shop at the same children's shoe shop!

I shall be sticking to Startrite for DD untill the exchange rate settles down.

IKWYM. Dd#1 saw a pair of Leli Kelli sparkle boots she loved. They were £70 so i said 'no'. She was crestfallen. Then Dp saw her kiss them in the shoe shop when she thought no-one was looking. The soft git was so moved by dd's PDA for the footwear and then went and bought them for her! I looked at him , but he said that he was going to spoil his princess..... Dd#1 is now the a happy owner. My fly mols were £40 MN bargain by comparison!

petalpower - I will indeed agree that shoe shopping for that shape of foot on a child is nothing short of a nightmare.

Yep - similarly walked out of local posh-mother boutique when told that the red mary janes were £85. whats hilarious is that round here, people will pay that.

Ended up getting some clarkes shoes yestersday, and will no doubt get some fake uggs from next for £15 as i have for the last two years for when her feet need to be warm. still significantly less that £85 though!

my dd also has really difficult feet to buy shoes for. primiggi always come up trumps for us. lovely shoes and they last really well too. my dd had some boots last winter which she wore day in day out and they're still looking great...they just don't fit her

£75 is a LOT of money though...

Oh god, kids' shoes ...

my dd also has tricky feet ... wide with high instep ... and my mum had this thing about getting us properly fitted for shoes when we were growing up (charity shop clothes, expensive shoes ... foot health was v. impt)

Anyway, she wanted a pair of 'sparkly sandals' for summer ... lots of parties so I didn't mind .. they were just eccos with one sparkly flower embellishment, quite plain really ...£35!!! I made her earn 15 stars on her chart before going to buy them... she had them 7 weeks, left them in the garden o/night and one of them got chewed by foxes ... a scrap of strap left, that's all ...

note to self: never leave Louboutins in garden!!!!
