OMG I just nearly fell over when the shop assistant told me the price of my daughter's new boots!

Just been to buy my 7 year old daughter some winter boots (leather knee high type). We went to our normal shoe shop (StartRite or whatever they call themselves now) as she has tricky shaped feet - wide feet and high instep. Finally found a pair that fitted. Went to the till to pay and they were £74.99!! Don't think I will be telling DH the price. How can they justify this?

It's not the size it's the fit for the instep (ie:the height between the base of the shoe and the upper). Although DD's feet are wide they're not freaksihly so. It's just in boots that there is a real problem with the instep as it isn't adjustable in the same way that shoes with velcro/buckles/laces are. Believe me I have tried lots of different makes (as many as I can in a rural town).

Dd can't wear clarks at all - the shoe is simply too shallow.

ladies, I have found a brill place that does hand made, made to measure shoes and boots for kids (and adults) that are cheaper than those prices they are called green shoes and they do a stretching/resoling service so you can get two sizes out of one pair of boots, they are about £50.
here

you send the childs foot measurements to them with your order and they make them to measure. They are extremely hardwearing and good value for money. My daughter loves her red and black boots with gold heart on them. We are always getting compliments.
