dh is hassling me to buy a warm coat thingy

because I avoid the issue every year, preferring to live in denial about the length and freeziness of winter in this country

But facts are facts and I do spend a lot of time outdoors with the children.

So what do you think of this?

I can't help but think that it's rather expensive ... but on a daily-wear basis perhaps justifiable?

i got a great puffa style thing really soft yet cosy
not my usual taste but just above the knee and fitted
calvin klein £365 .....

oh, my dh is good when it comes to encouraging me to spend money. It must assuage his guilt about something or other ...

okay, so puffa jackets are naff - what's the alternative?? I do not, repeat DO NOT want a structured coat like thing as it will remind me of those hideous days of yore when I commuted and worked for people other than myself ...

I adore coats and have many.

French Connection have some great coats with nice detailing.

One of my favourite purchases last winter was a bright empire cut number with cropped sleeves. It is surprisingly toasty and looks dress like over tights/leggings and a shorter skirt/dress hidden underneath.

A couple caught my eye recently in Urban Outfitters but I didn't have time to try on.

Hmm not mad about puffa coat unless very slim (I am not but you may be )

I have an M&S wool coat which I like.

this one is nice tho mine is not double breasted.

Also this year have bought boden coat here As beloved of lots of people on MN tho I see it's now at the very least a 3-week wait (sigh)

Sorry meant to add, these may be too structured in a commutey-style? Tho the Boden one is quite frankly the ultimate school-run coat (phrase only to be used with tongue firmly in cheek )

Well I love it! I think it's a little more than just a "puffa coat". It has shape and style and bet it's bloody warm!

I can see where you are going with it - running around the park with DCs in warm but stylish coat. Think you would need to keep everything else worn with it very trim and fitted though, as per the picture.

Zara are quite good at this kind of jacket but cannot vouch for the quality, having never owned one.

There's a sort of mother round about where I live who wears a puffa coat (often a Moncler). Invariably she also has:

  • French manicure
  • SFAM jeans
  • high-heeled knee length boots
  • long blown dry hair
  • excessive eyebrow maintenance
  • a Mini

No. Not a good look.

I don't usually like those puffa type coats but that one is lovely if you are slim and not too busty it could look v stylish

i dont like the granny clip at the front.
Think you are right to get outdoorsy coat though - also htink of when you get " carry me" at the park and you get a nice mud stain on your arse from their feet.

I think you'd really need to try it on. I spent ages looking for a long black quilted coat last winter and tried on lots with a belt and they all made me look massive (which I am not )

I finally found one on holiday in Italy for about £50 and I wear it everyday for park trips etc.

If you really want a warm coat have you had a look at North Face When it got really cold last year I ended up borrowing dp's NF parka and it was lovely and warm. Perhaps not the most stylish of coats but for running round in the park could be ok & the wash well (i.e mud and stuff washes off them)
