because I avoid the issue every year, preferring to live in denial about the length and freeziness of winter in this country

But facts are facts and I do spend a lot of time outdoors with the children.

So what do you think of this?

I can't help but think that it's rather expensive ... but on a daily-wear basis perhaps justifiable?

yy must be wipeable / brushable. i do like a nice wool coat, doesn't need to be officy.

Wuxiapian · 14/09/2009 10:45

Ahhh.

See, I know nothing. And shop in Boden.

BobtheWoodmouse · 14/09/2009 10:46

I'm always scared I will look as though it is me that's padded, not the coat. I'm hankering after a parka type thing but fancier, a bit like this

dexter73 · 14/09/2009 10:53

Dare I say it looks a little Per Una!!

pippel · 14/09/2009 11:02

it looks a lot cheaper than it is and its not nice

sorry

salvadory · 14/09/2009 11:10

Love, love, love it!
Don't listen to anyone, down coats are not naff, don't know what you look like but your posts always make me think you have exquisite taste so I would imagine you'd look lovely in it, are you tall? If so even better.
Was in Rome last year and saw a lot of these jackets on lovely stylish Italian ladies, not an acrylic nail in sight. Think Zara may have some similar but not as nice if memory serves me right.

brimfull · 14/09/2009 11:11

bob that looks like it has a cat draped around theneck

don't like furry collars

PinkTulips · 14/09/2009 11:21

I've just bought this in grey and adore it, really warm and cosy but not formal looking.

My dp had to bully me into it too though

CHOOGIRL · 14/09/2009 11:22

Coat is lovely - but if you have T*s & A*e as I do you may look like michelin man. Think you should stay in denial and live in the cosy cardi!!

Would the North Face one go with the Duo boots?

I'm off to the gym now to try and get my a**e under control

brokenspacebar · 14/09/2009 12:38

this imho is nicer, and cheaper than the day birger one.

Monsoon have a padded/down coat that looks lovely - I am tempted, but these coats never seem to have hoods....

NoahAmin · 14/09/2009 12:39

it is a bit peruna

pcworld · 14/09/2009 12:46

ok what about this?

www.monsoon.co.uk/invt/57002624&bklist=icat,5,shop,women,newarrwoman,newomenjackets#

I, too, am searching for the perfect cosy, warm, suitable-for-school-run-plus-park etc, coat!

OllieWollieWoo · 14/09/2009 12:51

Zara ones seem quite good quality imo - and lots this year have the belts. They seem to do a range of colours too - cream, black, mocha, dark brown and pale grey. Lotsa stylish type Mums seem to wear them in Europe! I've got a black one cos was fed up of freezing to death in the park/playground and love it - despite vowing a few years back never to wear one!

pcworld · 14/09/2009 12:53

Ollie, I looked at a Zara one the other week and it was lovely - I just wish I had bought it at the time as they do not sell online, boo!! Will have to muster up the courage for a real-life shopping trip soon, I think.

I love down/puffa coats! You will be laughing out loud come January, when people are poncing about in wool . I like it muchly.

Romanarama · 14/09/2009 14:06

I think that puffa is beautiful. The other place to look is Maxmara, which has loads of them. Everyone wears puffas in Italy: Moncler and Maxmara prob the fave brands for the cash rich.

In fact why don't you just go to Via Condotti in Rome and browse the rails?

BobtheWoodmouse · 14/09/2009 14:44

ggirl

I see what you mean - tis removable though

Clary · 15/09/2009 00:31

see, IMO some of these down coats look OK (just about) on the skinny beautiful model - but I still think even the woman in the first coat would look nicer in something else.

That monsoon one does nothing for the wearer. Why does a coat have to be shapeless?

Noah, I believe you have the Boden one too, admit it

LetThemEatCake · 15/09/2009 09:17

BonsoirAnna:

There's a sort of mother round about where I live who wears a puffa coat (often a Moncler). Invariably she also has:

  • French manicure
OP posts:
LetThemEatCake · 15/09/2009 09:21

anyway, it's all a moot point now as the coat has sold out in all but the largest and smallest sizes (I hold you lot responsible) AND to top it all off my White Co cardicoat arrived and was not the item of beauty and desirability (on me, at least) that I was expecting.

So I think I may put practicality first and buy a North Face one. Nothing would make my husband happier, he remembers me as a Himalayan-hiking, mountain-climbing, kayaking kinda girl, not the pretentious latte-sipping, champagne-quaffing swanning-around-the-park mother I have clearly become

salvadory - thank you!! what a lovely thing to say. And ggirl, thank you for your support too. I particularly liked the foot stamping

LTEC, I have been on the lookout for a stylish down coat, this Maxmara one is gorgeous in RL, the fabric is a soft as silk, the coat if so light but toasty warm, I would have bought it in a flash, but the colour does nothing for me. I'd say you'd be able to wear it though, and it also comes in teal (I can't wear that either).

The other contender I found is from Gerard Darel, double breasted pea coat style, but down filled so much warmer. Again the fabic is really silky and it's very lightweight. But it only comes in brown and black which I'm trying to avoid.

As others have said, Zara has lots of coats like this, but the fabic is not as nice, feels more 'nylon' IYKWIM, wand they are much bulkier. But if it's only for the park with the dc then they're fine.

One to avoid - Marc Jacobs tried it on and it is hideous, wouldn't pay a tenner for it in Primark, urgh!

monkeysmama · 15/09/2009 10:30

Glad you think that about the White Co coat - I'm really disappointed too & sent mine back yesterday. I am having little shopping joy at the moment . Dp had to drive me to the post office yesterday because I had so many boxes to return. Only my Vertbaudet order for dd has lived up to expectations.

Thanks Rubyruby, I like this one in chocolate.

Love the red but don't like the style as much as the other one.

Why can't the make the first style in the second colour? Argh

Why am I so fussy?
