It's amazing how many people wear ^really^ bad jeans isn't it??

Not just the elasticated M&S ones with black boots and a fleece but skinny jeans are not a good look on anyone with a bit of an arse (ie 90% of the British population). Similalry, all those low pockets and paraphernalia on arse on some jeans make people look even shorter and fatter than they invariably already are.

As you were.

Oh can I add to my list:
Not skinny and not wide leg
Not hipsters
No 'funny' pockets
No 'gimmicks' of any kind....

oneopinionatedmother · 12/09/2009 12:26

can you still get standard Levi's? i hate to say it, but the fit is good, solid and reliable.

though bloody expensive.

my last pair were £4 from the YMCA.

emoticon of bargain-grabbing smugness<

moondog - you don't happen to work in the cafe of that name in Reading do you? just a thought.

Blackduck · 12/09/2009 12:30

Don't like Levi's - never fit me properly....

traceybath · 12/09/2009 12:31

I agree with OP.

Too short jeans are my particular bugbear - just so unflattering.

cocolepew · 12/09/2009 12:35

these are very flattering, I wear a 14 and they are just right at the waist, not too high but not too low. The only think is Asda changed the lengths and the regular is a bit long now (I'm 5' 5").

LuluMaman · 12/09/2009 12:37

have been recently converted to wide leg and wide leg flared jeans and trousers as opposed to boot cut, and much much more flattering for short and large of arse.

HelenaBonhamCarter · 12/09/2009 12:44

The best jeans I ever had were black cotton flares made by cavaricci (US brand) they came from the charity shop and i pulled so many blokes wearing those.

Literally would get asked out in the street a few times a week.
It was weird. I think the leather jacket and motorcycle helmet helped actually...

NoahAmin · 12/09/2009 12:46

AMericans
bad bad jeans

NoahAmin · 12/09/2009 12:49

agree - jeans on an out of proprtionally big arse not good.

I am ogign to sound a ponce here but i think the colour of jeans if pretty important. You need to get a shade of blue that suits you ( yes even though its not near your face) then all your other clothes tone.

doNT like black jeans tbh.

Guitargirl · 12/09/2009 13:00

I had a pair of Levis I was in love with and nearly cried when they finally gave up the ghost. Where can you get them from these days anyway?

NoahAmin · 12/09/2009 13:01

..er a LEvis store?

Guitargirl · 12/09/2009 13:38

Just been on the Levis store locator, our nearest stockist is Selfridges. God, every time I go in there I end up spending eye-watering amounts in the food hall. Am going to have to wait till pay day. Or just leg it past the deli counters.

nancy75 · 12/09/2009 15:14

where do you live guitatgirl? levis have stores in most big towns

hippomother · 12/09/2009 15:19

I wear really bad jeans but that's because I am very overweight and the only ones I can get are badly fitting and unflattering.

Wuxiapian · 12/09/2009 15:20

I wish I had a lovely, plump ass to fill my jeans

Guitargirl · 12/09/2009 15:20

Am in London, they're prob everywhere, am just wandering around with my eyes closed .

BonsoirAnna · 12/09/2009 15:22

Completely agree that skinny jeans plus ballet flats is a look for the slim and willowy only. If you want to wear slim cut jeans and your bottom and thighs are not model-slim, you need to wear heavier footwear to balance your silhouette. Biker-style boots (albeit a slightly refined version) are good for this. Biker boots are also awful on the very skinny.

nancy75 · 12/09/2009 15:24

there is a big levi store on regent street and another one on carnaby street, as well as a vintage store called cinch on great marlborough street (take your credit card for that one, it cost ££££!)
also stores at brent x, kingston and bluewater.

Guitargirl · 12/09/2009 15:32

Nancy - thanks, will check out the regent st and carnaby st shops next time am down that way. Can't beat a pair of levis for fit and comfort. Have oasis and gap jeans at the moment, both of which fit fine around the waist but hang off the bum/thighs. Attractive.

Ceolas · 12/09/2009 15:48

I was just about to buy a new pair of jeans but have been thinking more and more that I just don't suit them.

Short legged, large hips and bottom. What am I to wear???

HelenaBonhamCarter · 12/09/2009 15:57

i just bought two pairs of levis fom an online shop...jeans online I think, v imaginative there

I'm not sure if tis affiliated to levis as its all they sell

I saw some 609s on a mum at school, stalked her through the playground till I saw the number and went home and ordered some, which will prob turn up and not fit.

Thoughtful of levis to put number on bum, innit.

cyteen · 12/09/2009 16:02

Shopping for jeans is my bugbear of all time. I hate it. I am a relatively normal shape (5'4", size 12, go in and out at the usual places) and yet every pair of jeans I ever try either fits at waist and arse, yet leaves a yard of trailing denim on the leg, OR would be the right length leg if I could just pull them up over my thighs Either way, they ALL ride down about 10 inches as soon as I even sway forward from the waist. It drives me fucking batshit.

My best friend is a willowy tall person who owns about a thousand different pairs of jeans, all of which she looks stunning in

misdee · 12/09/2009 16:03

i had perfect jeans.

then lost weight and now they are all saggy-arsed.

am hunting for cheap jeans to make do with, as i have another 3 dresses sizes to go through lol.

TheDMshouldbeRivened · 12/09/2009 16:25

They are my sisters. I couldn't afford new jeans tillt his week (picked up some in M&S for 12 quid that are actually long enough. Bet half the city was having a good old judge at baggy me

oneopinionatedmother · 12/09/2009 17:49

@ceolas - if you can still find bootcut jeans with large pockets, that are the right length, go for it.

otherwise how about maxi-style dress or skirt? they make you look taller,

or....
