My ds starts school next wk and it seems to be that all the parents I have seen in the last few years look immaculate, fashionable and trendy, almost like they have stepped from the boden catalouge. Will my jeans and jumper surfice?

Really, you should just wear what you like and be done with it. But if you're looking for some tips on what to avoid, look at martinimummy.blogspot.com/

CybilLiberty · 31/08/2009 10:42

Well I disagree with no 3 on your blog immediately. I have a leopard trench coat and I look fabulous in in.

OurLadyOfPerpetualSupper · 31/08/2009 11:01

Cybil, is it the trench from Karen Millen?
I know two people who wear that and it does look gorgeous, although it would look awful on me as I don't have that natural tousled look which looks great with animal prints - I'm guessing you do.

OurLadyOfPerpetualSupper · 31/08/2009 11:04

Forgot to say, I did agree with most of that blog, though - but I'm not popular enough to look down my nose at what others are wearing - I don't have the back-up of a gang!

NoahFence · 31/08/2009 11:36

that blog post should be re named " the bleeding obvious"

NoahFence · 31/08/2009 11:37

I like leopard too

tulpe · 31/08/2009 11:40

IME, tis the ones wearing their DHs sweatshirts who are most judgey. Sneering at anyone who dares to make an effort and asking very loudly if you are "going somewhere nice today, then?" whilst stood in bitch-fest huddle with the rest of their coven.

BTW, Martinimummy, am also disagreeing with your leopard print point. I have an LV Stephen Sprouse scarf which (altho strictly speaking not actual leopard print if you look closely) is supremely stylish and should absolutely not be worn by 15 year olds

asmc · 31/08/2009 11:49

MamaGoblin can i just say its you that sounds like a bitch you say yourself you spend ages laughing at a woman for what she wears to a toddlers group you should fit in really well with the other bitches you claim to despise

MamaGoblin · 31/08/2009 12:20

asmc, I just realised what I'd written and was suitably about it - but no, I have not 'spent ages' laughing at the woman. More like an internal smile. I agree that I'm also guilty of a little judgery, but no, I don't laugh at other women (am in no position to do so!) and no, I'm not a bitch, thank you very much.

deaddei · 31/08/2009 12:22

I do not do the school run anymore- it makes such a difference to your afternoon!

Satsuma1 · 31/08/2009 12:30

What's all the fuss about Boden or am I missing something?

Those of you who wear nice dresses and smart-casual things in the morning, would you wear this all day for things like housework too?

NoahFence · 31/08/2009 14:28

i add a pinny

you lot need to get a job then these things wil seem irrlevant

CybilLiberty · 31/08/2009 14:43

I got told I looked like I was going to a wedding once when I picked up ds.

NoahFence · 31/08/2009 14:53

was it the peplum on your jacket?

CybilLiberty · 31/08/2009 14:58

Perish the thought. I was wearing raspberry leather wooden platform sandals. I wonder if that had anything to do with it?

NoahFence · 31/08/2009 14:58

lordy

UnquietDad · 31/08/2009 16:54

I for one am looking forward to the autumn if all the school-run mums are going to be wearing these

Eve4Walle · 31/08/2009 17:32

There are always a few mums at the school gate who make looking stylish and chic effortless. These are the ones which make me uncomfortable because they really do have some innate sense of style which can make a pair of tesco jeans and a new look top seem aspirational.

I am quite lucky - I only do the school run once a week as my DD gets the bus (we live in a tiny village and the county council pay for a mini-bus to take the village children to school). I am happy about this as I do usually end up feeling inadequate in some way, in relation to what I wear.

deaddei · 31/08/2009 17:48

What I will miss this year by not taking/collecting ds is the woman who regularly has "little bits done"- ie Botox, fillers.
She just looks a bit...strange....and rigid...but it is fascinating to look ather.

deaddei · 31/08/2009 17:49

should read "at her."

louii · 31/08/2009 18:47

I can never understand these threads, why would anyone care what other mums wear? Just drop your child to school and go about your day, who cares.

Also have never got the Boden obsession on Mumsnet, have had a look to see what I am missing and frankly not much.

One of the most overpriced clothing catalogues and pretty untrendy with it.
