Is your name on this thread?

Time for a trim then.

I did it slightly differently this time as I didn't want the fringe any shorter, I put in 2 highish bunches at the back of my head and trimmed them.

So come on, sign back in!

That last paragraph resulted in my rather fetching Cadfael cut. Be warned!!

JackBauer · 02/08/2009 21:44

substitute cadfael or mad monk for mullet....

Thanks FB Am not really strong just have very lovely friends

I prefer my new hair when I put it up.

FlamingoBingo · 03/08/2009 11:21

I cut my own hair! And DD1's and DD2's!

Mine looks ok-ish, but is verging on a mullett!!! What am I doing wrong?

I put it in a high ponytail in the middle, about an inch from where my hair meets my forehead. Then I cut it, and feathered it, but the layers look very distinct and I'm not sure it's meant to look like that!

Any thoughts?

It's not terrible, btw - I'm perfectly happy with it, and it's no worse than some of the professional hair cuts I've had!

The children's looks great

FlamingoBingo · 03/08/2009 11:22

Forgot to add, I did then put the bottom half of my hair into it's own ponytail and snipped that bit, because the back/bottom bits just looked too long still. It has improved it a bit but not completely.

I wonder if I haven't feathered it enough?

giraffesCantCatchSwineFlu · 03/08/2009 12:07

I didnt feather mine at all the first time. I also didnt put it as close to the front of my head the first time - perhaps thats the key?

gingertoo · 03/08/2009 12:37

I did mine again last week and it looks gorgeous (or so my friends keep telling me)

I've got long, very curly hair. I did the ponytail and snip bit but didn't so the hacking, sorry feathering bit - I wanted to see what it was like before I chopped anymore off - and I've ended up with lovely layered curls...

So thanks to the MN hairdo I'll never be going to hairdressers again

JackBauer · 03/08/2009 14:36

Hooray! More converts!

The mullet thing can happen if you have long hair and cut the ponytail too short I think, so the long layers that go over the head are too long and the front bits too shrot.
You can cut teh back a bit shorter to fix it if you want....

The beauty of it is you can stop at each stage, take out the ponytail and check it, then redo it a bit later.
I did the back of mine a good few hours after the front, adn then retrimmed it the next day to DH's horror

can i join too - i didnt post the last time but followed the instructions and had a better haircut than i've had in a while! dh said "that looks better than when the hairdresser did it!"

had to chop some of the length off though - the layers were good but it was still too long!

so going to straighten it on friday (only wash my mad dry, curly hair once a week!) then i'll do the haircutting thing!

will let you know how it goes!

FiveGoMadInDorset · 03/08/2009 19:16

Done it - and its not bad.

Can I get DH to cut the back off as it is too long for my liking?

FiveGoMadInDorset · 03/08/2009 19:41

OK DH has cut off quite a lot and it feels so much better and saved having to make small talk

Umlellala · 03/08/2009 19:44

I no longer have a 'short MN' either. I actually went to the hairdresser and got a proper short short hairstyle .

Trying to convince my sisters to do it now though!

JackBauer · 03/08/2009 19:45

Welcoem to the dark side canella...
5go mad, you can get him to shave it off if it makes you happy

OP posts:
kaffywaffy · 03/08/2009 20:19

Umlellala - I am curious... 'short MN'? Is there a way to do a short haircut yourself? I am sick of paying loads for a rubbish cut - wish I had left it long and found this thread...

FlamingoBingo · 03/08/2009 20:23

JackBauer - that's what happened, I think - my hair was very long.

Giraffe - are you saying that it's better if you do have the pony tail closer to the front of your head? I'm wondering if the crown is better for long hair?

Umlellala · 03/08/2009 20:53

well, I have done mine for years (bit like posh's hair - long bobbed layers at front and short at back) - and I tried to do the MN technique just for the front (ponytail at front)... looked ok y'know but coupla weeks ago decided I really needed a 'proper' haircut, and must say it looks fab!

The technique would work for a bob I think.

SammyK · 03/08/2009 20:59

Was just thinking the other day that I needed a trim and was wondering whether to do a mn cut again or {gulp} hand over cash to hairdresser.

thekidscoach · 03/08/2009 21:17

I cut my five year old hair last night and it looks fab - thankfully it is thick and slightly wavy and I believe long is in at schools at the mo.

FiveGoMadInDorset · 03/08/2009 22:19

AAAGGGHHH

It has dried, but at least my hair grows quickly.

HecatesTwopenceworth · 03/08/2009 22:21

Ooer is it? ok.

Must say, I love this style. My sister does finish it off for me with a couple of extra layers. It's really nice.

FiveGoMadInDorset · 03/08/2009 22:24

No, so DH has trimmed it to a very short bob with a few dodgy layers, and a baseball cap will be part of every outfit

DitaVonCheese · 03/08/2009 23:28

Ha ha ha! Afraid that I went to a proper hairdresser this time as SIL's wedding was coming up so thought I should try to look nice. Been meaning to post an update though - mine was quite hilariously bad for quite a long time, but I was so glad I did it because I'd been in a hair rut for aaaages and it taught me to take risks again (always a valuable lesson)

FrameyMcFrame · 04/08/2009 00:03

just marking my place her as I will be trying it tommorrow, can't afford hairdressers at the mo

MrsMerryHenry · 04/08/2009 00:28

Will it work on an afro? Anyone?

ROFL. As if.

Mamazon · 04/08/2009 00:38

ooh how strange.
I was saying today that i was going to have another trim but cut it a lot shorter. went and got some nbew scissors and will be doing it tomorrow evening.

will let you know how i get on
