UGG Boots- can someone tell me about them please?

sleepysox · 29/07/2009 11:38

I'm 30 weeks pg and my feet have swelled to the size of giant lumps of meat. I'm OK for the summer, as I can wear flip flops, but when the autumn comes I'll be stuffed. None of my winter shoes/ boots fits me. I was recommended Ugg boots. They look quite cute and cosy and I like the different colours.

I was wondering- what's the fit like?

Are they trendy any more? I don't really want to be very fashionable, I go for stuff that isn't going to look out of date if I use it for a few years.

Are they worth the money?

Do they last? I don't mind paying the money if they'll last for a few years.

Has anyone tried the short ones? I don't wear skinny jeans or narrow trousers, so the higher ones would need to go underneath my jeans which would look dumb, so I need the ankle boot size ones.

Any input gratefully received.

I have the sheepskin Emu's which fit very similar to UGGS I have had in the past. I have barely worn mine but they are very snug, the sheepskin is thick and they fit tightly round my legs (which are not huge I am a size 10)

I would say they aren't 'trandy' due to all the fake copies out there now that look awful all collapsed over.

Saying that mine are calf length not tried ankle ones but I don't think I would want to wear mine with swollen feet.

I wouldn't but a real pair of uggs if your feet are going to change shape. Just get a cheap pair to keep you going for a few months.

cocolepew · 29/07/2009 12:07

River Island do good copies for about £25. I agree with Dexter.

dexter73 · 29/07/2009 12:10

Thank you cocolepew!

moondog · 29/07/2009 12:21

God, don't wear them. They are minging and always go wonky around the back of the heel so it looks like you have a foot deformity.

cocolepew · 29/07/2009 12:22

I was in NYC a few weeks ago and saw some lovely uffs. They had a thick sole and a zip up the back, they looked more 'solid' than the other type.

cocolepew · 29/07/2009 12:23

Uffs?!?

shavenhaven · 29/07/2009 12:29

i have two pairs of the river island ones and they are great.

much looser around the ankle than normal uggs.

suwoo · 29/07/2009 12:35

Moondog, its only the fakes that go funny round the foot as modelled by many a teenage girl.

I have 4 pairs of the proper Ugg Australia boots and non of them have gone floppy.

In answer to your questions sleepysox, I would worry that you might not be able to get them on during late pg. I am 38 weeks and haven't been able to wear mine for a good 6 weeks or so. It is too difficult to bend down to pull them on and also my feet have swollen too much to fit them.

Oh well, after my c section tomorrow I'll be fine with them again

Good luck.

moondog · 29/07/2009 12:37

People still look as if they have club feet though. Not an attractive look.

suwoo · 29/07/2009 12:41

I can assure you that I look like nothing of the sort Monndog. I am oh so chavvy glamorous in mine.

moondog · 29/07/2009 12:47

I'll take your word for it.

TheBolter · 29/07/2009 12:54

Moondog.

I must say though I really like my Uggs, I've got a pair of those reinforced outdoor sole ones and they are so comfy. I'd like some cardi uggs this winter!

sleepysox · 29/07/2009 18:22

Thanks for all your replies. I appreciate your help.

I think I might take a look at some cheaper versions of Uggs, because as lots of you say, my feet will probably not stay this size- at least I hope not!!!

I am definitely considering the real thing for after I've popped!

Suwoo- Good luck with your C section tomorrow. It must be fab to know that tomorrow you;ll be seeing your darling little baby for the 1st time.

Finally- can anyone tell me if you can wear Uggs/ Ugg copies in the rain, or are they Ok if I use some sort of protectant 1st?

Thanks again, I knew I could get the low down here, you're all so knowledgeable and helpful

Mine go soggy in rain. Not sure if you can use a protectant (would love to know what too!)

thebolter I am lusting after cardi uggs too. Did not like them one bit til saw a girl in M&S wearing orange ones, and surprisingly, they looked really good.

I have the real UGG australia normal tall chesnut ones and have had them for 2 years now (still look like new), and wear ASDA version of the same as slippers in the house (handy when I spend alot of time traipsing out to recycling, up to swings, out to front garden for pruning etc.)

It's so strange to be talking about UGGs already! There should be lots more summer lefr surely?!!

suwoo · 29/07/2009 20:10

I've got the grey cardi ones, I didn't wear them much last year. I live in my pewter ones normally, but they are a bit knackered now. This winter will be their third, think I need to save up.

glitterstar88 · 30/07/2009 11:10

You can get Ugg care kits that come with water and stain repellant, and cleaning stuff.
I haven't tried it, might get some before wearing the uggs i just got. I got mine in the asos sale, tall sand uggs were £180 reduced to £108.
They have the short ones for £105 at the moment down from £150. (or £85 if you want them in aqua or tomato)

lisad123 · 30/07/2009 11:14

I love my uggs, they are so warm and comfy. I would agree fake ones do start slipping off the back, so never buy fake ones.

good luck

NBelle · 30/07/2009 11:21

I have the cardi ones and wore them all last winter and they still look as good as new. Maybe these would be better for expanding feet since they might have a little more give in them.
I don't care what people say about them I love mine and they are super comfy
PS. I have a cousin who has arthritis in her feet and she swears by her Ugg boots as being the most comfortable shoes for her.

willali · 30/07/2009 12:39

I would recommend Celtic sheepskin boots - they are exactly the same but just not air freighted all the way round the world - they are made in Cornwall...last for ever and thr kids ones are gorgeous too!

And No I don't work for them!

paisleyleaf · 30/07/2009 12:44

I think the celtic sheepskin ones are machine washable too

SueW · 30/07/2009 13:04

If your Celtic ones wear out at all, you can send them back for repair (at a cost obv, but they will replace worn panels, etc)

sleepysox · 30/07/2009 18:14

The Celtic ones look gorgeous

I have found some care kits on evilbay- thanks Glitterstar88

I've seen some real Uggs in Oz and they work out quite cheap and they come in ultra short-so I'd be able to get them on and off- decisions, decisions.
