Has there been a thread yet on what you're wearing to work in the heat?

I have such trouble when it gets hot. Have been looking for dresses but find the shops are full of sleeveless linen numbers which are not my thing - I always look like a bag lady in anything linen.

So......inspire me. What are you wearing to work today?

lol Pollycazalet - no I do not work at Butlins you cheeky so and so

Actually (she days I trifle defensively) I got compliments about my tailored shorts and blazer combo. However DP said I looked like Jimmie Krankie before I left for work (cheers, mate) and one of my colleague said I had a touch of the Don Johnson about me (blazer sleeves were rolled up). But whaddotheyknow!

GetOrfMoiLand · 30/06/2009 07:40

Honestly why can't I type - I meant she says a trifle defensively - not the nonsense typed above

janeite · 01/07/2009 16:31

Well today was stifling and I have resurrected this thread as I need serious support here! Today I wore tailored black knee length city shorts (no tights!) and a loose cotton blouse and was beyond melting even so. What the heck can I wear tomorrow?

janeite · 01/07/2009 20:00

Pretty please?

Podrick · 01/07/2009 20:11

I think tights are not required with knee length skirts.

Imo it's not a "professional" look to wear sheer tights with skirts, it's a dated and frumpy look.

I think a summer dress with good accessories is the way to go. DEFINITELY NO TIGHTS.

I also have some good wide leg navy trousers in a linen/cotton mix from Fat Face - i wear these with a smart camisole vest top and a linen mix cropped tie up cardigan in red so as not to reveal too much flesh.

janeite · 01/07/2009 20:14

Except my legs look much better with sheer tights!

I am a senior member of staff and whilst I don't want to go down the suit in all weathers route, I do need to look quite business-like. It doesn't help that I don't suit shirts or button-up blouses.

Soooooo much easier for men!

Podrick · 01/07/2009 20:20

How about fake tan for the legs instead of tights?

Plain colour dress instead of pattern?

I think wearing well chosen (not expensive) jewellery and accessories and being well groomed makes you look professional.

wrinklytum · 01/07/2009 20:23

I am wearing my very fetching NHS tunic and trousers combo in royal blue (Top) and navy (trousers).Accessorised with flat black "sensible" shoes, fob watch, multitudinous pens, small clip on tube of alcohol handrub, and a funky little pen torch for doing peoples neurological observations. lol.

(Wishes had Important Job that required stunning wardrobe)

EachPeachPearMum · 01/07/2009 20:37

Janeite- Gap, bullring- have ankle length work trousers in the sale!
AND they have some Black cotton trousers which look like linen, but aren't IYSWIM in the sale too, and navy I think... was there today and thought of you...

janeite · 01/07/2009 20:40

Really EachPeach? I must have missed them last time I looked. Will try and pop in at the weekend. Thanks!

Wrinklytum - job not really important and wardrobe certainly not stunning! I am sure that a funky little pen torch is the ultimate accessory for any occasion though!

Podrick - any dress links?

Absolutely 'no' to fake tan though. Sorry but I can't stand the stuff.

EachPeachPearMum · 01/07/2009 20:46

What do you think of this dress from M&S? (skirt shape seems very You...

Trousers were half way down, rHand side, near tills...

differentID · 01/07/2009 20:50

I'm wearing what I wear every day. Lovely navy cotton twill trousers and a navy polyester short sleeved top with touches of white. Shoes are black and closed toe and heel.

Monkeyandbooba · 01/07/2009 20:54

Are smart flipflops yay or nay?

Podrick · 01/07/2009 21:17

yay unless people are going to tread on your toes

Podrick · 01/07/2009 21:18

Peach - nice dress

janeite · 01/07/2009 21:24

Lovely dress Each Peach and deffo very me! I wouldn't do sleeveless for work though.

Podrick · 01/07/2009 21:36

jigsaw dress

white company

white company again and more white company

Do any of these appeal?

Maveta · 01/07/2009 21:37

my work is wear whatever the hell you feel like so I wear shorts or cropped pants and vest tops or loose baggy t-shirts. And flip flops. Thank God I don´t have to do the ´smart casual´thing because it would kill me.

janeite · 01/07/2009 21:41

Sorry Podrick. The last one looks like a beach dress. The shirt dress is quite nice but no good at all in white. I don't like the jersey dresses, as I feel they would be very clingy.

EachPeachPearMum · 01/07/2009 21:50

They are teeny tiny capped sleeves (I think...)

I am liking this too... for me though, not you, and prob not for work...

Podrick · 01/07/2009 21:50

The shirt dress comes in black as well
I have a White Co jersey dress in black from last year which is suprisingly flattering on - mine looks best when it has waist/empire line definition with a belt or mini cardigan

Someone in my office has this in magenta over white linen wide leg trousers with statement jewellery and it looks fab on her although I think you might be too petite for that look?

janeite · 02/07/2009 16:27

Yes I think you are right about the sleeves but still a bit too revealing. White not good either, as I tend to be covered in purple biro or black board pen by the end of the day! (Yearns to be elegant and polished).

The blue dress is lovely - will you get it taken up a bit or does it come in different lengths?

Podrick the linen shirt is lovely (and is in one of the few colours I wear!) but things like that tend to both swamp me length-wise and not suit the nork-issues!

janeite · 05/07/2009 16:22

Update - saw the white M&S dress today and it was lovely but not really suitable for work: more for a wedding I think as it's a lovely sheeny sort of fabric.

Looked in Gap for ankle-fit trousers and couldn't find any but I found a very flattering pair of slim-legged black trousers in the sale in Linea. I suspect they are actually supposed to be seven-eigth or 3 quarter length on normal-sized people but they are perfect as full length on me.

I also bought a white skirt with cowboys on!

EachPeachPearMum · 06/07/2009 21:06

that sounds like you!
mmmm... now you need a wedding to go to, so you can get the M&S dress!

Of course we're all back to normal clothes this week aren't we...

janeite · 07/07/2009 17:02

I wore it to work today and everybody commented that it was VERY me!

Have you seen 'your' blue dress irl yet? It's nice but the blue seems brighter than it did on the website and I suspect it may be rather long.
