Girls are easy to dress (dd sorted..) BUT I struggle with boys/ds..

I like the idea of a suit but not sure if I want it more casual. By that I mean smart long shorts...I also like the idea of sandals (like birkenstocks but no idea if comfy for kids and for boys..?) BUT thats the style im after..

Dh not so ken on sandals, think they are a bit poncy . Thats only coz he chooses to let his trotters sweat in trainers and shoes...dh is not a flip flop/sandals man...

So come on..help me...seen a few things in next & m&s but I would like something that bit more wow iykwim...

TIA X

Monsoon, Vertbaudet and La Redoute are good for this sort of thing - I'll see what I can find...

JackieNo · 15/06/2009 20:50

Something like this?
Or this?
A suit?

nickschick · 15/06/2009 20:51

my ds have been to several weddings as toddlers and have always worn beige coloured linen shorts with a smart short sleeved shirt white ankle socks and navy blue/brown clarks type shoe sandals.

very smart imo

PlumBumMum · 15/06/2009 20:53

I got my ds a lovely wee linen type suit out of Next, beige & a white short sleeve shirt, no tie, £25 for a wedding last year, will have a wee look to see if they have anymore similar this year

dizzydixies · 15/06/2009 20:54

next have some nice wedding outfits in store

JackieNo · 15/06/2009 20:56

More beige trousers/outfit

Cute stripy shorts

PlumBumMum · 15/06/2009 20:56

this is it, cute but casual

JackieNo · 15/06/2009 20:58

More shorts

shhhh · 15/06/2009 20:58

Yeah, thats what im after nickschick BUT think I prefer minus the socks..

JackieNo, spot on... Love the suit as smart but casual...also love the 1st outfit..well the shorts anyway. Not keen on grandad style colars..

Right, so a suit or shorts..hmm..the suit is lovely esp in white BUT think he will be more comfy in shorts..?

Also, anyone bought birkenstocks for the lo's..? I have never worn adult ones and never thought of them for the dk's but esp the girls ones, look so cute. Are they comfy.?

look on ebay for little linen suits - like this. Lovely with some brown sandals like these

missblythe · 15/06/2009 21:02

I love the idea of Birks, but think they might be too hard-these are cute though:

This is what my DS is wearing to a wedding next week. He is always dressed a bit edgy ok so-- i'm a twat and I wouldn't like for him to wear anything that isn't him, sooo we have gone for the items linked below, which are not adgy, but still cool IMO.

No Added Sugar Bovver Shirt

Next longline linen shorts in brown

Brown footbed sandals

Disclaimer..I don't normally set foot in Next and these are the first items DS has had from there (I think). The shirt helps pull it all together and he looks smart, but still 'cool as'. for being a twat.

shhhh · 15/06/2009 21:14

missb, lovely outfits but not liking grandad style shirts...Those are the birkenstocks I saw btw, also seen them minis the back strap but not sure if suitable for a 2&4 yr old..? Think may be better with strap as shown.?

off to check jojo now cfc.

Forgive my typos and post that doesn't make much sense

talkingbook · 15/06/2009 21:42

Aster boys sandals are good.Smart and well made.

shhhh · 15/06/2009 21:57

makes sense suwoo ! looked at those sandals..quite interested in them.

BTW,that outfit is lovely and similar to what im after...

OP posts:
suwoo · 15/06/2009 22:14

That is what I deduced from your OP. He looks gorgeous in it too. He is skinny so the slim fitting tops look fab on him. He likes the sandals too, so win-win.

shhhh · 15/06/2009 22:46

I sound similar to you in that I hate dressing ds in typical boys stuff..I find most of it boring and although I love next for dd I hate it (usually) for ds. The amount of times I go there for him and come away with nothing..in fact his wardrobe is half the size of dd's .

His tends to by quality and not quanity !

Ds is also quite skinny. Still really in some 18 mths stuff..has little "sparrow" legs bless him. God knows who he gets them off... Mine are prob more "big bird" legs .

Thanks everyone. Dh is away atm so I have emailed him the links/ideas and hopefully we can come to some agreement via email !
