Cheap but nice multifunctional dresses

I want to wear more dresses. Preferably ones that can be worn in a variety of situations (not too beachy, not too dressy, not too worky).

My favourite dress in the whole wide world is actually from New Look, it's jersey material, deep V-neck, sleeveless, black blue green and white, and just above the knee. I can wear it in winter with thick tights or im summer with bare legs, I can put a little top under it to make it less nork-revealing if I want but I don't have to.

Please find me some pretty dresses, up to a maximum of £40 each? I know you can do it.

I'm 5'7, slim on top, not very significant norkage, waist and bum are fine but chunky calves so dresses need to be above the knee, anything that stops below the knee or on the calf is bad.

Pleeeease help me find something nice? Or just recommend some websites that are cheap but not too bad quality?

Alternatively just come and tell me not to buy this. It's not even one-functional, let alone multi-functional! There are approximately three days in the year that I could wear it, and two of them have happened already this year!

So do they not exist or does no-one care?

I care!
That asos dress is nice but doesn;t fit your description of not too beachy, not too dressy

Have you looked at Joules?

SheherazadetheGoat · 03/06/2009 10:54

don't buy the asos dress.

princessmel · 03/06/2009 10:56

Loads more on there

TrillianAstra · 03/06/2009 11:07

I am going into town this afternoon, will definitely look in New Look (save postage if I can). I like the second one but is it going ot be all baggy around the waist? Like the shape of the red umbrella one but not sure about having pictures on my clothes.

ASOS dresses always do look rather short, don't they Sheherazade?

OP posts:
TrillianAstra · 03/06/2009 11:08

I know the ASOS one I liked to in no way fulfilled my requirements, but it had no back!

Those are all very pretty but I want a dress that I can wear into the office and don't want to shove me (very minimal) cleavage in anyone's face, nor do I want that much leg on show. Why are so many dresses realy really short?

SheherazadetheGoat · 03/06/2009 11:10

i know that is why i got excited by the long option.

OrmIrian · 03/06/2009 11:12

But the norkage goat, the norkage!

notwavingjustironing · 03/06/2009 11:15

Tesco have had some really nice "day" dresses in. I bought one for £8 a few weeks ago when they were having a promotion and I've had loads of nice comments about it.

littlelamb · 03/06/2009 11:18

I love this dress

SheherazadetheGoat · 03/06/2009 11:22

wear a vest underneath

OrmIrian · 03/06/2009 11:24

Ooh d'ya think? A nice pink one with some embroidered flowers. Or a Damart special

SheherazadetheGoat · 03/06/2009 11:27

a disney princess one

TrillianAstra · 03/06/2009 11:42

Littlelamb that gives a dead link, so can't see the no doubt lovely dress.

Norkage is fine and great - I'm happy to wear vests under stuff for non-nork occassions!

littlelamb · 03/06/2009 11:59

Bastard thing
It's the marrakech dress. Tis lovely

TrillianAstra · 03/06/2009 12:06

That's definitely a good shape LL, I love the colours on the Malay Orchid dress too (won't bother trying to link, doesn't seem like it'll work).
