What do you think of Hermes Scarves?

Pretentious, old fashioned, overpriced. Or classical, beautiful, fabulous.

Prefer Emilio Pucci scarves myself, think they are a bit younger/funkier, but still elegant and classic (she hopes...). I get lots of comments on mine.

The Hermes scarves I love are classical, beautiful, fabulous and the designs/colourways I don't care for are pretentious, old fashioned and overpriced

I have a couple of the classic 90 cm silk squares but at the moment, I prefer the large cashmere/silk shawls and the smaller 70cm silk squares. There are also a range in cotton. I think the dsign and colourway change the look completely - there are some very contemporary designs and geometric designs that are quite fresh and modern. A lot depends on the way they're knotted/folded too. The hermes.com website has a scarf-folding booklet to download.

Hermes sell 4 special clips to hang the scarves on the wall as art if you fall in love with the design but don't wear scarves.

Love them. Pure class.

CHOOGIRL · 01/06/2009 19:58

I love my red Hermes.. I travel lots on business and always take it with me. If I've misjudged how formal a meeting is, I can pop it on and it instantly transforms what I am wearing. 10% of the one I bought went to charity so I didn't feel so bad parting with almost £200 for it.

Calamansi · 01/06/2009 20:24

I adore mine, I just wish I could afford lots more classic and stylish what's not to love...

fatjac · 01/06/2009 21:50

Oh good a favourable response.

I have always lusted after one. To me they are the epitome of style and elegance. It is my 40th Birthday on Sunday and I know that my Mum and MIL will give me money so I wanted to buy something to keep. It was one of the 90cm squares I was thinking of.

Why is it worth £228? (Genuine question)

malfoy · 01/06/2009 22:31

I have one and I never wear it. It reminds me of something the Queen would wear.

I feel guilty because my mother also bought me an Hermes enamel bracelet which I have never worn.

hf128219 · 01/06/2009 22:33

The work put in to make it. Each one is unique and hand-rolled.

Malfloy - can I put your enamel bracelet to good use?

BanjoMyFanjo · 01/06/2009 22:34

Old granny springs to mind, don't like at all.

Ronaldinhio · 01/06/2009 22:35

I like this although I know it is everywere

cornsilk · 01/06/2009 22:36

I like that one Ronaldinho. Wouldn't part with £200 for it though.

hf128219 · 01/06/2009 22:37

You can buy that in M&S for £15!

Ronaldinhio · 01/06/2009 22:38

my beautiful tres stylish friend has one and has worn it, much to our disgust, endlessly. It goes with everything...she has it in the pale blue/grey colour

swoon

cornsilk · 01/06/2009 22:41

I am not stylish enough for one so it would be wasted on me.

BanjoMyFanjo · 01/06/2009 22:42

That's very Bet Lynch, the leopard print with the pink though.

Ronaldinhio · 01/06/2009 22:43

it might be the final thing to tip you into uber stylish.....

Tinker · 01/06/2009 22:43

Gosh, they're really not very nice are they?

cornsilk · 01/06/2009 22:46

How do you wear them?

Ronaldinhio · 01/06/2009 22:52

like this

BobtheWoodmouse · 01/06/2009 23:14

fatjac - is there a particular one you are after because most of the ones available at the moment are from last year's Year of India collection - this year is Year of Travel and the new 90cm silk scarves will be coming into the stores soon. Surprisingly, I find that the Hermes concession in Harrods has the widest range of scarves. Are you in/near London?

cornsilk · 01/06/2009 23:43

I don't think I could do that look justice Ronaldinhio.
