What's the general opinion on white jeans?

I'm quite tempted. Are they a big no no?

I haven't got a fat arse, if that makes any difference.

I would personally say NO. But Liz Hurley looks good in them

fruitshootsandheaves · 20/05/2009 13:27

They are extremely impractical, especially when you eat chocolate or have dogs, or eat chocolate while walking dogs.

Fimbo · 20/05/2009 13:29

Only if you are about size 6 then yes.

My friend's dd (14) informed her the other day that white trousers/jeans should not be worn with blue tops as it's what old people do.

Liz Hurley day wear. Bit 80s. Sorry.

PuppyMonkey · 20/05/2009 13:32

Oh, right then. Not even cut offs?

OP posts:
Fimbo · 20/05/2009 13:33

NO!

Bellebelle · 20/05/2009 13:35

Highly impractical and I agree with JustcallmeDog that they can look a bit cheap unless accessorised with expensive hair, handbag, sunglasses, yacht etc...

There is a woman at my work who comes in every Friday ('casual Friday') shoehorned into white jeans and she looks awful, I think she thinks she looks like Liz Hurley though.

But saying all that, if you like them and can make them look good then wear them just don't go near grass, chocolate, dogs, children...

Fimbo · 20/05/2009 13:36

Do you wanna look like this PM?.

PuppyMonkey · 20/05/2009 13:36

I usually do have tomato ketchup issues tbh. lol.

I'd look like a snowman, so not for me.

Would love to be lithe enough to carry them off, I think that they can look great.

Joggler · 20/05/2009 13:44

I am alwasy stunend by the vehemence of white trousers on here.
Its very English some how.
I love them.
I cnat imagine a summer without my 5 pairs.

PuppyMonkey · 20/05/2009 13:47

Ah, ah! Look, you see - not everyone is against them!!!

Ok am going to swim against the tide here and say I really like my white jeans! On some people they can certainly look horrible it's true but can also look fresh and, well, a bit different from the same ol' same ol' blue denim. I think they look lovely with gold sandals.

But I have my eye on those Uniqlo coloured jeans too so you might not want to listen to me!

Fimbo · 20/05/2009 13:48

This is Joggler

serenity · 20/05/2009 13:50

My Mum (tall, size 6) and DD (age 5) look good in them. Me? Not a chance in hell.

They are infinitely preferable to white linen trousers in that people can't see your pants (or lack of them - thongs + linen trousers ), but not very practical imho.

PuppyMonkey · 20/05/2009 13:55

Ooh, Mrs MotMot I like that link.

I am size 10 and 42 years old. It's not gonna happen is it?

OP posts:
frisbyrat · 20/05/2009 13:58

You're out of luck, PM. Uniqlo only seem to stock them up to size 8.

Fimbo · 20/05/2009 13:59

Does that not tell you something

nickytwotimes · 20/05/2009 13:59

I don't think white jeans look good on anyone. SOrry.

BobtheWoodmouse · 20/05/2009 14:04

I like them but they don't like me unfortunately. It's worth trying the Uniqlo ones - they size up quite big in some things. White is very eye-catching so good fit and shape is even more important I would think. Also you need the right underwear - skin colour, not white and seam-free in extra large size so there's there's not a hint of bulge anywhere. The shortie shape can work quite well if you go up a size.

squeaver · 20/05/2009 14:07

Lol at "old people" wearing blue tops with white jeans.

I like them too - cropped. But you must have some colour on your legs and wedges (if you have cankles like me)

PuppyMonkey · 20/05/2009 14:10

No cankles here, Squeaver. I always have a bit of St Tropez on my legs in the summer.

Would it be wrong to say I quite like the beige ones at Uniqlo?

Another one in support of white jeans here BUT they absolutely have to be cut to perfection and a nice smooth (non-grainy/textured) denim, iyswim. Cheaper white jeans tend to be made of this really icky heavy weave and I think it makes them look crap.

If you want white trousers which aren't entirely see-through or linen, I can recommend the Boden cotton crops. They are very well cut and fabric is excellent.
