Dressing teen boys and a toddler boy for a v smart wedding.

It's a country house wedding with hats and things. I am thinking of dressing my toddler son in Tulip and Nettle pale blue gingham http://www.tulipandnettle.com/live/showproduct.asp?id=1141 breeches a white t shirt and a Tulip & Nettle sailor top - he'll hate me when he's older but he'll look terribly sweet on the day. But what can I put on his feet and legs...... it would probably look best with white elasticated plimsolls but can I do that to him? I think he will also need long pale blue or navy socks?

And big boys? 17 and 13?

Please help me.

suits for all i'd say

TheRealMrsJohnSimm · 10/05/2009 15:06

oh god no, please don't put your little ones in suits. The 17 year old maybe. The others I would go for smart shirts and either navy or khaki chinos. Seriously. Suits for the Under 17's are incredibly naff........imo

Disenchanted3 · 10/05/2009 15:08

That sailor top looks like a scruffy dress up outfit.

PM73 · 10/05/2009 15:08

Navy blue socks would look lovely with that.

I would take the older boys to somewhere like Debenhams & take a look at the suits there.

sparkleandshine · 10/05/2009 15:08

you are right - he will hate you - it is lovely though

I would put older boys in a dark suit - that will be the dress code I'm sure???

i'd go for somthing like this www.next.co.uk/shopping/children/olderboys/41/7 you can get cheaper versions at tesco....

What about this for your toddler,

sparkleandshine · 10/05/2009 15:10

i'd probably put the little on in this or a darker version from BHS www.next.co.uk/shopping/children/youngerboys/7/9

personally hate suits for little ones! 'smart' trousers and shirt, plus waistcoast if he's up for it.

I'd even avoid a suit for the 13 yr old. Just been to a wedding and the poor boys in suits were continually being told to keep off the grass, be careful with food etc. poor things.

But the 17 yr old - def a suit.

I also object to families with all 'matching' children. But I suspect I'm in a minority

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 10/05/2009 15:28

Something like this for the toddler boy

with linen trousers and a boatneck shirt

ScummyMummy · 10/05/2009 15:29

17 y.o. should be able to see to his own outfit, shouldn't he? Bung him some dosh if he doesn't own anything smart enough and let him sort it out.

I'd just go for not jeans and a nice shirt for the other two. But I hate seeing overdressed children, so am probably not the best person to ask. I think the tulip and nettle clothes look dire, I'm afraid. Sorry.

Voltaire · 10/05/2009 17:05

I can't leave it to the 17 y old so sort out himself, he would buy a bright orange pair of shorts and a lime green t-shirt and think we are all being far too fussy.

I don't think I could bear to see any of them in a suit..... they aren't suity types. I think a smart shirt and chino type trews is a good idea.... I think they will cope with that.

I see my sailor top choice isn't terribly popular. I think he will look peachy in it.

Thanks for all replies/suggestions to date even if it is to say (in so many words) blimey to the sailor top and breeches.
