Are skin coloured tights ever a good thing?

I am going to a wedding tomorrow and will be wearing this (I think!) picture here.

I have pasty legs and also it's probably going to be raining/cold.

Can I wear black tights or is that just silly? My work mate almost died when I suggested I might and says I MUST wear skin coloured tights. The thought makes me feel a bit ill.

What is best?

This is the same workmate who asked me what tights I will be wearing at my wedding... she's insane isn't she? Help!

I can't help sorry as I hate tights. (thought makes me feel sick).. BUT bumping for you..

BUT,im sure tan coloured tights would look fine..?

I usually just tan my legs..can you not do that instead..? not a dark colour BUT just enough colour..?

hobbgoblin · 27/04/2009 20:37

Yes, you must get tan ones with a bit of sheen ideally.

Can you not be brave re. cold and use fake tan instead?

traceybath · 27/04/2009 20:38

No - stay away from flesh coloured tights.

You could slap a bit of fake tan on and then moisturise well and put a bit of oil/sheeny lotion to make them glossy.

Black tights - do you mean opaques - i guess that could work but may look a little heavy with the dress.

beanieb · 27/04/2009 20:48

the wedding is tomorrow. Tool late for fake tan.

I always have the same problem. Most skin coloured tights do look horrible. Especially ones that are either too matt or too shiny.

That Johnsons holiday skin stuff is OK to slap on your legs and I would probably go for that if I were you and just brave the rain.

Failing that, Pretty Polly used to do some tights that were just about bearable because they did them in a very pale colour and they were very sheer so not too visible. I think they were called sun sheen or something like that.

Opaques might be OK, but maybe not for a spring wedding.

janeite · 27/04/2009 20:51

Not opaques.
No to bare legs in the rain and cold; you'd just look daft imho.
I'd say light (ie not American tan) sheer flesh coloured tights would be fine.

RaspberryBlower · 27/04/2009 20:52

Have you got a selection of tights or are you planning to run and get some in the morning?

traceybath · 27/04/2009 20:52

do you have any fake tan in the house as you could slap some on tonight - its not too late!

Failing that you could do a mad dash to boots tomorrow and get some of that stuff that just colours your legs for the day.

MadameCastafiore · 27/04/2009 20:54

Cannot possibly comment without knowing what sort of shoes you will be wearing - tis very important!

shhhh · 27/04/2009 20:57

get to tesco now and get either johnsons type fake tan OR the type that colours your legs and washes off...

It may be nice tomorrow and you will look fab ...

beanieb · 27/04/2009 21:03

To be honest I have never fake tanned apart from one spray tan and that stuff you put on and it gradually gives you a glow/tan. I don't really want to start now, specially not the day before the wedding when it could go horribly wrong.

I think I will find something else to wear

I hate weddings, I hate dressing up, I hate the fact that I bought 6 dresses on ebay and despite liking all but two of them I still don't know what to wear.

Is it just generally accepted that people freeze their tits off at weddings?

The shoes are black with a flower on (Black) but I think I hate them too now - sigh!

StercusAccidit · 27/04/2009 21:06

Yeah.....over your head

Erm.. i wouldn't go for the johnsons stuff, loreal do a fab one that doesnt make your knees look like you've been doing it doggy style in the mud

But IMO LIGHT flesh coloured tights should be ok....unless its with open toed shoes..yup, the shoes are v important.

beanieb · 27/04/2009 21:08

ok - will wear this clicky with a black belt under the bust, black shoes, pasty white legs and a black shrug.

Awww don't be down...

Tan tights will be fine and a good substitute for fake tan.(just to add, the type of tan that colours now and washes off is fab and allows you to correct any mistakes straight away. Is as subtle or strong as you want and ideal for your situation.)

The dress you showed is fab for a wedding and the shoes sound a good match.

In answer to " is it generally accepted that people freeze their tits off at a wedding"..

YES! The bride does so its only right that the guests do as well.!

It will only be cold while pictures etc done and one in the venue you will be fine.

Chill, you will look fab and have a lovely time.. x

shhhh · 27/04/2009 21:10

NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The 1st one is lovely.

twinsetandpearls · 27/04/2009 21:10

Flesh coloured tights once got me a job. I had an interview in front of a well known headmistress and was told that she would never give a job to a woman with bare legs.

beanieb · 27/04/2009 21:11

RaspberryBlower - ina panic I called into Marks and sparks and bought sheer 10 denier skin coloured tights and hold ups! I hate myself.

OP posts:
shhhh · 27/04/2009 21:12

twinset .

What a poor reason not to give someone a job..!

"Oh can you give me feedback on how I did"

"Oh yes, you were perfect, however you didn't wear tights" .

beanieb · 27/04/2009 21:12

shhhh - you might not think that when you see it on me! I look fat

Grrr - and here I am sat on the interweb when I should be making a decision.

Last wedding I went to I loved the dress I had but hated how it looked on me, and I was cold!

beanieb · 27/04/2009 21:12

I am a young 39, five ft 5 but 10 stone. I have a belly. I thought the green dress might disguise that?

OP posts:
shhhh · 27/04/2009 21:13

although reminds me...I got my last job on the fact that my manager to be loved the lipgloss and shoes I wore and wanted to know where they were from .

Sums up the type of manager/staff relationship we had .

shhhh · 27/04/2009 21:16

5ft 5 and 10 stone is not fat !

Im 4ft 11in and 9 and half stone..!

You need confidence, anything will look fab on you then..
IMO the 1st dress will look elegant and perfect for a wedding. Wear it with a smile.

beaniebaby25 · 27/04/2009 21:20

Both dresses are lovely beanieb. You'll look gorgeous.

beanieb · 27/04/2009 21:27

I don't have the confidence to wear the first one, My OH likes it but I know I will keep my cardie on all night and feel like a fool. I hate it when I get like this but I should be used to it as I am like it every single time I have to dress up for anything
