I have ignored my feet for months now and have decided to sort them out, has anyone got any quick fix ideas how to make them smooth and stay that way without expensive products?

not walking on them

everything else seems like an endless slog of scraping and creams and pallavas

stainesmassif · 21/04/2009 20:35

CCS cream is the business. It's about 4 quid and gets rid of heel cracks after about a week of regular use. I've got some hiding under my bed. I must get it out.

howtotellmum · 21/04/2009 20:36

Foot file- Body shop or Boots etc. Vaseline Intensive Care tube of foot cream £2.50-ish. use both daily.

Fluffybubble · 21/04/2009 20:48

Someone on a recent thread mentioned piling on the vaseline at night and wearing cotton socks - it works! Have done this for 2 evenings now and my feet look almost reasonable!

ThePhantomPooer · 21/04/2009 20:52

You need to see a foot lady... or man and get them to shave all the hard skin off atleast once before flip flop season then keep it up at home with regular moisturising and pumicing.

Overmydeadbody · 21/04/2009 20:53

pumice stone.

I vigorously rub my feet with one every time I have a bath, so about four times a week.

Juxal · 21/04/2009 20:54

Mum's chiropodist recommended Flexitol Heel Balm as it has the highest % of urea (which is what you need). It's more expensive but does work very very quickly. My feet looked normal after one night. You're supposed to use it every night but I don't.

Tillyscoutsmum · 21/04/2009 20:56

Flexitol... its great

pollywobbledoodle · 21/04/2009 20:58

flexitol works really well but it does smell of wee.....needs must for dainty trotters eh?

angelene · 21/04/2009 21:01

Flexitol is great but I really hate putting cream on my feet - I hate the sensation of walking on creamed up feet and I don't like doing it last thing at night because the balm is so thick you can't rub it into your hands, ick!

mileniwmffalcon · 21/04/2009 21:14

do people really notice hard skin on other people's feet?

moocowme · 21/04/2009 21:16

pedi egg worked well for me and a bit of foot rub stuff.

cornsilk · 21/04/2009 21:21

flexitol and a really good pedicure

howtotellmum · 21/04/2009 21:34

Yes, I do all the time especially if I am in a queue at the supermarket or bank and they are in front of me.

ABetaDad · 21/04/2009 21:45

During the winter I use a foot file in the shower every morning on my heels and Flexitol plus cotton socks every night.

PurlyQueen · 21/04/2009 21:45

"do people really notice hard skin on other people's feet"

Yes! I remember seeing a woman wearing the most delectable Gucci sandals, but the effect was ruined by her crusty, unkempt elephants' feet.

mrsmaidamess · 21/04/2009 21:46

I've never seen an unkempt elephant

mamakoukla · 21/04/2009 21:49

In desperation and a bid to rid the bathroom cupboard of stragglers, I attempted Lansinoh After all, lanolin is used in moisturising creams

Not quite the intended purpose but rubbed it in at bedtime, popped on a pair of socks, and I saw a big difference by the next morning. My heels had been on the verge of cracking they were so dry.

newgirl · 21/04/2009 21:51

i have a file from champneys and it is most effective and satisfying

castlesintheair · 21/04/2009 21:53

flexitol and a podiatrist

ABetaDad · 21/04/2009 21:54

I do not care what others think but my cracked heels bleed (especially in winter) and then I get deep fissures that hurt with every step.

I have changed my diet now though and they are a lot better.

Hangingbellyofbabylon · 21/04/2009 21:56

I second the ped-egg - vile concept but the best thing I've found so far, also flexitol but I hate the feel of it so don't use it as often as I should. ped egg

Hangingbellyofbabylon · 21/04/2009 21:57

Abetadad what changes did you make to your diet if you don't mind me asking? I have real problems winter and summer and the cracks are really painful.

janeite · 21/04/2009 21:59

Flexitol really is the bee's knees, the cat's pyjamas, insert cliche of choice here. It's fab. They do a handcream now too, which is also fab, especially for night times.

katiepotatie · 21/04/2009 22:04

I stopped wearing high heels approx 2 years ago, and havent had any hard skin on my feet since!(I know only wear them on special occasions)
