frigging awesome!

I used a method from this thread and then something similar to trim the back.
I did have same length below shoulder hair and now it is all layered and light and pretty.
And it took 10 minutes in the kitchen with a brush, hairband and some scissors!

I've done it too, thanks for this thread.
Haven't had time to go to the hairdressers and now my hair looks healthy and bouncy

MerlinsBeard · 20/04/2009 09:00

nappy - you are very anti this hair cut aren't you? Why?

Its the same as my hairdresser used to do it back when i could actually afford to go (she did choppy layers) i don't actually have ANY spare money, even for DS1s birthday this week so i don't go to the hairdresser - which would cost me about £25 anyway and this is better than the way i normally do my own hair ie I cut my ponytail and DH levels it off.

Whoever asked why the ponytail on the side, it's because the lady had a side parting, if you have a central parting it needs to be in the middle of your head.

JackBauer · 20/04/2009 09:11

It works with layers but would only work with longer hair I think as shorter hair wouldn';t go into the pnoytail.
Alicemumma - Hopefully we are avoiding the normal problems as you cut when dry, and don't blunt cut it.

Nice one Lizzy! I think we need a flickr group or something to show off our swishy hair

Amapoleon · 20/04/2009 09:52

I have short hair and was wondering if it would work with lots of little ponytails. You can tell I am desperate for a hair cut.

flightoftheeasterbunyip · 20/04/2009 10:05

Ooh are we going to have a haircut clique now?

I'm still being tempted but I know once I start I can't stop. I am very scissor happy.

it is a shame I look crap with short hair.

nappyaddict · 20/04/2009 10:21

Not against it just thinking it would only work the first time and then not again if you had short layers.

MrsSchadenfreude · 20/04/2009 11:07

My DH hasn't noticed either! And it is a good four inches shorter and much curlier/bouncier at the front with the layers!

MaryAnnSailors · 20/04/2009 12:11

MrsShad, i bet he's thinking, 'there's something different about my wife, but i don't know what it is... better be quiet until she tells me what it is...'

...i think that's what was going on with my dh yesterday...

SlightlyMadStirrup · 20/04/2009 17:01

Well all my colleagues noticed.

They thought it looked good.

Then I told them I did it myself and they were suitably shocked.

JackBauer · 20/04/2009 20:03

Still nothing from mr SMS then?
At least you have the appreciation from colleagues to keep you going.
Shall we place bets on how long it takes him and Mr Shad? Are they normally this useless?!

Although to be fair Dh only noticed as when he got back I was preening and had it down, which I never normally do!

OP posts:
SlightlyMadStirrup · 20/04/2009 22:22

Nope.

I think he must have noticed but isn't going to grace me with a comment.

Just washed and straightened it again. Is definately stepped at teh front....but seems OK after I have slept on it

notnuftime · 21/04/2009 09:11

Well I was brave and I have done it Thanks!!!!! it looks like I have been to hairdressers, it is nice and choppy layers and I can't help swishing and flicking it about.........lol

I also did my daughters and she is happy with it too . So thanks to all who suggested it I have saved about 50 quid it would of been about 30quid for me and about 20 quid for dd.So I am really happy.Even my other half noticed which is amazing!!

JackBauer · 21/04/2009 09:13

[renegade] I'm having my regular 6 week cut at the hairdresser's tomorrow. Just had my reminder text

JackBauer · 21/04/2009 09:30

Hey, if you have the time and money to get it done at the hairdressers while sitting down and having a nice cup of coffee brought to you while you read a magazine I am not going to begrudge you that!

though. I am only overexcited about this as I don't have the time/childcare/money to do that!

OP posts:
JackBauer · 21/04/2009 09:31

But are you at least going to request the MN?

OP posts:
NL3 · 21/04/2009 09:35

Thanks for this....tried it on Saturday....delighted with the results....bit like a "Rachel" cut.

sockmonkey · 21/04/2009 12:03

Oooooh. I am very very tempted. Last had a hair cut about 18 months ago. Hmmmm. I have very curly hair though.

Will sleep on it I think.

SoupDragon · 21/04/2009 12:11

It has to be said that my hair was far more unkempt before BabyDragon started at nursery

PMSLBrokeMN · 21/04/2009 12:25

I cut DD's hair last night as she's back at school today - she was a bit about me trying out a cut I read about on the internet so she only let me trim it a bit, but she seemed happy enough and all the dead ends are gone at least!

I'd do it myself if my hair was longer, I used to cut my own hair in a bob anyway - just used long dressmaking scissors and a steady hand but I love my hairdresser, she's now a good mate of mine and I don't grudge paying her as she seems to know what my hair should look like better than me!

milkysallgone · 21/04/2009 12:55

I am in desperate need of a haircut and break out in a cold sweat just thinking about going to the hairdresser.

Right - I am definitely going to go for it tomorrow morning when the dcs are at nursery. Will report back...

asuwere · 21/04/2009 14:19

I had just said to DH this morning that I really need to get my hair cut but I loathe going to the hairdressers - I kinda like someone else doing it but don't like the forced chat and finding the time...

Anyway, just read this thread (skimmed most of it - it's very long!) and gave it a go... Looks really good. Did it twice as just wanted to test it first then I did it again and cut off much more. Fab difference. My hair is very thick and very curly and it worked so well...

Thanks to all those who tried it first and convinced me

2Happy · 21/04/2009 14:38

OMFG this thread is the answer to my prayers!!

I hate going to the hairdressers, only a little less than I hate going to the dentist

Have recently been getting dh to cut my hair. Lets just say that a large animal vet's talents lie in places other than hairdressing

The pics you've all been uploading are amazing, they all look so professional.

I think I may have to have a try. Frankly, it can't look much worse (can it?!)

JackBauer · 21/04/2009 14:41
