I know it's my fault for being a cheapskate, but my trusty emus had started 'talking' so was browsing ebay and came across some uggs which were within my price range should have known better, but bought them anyway and now they are here I am pretty sure that they are fake.
My DD has some non fake ones but I can't compare them really, as hers are a different syle ( with side zip)
Mine smell funny, are really tight on the leg and have soles which are really light and sound 'hollow' if that makes sense.

Does anyone have any sure fire ways of telling please? If they are fake, what can I do? Really can't afford to lose the money ( £71) on crap

if you do a search on ebay there is somewhere that shows you fake and otherwise..ill try and find the link

Ronaldinhio · 31/03/2009 16:42

this is God punishing you

accept your punishment and learn from it

FunkierThanAMosquitosTweeter · 31/03/2009 17:11

Yes Ronaldinhio, I'm sure it is.
Thanks Bishboschone, have just found the guide, I am going to contact the seller and see what they say.

Funkier, my sister got caught out like this last year. The guide we found more or less said that if you're buying them on ebay, they're most likely fake

But if you paid with Paypal you should be protected - did you?

FunkierThanAMosquitosTweeter · 31/03/2009 18:34

Yeah I paid by paypal, I'm hoping they will get my money back for me? Urgh I am so silly, I kind of knew really, but I was soo desperate for some I just thought " Oh I'm sure they'll be fine..."
Lesson learnt! Lol

My sister was just exactly the same - seemed to good to be true, but worth taking a risk.

Her seller didn't answer and deregistered and all sorts, but when we opened a dispute just refunded the money straight away. Have you contacted the seller direct? We did, and said basically we think these are fakes, and here's why (with a list of the defects).

Paypal are good, although they take a little while. I opened on dispute on ebay because I hadn't received the goods and the seller wasn't responding. had to wait ten days and then got my refund no worries.

Good luck

TheRealMrsJohnSimm · 31/03/2009 19:11

Definitely open a dispute with Paypal. We got stung for an allegedly genuine Scalextric track for DS1's christmas pressie. £50 later, this item turns up which was total tat and nothing like a scalextric and definitely not the item which was on their listing. We returned to seller. Took a while to get the money back, iirc but we did get a full refund.

Thanks frazzled
Have contacted seller and said I think they are fake ( they smell of cheap flipflops!)
heard nothing yet, but still early...

Thanks TheRealMrsJohnSimm, and glad you got your money back !

At £71 I'd say definitely fake. There just aren't bargains around on real Uggs at the moment due to the poor exchange rates. It happened to me too. I got all my money back including return costs to America to buy my silence and ensure I didn't leave bad feedback.

The differences on my fake ones were really subtle and I wouldn't have known unless I'd had real ones to compare them with. The synthetic smell was definitely one of those, my real ones smelt like new Crocs do - that kind of rubbery smell, my fake Uggs just smelled cheap and nasty.

I called ebay's helpline at the time - they told me you can definitely file a dispute with ebay after a certain number of days, as the goods aren't described. Good luck!!

FunkierThanAMosquitosTweeter · 01/04/2009 16:04

Thanks Kettlechip! I've just had a message from the seller saying he will refund if I send them back, he also says " I know my items are all real and genuine, and they smell like sheep because they are made out of sheepskin"
Lol!

I have 'genuine' uggs and they do smell a bit rubbery when new and are also very tight on the leg. I have 4 pairs so am experienced Ugg buyer

FunkierThanAMosquitosTweeter · 01/04/2009 16:42

Oh-oh Scorpio, if yours don't smell of sheep they must be fakes lol
anniemac, they look really nice, I think I might get some of those if I manage to get a refund!

These soles are exactly like flipflop soles in smell and weight. It's quite a snidey fake though, because the sole pattern is almost identical to my DDs genuine pair!

OP posts:
suwoo · 01/04/2009 16:56

For £71 if they're a good fake I'd keep em! They may go over on the soles though- which is never a good look

FunkierThanAMosquitosTweeter · 01/04/2009 17:18

They are a really, really good fake, even have a reinforced heel! It's just the dodgy cheap sheep smell that give them away!

You can tell for sure by the label on the heel of the boots

I have a pair of "genuine" uggs which i got from Uk shoe store for around £140 - these are actually made in China and the company that makes them is American, although they have the "UGG australia" trademark label.

I also have a pair I got for about $140 AUD at the airport when I was in Australia - they are genuine sheepskin but have a slightly different label and were actually made in Australia.

In australia any of these type of sheepskin boots can be called uggs, the name itself is not a trademark, only the "ugg australia" brand is.
