I don't have any practical shoes for doing any decent amount of walking in, ballet flats are fine for wandering around town but I want something I can walk in for hours and hours.

To wear with jeans or linen trousers in summer, maybe a knee length denim skirt or is that pushing things??

love the barefoot platforms (slight paradox there)

Ooh, me too but they're not the vivo barefoot! But I do have a couple of pairs of the terra plana heels - one in the 'doll' height and one in the higher (emerald green bought in the sale - lush) and they are astonishingly comfortable for heels - not walking shoes but definitely walking to work shoes IYSWIM.

Word of warning if you do order - their shoes do come up shorter than usual, so you may need to go up a european size.

I think they're quite sweet. Maybe as an extra to wear sometimes. Not sure about the colour though.

But I don't get why Birkenstocks are supposed to be so great and are suggested so often. They look ugly and utilitarian to me.

Birkenstocks are hideous. Like someone drew around your foot on a piece of paper then made a shoe that shape.

The natural shape of a foot can be a beautiful thing.

Unless you have bunioned hooves.

I really like Birkenstocks.
