nutrogena intensive hand cream - about £3

DebInAustria · 25/03/2009 10:30

I've started smearing mine in Vaseline when I go to bed - not a good smell but it is helping

HeadFairy · 25/03/2009 10:30

I have hands not dissimilar in texture to the rough side of a badgers behind and I swear by this stuff

MaryAnnSailors · 25/03/2009 10:33

another vote neutrogena - not luxurious - but it works brilliantly.

BonsoirAnna · 25/03/2009 10:34

Xérand by Laroche-Posay

OhBling · 25/03/2009 10:34

Yup on neutrogena. Also Nivea does a similar version which works well. We have them scattered around the house, in my hangbag etc.

cyteen · 25/03/2009 10:36

Aveeno. Totally sorted out my cracked and peeling winter fingers in a matter of days

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 25/03/2009 10:37

Crabtree and Evelyn do one that they market as being for gardeners hands, can't remember the exact name. It's amazing.

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 25/03/2009 10:38

Just bog standard Nivea cream, never fails.

CMOTdibbler · 25/03/2009 10:41

My best method involves water, aqueous cream (ask pharmacist)vaseline and cotton gloves (from Boots first aid section). Soak hands in water, using aqueous cream like soap. Leave for 10 minutes. Shake water off and slap on loads of vaseline (big, thick layer), put hands in gloves and go to bed.

In the morning, your hands will be fab, soft and smooth

Neutrogena is great on a daily basis

Deux · 25/03/2009 10:41

Similarly afflicted here. Big thumbs up for Aveeno. Also Body Shop hemp handcream. Had a really good one from Avon but can't remember the name.

I had some Compeed cracked heel cream in my bedside drawer and put it on my hands one night - fabulous result.

I've tried the Neutrogena a few times, does anyone else find it difficult to rub in? Perhaps need to revisit it.

Lizzylou · 25/03/2009 10:42

I have just bought a Soap and Glory one (was on offer at Boots, abot £2.50) and it is fab, my hands normally look like they belong to an 80 yr old ex-washerwoman and they are looking good atm.

DamonBradleylovesPippi · 25/03/2009 10:42

thanks, lot's to try next time I hit the shops.

I've tried neutrogena which is good but not as miracolous as I wish. I've got lots of creams scattered around house car etc but they all seem to work for a minute and then the hands just look exactly the same. the best I've ever tried so far is clarins's hand and nails which seems to at least keep them decent for a bit longer.

I like the idea of the one for gardener's hands, not that I've touched a shrub in months.

Is there a treatment that one can do for hands btw?

StealthPolarBear · 25/03/2009 10:43

I have scabby hands and find neutrogena is good, but also I've been using the body shop hemp hand cream which is very good as well and not greasy.

JulesJules · 25/03/2009 10:45

I love the l'occitane one, although a bit pricey. Am currently using good old Atrixo and it is FAB. My mum got me some after it came out top in some survey. Only £2ish.

midnightexpress · 25/03/2009 10:46

I second the Crabtree and Evelyn gardener's one - it's lovely (and I'm not a handcream kind of a gal - can't bear the greasy after-effects)

DamonBradleylovesPippi · 25/03/2009 10:47

CMOTdribbler you've answer my treatment question thanks.

also compeed original usage would make enormous sense here when hands look far worse than feet !

last time at john lewis or fenwick or somewhere like that they made me try some handcream all natural that said 'probably the best hand cream in the world'. anyone has come across that and know the name? (not that I'd believe a marketing catchfrase of course!)

OP posts:
feedthegoat · 25/03/2009 10:48

I use all sorts but if they're particularly bad (mine tend to crack and bleed after too much contact with cleaning products) only Body Shop Hemp Hand Protector sorts them.

Wizzska · 25/03/2009 10:49

I second Crabtree and Evelyn Gardner's Hand Cream or Elizabeth Arden 8 Hour hand cream if you want really good and luxury hand cream. I also use the Nutrogena anti ageing hand cream is great for a budget version.

DamonBradleylovesPippi · 25/03/2009 10:49

feedthegoat you gave me another good reason for not touching the cleaning products much

OP posts:
feedthegoat · 25/03/2009 10:50

Glad to be of service

DamonBradleylovesPippi · 25/03/2009 10:51

can I quote you when arguing with dh re filtiness of house?

OP posts:
Bucharest · 25/03/2009 10:51

Tisserand Essential Oil rich. Smells like Heaven.

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 25/03/2009 10:51

I have some nice sanctuary things that are a treatment for hands, a soak and a scrub. Not sure if they sell them individually, mine was a set that was a gift from someone.

HensMum · 25/03/2009 10:53

I third (or fourth?!) Crabtree and Evelyn. They do a hand scrub as well, which is just amazing. Rub it on dry hands, rinse off, dry and apply handcream and your hands will look and feel soft and smooth.
