Birkenstocks, the type with 2 large straps across that are very easy to walk in

mileniwmffalcon · 15/03/2009 19:08

they're not style or beauty, but if you seriously want walking sandals these are fantastic.

AnyFucker · 15/03/2009 19:10

those are the most hideous shoes in the world.....

with a maxi dress ??

omg!

mileniwmffalcon · 15/03/2009 19:11

well with a maxi dress you can't see the shoes, can you :P

mileniwmffalcon · 15/03/2009 19:12

i wear them with skirts all summer when i have serious walking to do and they look fine, in a casual, surfy kinda way. and tbh i don't give that much of a toss since they are officially the most comfy shoes i've ever owned.

traceybath · 15/03/2009 19:12

i'd second birkenstocks and please not the walking sandals although i'm sure they're very sensible

or perhaps a low wedge heel shoe?

katz · 15/03/2009 19:12

hmmm not quite what i had in mind! i have birki's was just wondering if there were a sandle out there thats a bit more dainty but you can walk miles in

mileni, I bet you look just like a "mad lady"

mileniwmffalcon · 15/03/2009 19:21

that would be a comfortable mad lady af :P

How about these from Camper? Or are you definitely sold on the "sandal only" thing?

Personally, I think any sandal which you have bedded in will be comfy enough for doing city touristy things.

Can't beat Birkenstocks imo though. I took several pairs of lovely, dainty sandals to Paris last July - had visions of self wafting elegantly through the streets and wistful emoticon but ended up resorting to my Birki's on a regular basis!! There is nothing so inelegant as hobbling around in blistered agony - no matter how beautiful your shoes are

TheRealMrsJohnSimm · 15/03/2009 19:27

Sorry - don't know why that weird link ended up there......was supposed to say rather than taking you to some "wafting" website!! (Whatever the feck that might be )

Vamonos · 15/03/2009 19:29

Nice pair of Crocs, that'll sort you out

I'd love to know the answer to this too, I always end up with flip flops as I can't find anything else that doesn't rip wedges out of my flesh.

I do occasionally wear canvas trainers with trainer socks in the summer, but they do get a bit hot. And they aren't really a good look with swollen ankles.

janeite · 15/03/2009 19:30

Hush Puppies tend to do sme quite nice sandals.

DD2 had some similar ones to the pair mileni posted and said they were really comfortable but they are deffo not stylish! In fact, I looked at a skirt in M&S today and dd1 said it looked like a skirt that ladies in walking sandals would wear - it put me off the skirt anyway!

What about some decent flip flops?

SniffyHock · 15/03/2009 19:30

I could walk a long way in something like this or this but you really can't beat Birkies (as long as they're in a natural colour!)

katz · 15/03/2009 19:33

its going to be birki again isn't it!

OP posts:
AnyFucker · 15/03/2009 19:34

yes katz, listen to your auntie AnyFucker

janeite · 15/03/2009 19:36

Are these too old-ladyish? look comfy

katz · 15/03/2009 19:46

maybe

so since its back to birki's which ones?

I think that patent birkenstocks look good, maybe red or black, or a metallic silver or gold. Either patent or metallic makes them less orthapaedic looking. And you need to paint your toenails too.

suwoo · 15/03/2009 19:59

I have the silver ones and I love them, they would be perfect for your NY in a maxi dress scenario . I can't wait to ditch the uggs and bring on the Birkis.

LynetteScavo · 15/03/2009 20:03

Step away from the footgloves.

LynetteScavo · 15/03/2009 20:04

You can't go wrong with a pair of silver Birkies.

janeite · 15/03/2009 20:09

Must admit I found Birkies uncomfortable, probably because I have very narrow feet and they rubbed all over because my feet were slipping around in them. I have stepped away from the footgloves but still thought they looked comfortable!

Lastyearsmodel · 15/03/2009 20:16

I am in love with these TEVA sandals but can't find a UK stockist.

Maybe you could go shopping for sandals? They do a wedge-heeled version too.
