DRY SKIN: Can anyone recommend a bloody good moisturiser?

Zebraa · 09/03/2009 11:42

My skin has always been really dry but at the minute it seems to be the worst it has been, partly because I neglect my skin so much and moisturise probably once every two months

I really want to get my skin in good condition. I don't mind spending more than your average on a good moisturiser as long as it's flawless! The only problem I have is even though my skin is super dry, a cream that is too thick just sits on my skin. Could I be more awkward?!

I need one for my body and one for my face - any suggestions?

I too have really dry skin and struggle to find the time......

I use Clinique's 3step thing on my face which needed a month or so but then really helped. I used to just chuck E45 on my face and it just sat.......

I use the facial wash at night, then the toner, then the lotion goes on really well. In the morning after a shower I just use the toner and lotion.

Bodywise........exfoliating is good. I sometimes use The Body Shop's glove/mitt thing and sometimes I use a body scrub.

The I rub in Aveeno, it leaves my skin really well nourished.

frumpygrumpy · 09/03/2009 11:46

The Aveeno comes in different forms, I use the big tube, its about £5/6.

For face, moisturise every morning and night and it will help lots.

For body, i am busy so I only manage a couple of times a week but even that helps.

Galava · 09/03/2009 11:49

Drinking plenty of water or fluids really helps.

Boots age defying moisturiser has been given some fab reviews and its not too pricey.

BonsoirAnna · 09/03/2009 11:57

If your moisturiser is sitting on your skin, that is because your face isn't properly cleaned before you apply it and/or you are not rubbing it in properly.

nailpolish · 09/03/2009 12:23

try clarins serum and hydraquench cream
you put some serum on first then the cream
its great
then before you go to bed use the clarins orchid oil
ITS FAB

how do you clean your face? do you use toner?

Eve Lom CLEANSER - my skin is super dry and this is only thing that helps make it softer - even before moisturiser it feels and looks hydrated.. agree about using an oil as well.. my all time best moisturiser has been Creme de la mer but I can not justify that but find using Eve Lom plus Clinique Factor 50 sun block is doing very good job at the moment..

WowOoo · 09/03/2009 13:14

Eve Lom's TLc cream is good. Not usre if I would use it on daily basis as it's very heavy, but sorted my dry skin out. Love all her stuff.

dogtanianrocks · 09/03/2009 13:34

Dr Hauskhua (or however you bloody spell it ) rose day cream is AMAZING for dry skin and I have tried a lot of things...

lizandlulu · 09/03/2009 17:21

I was going to say Jurlique too. I prefer the Calendular cream though.

I am a lot older than you but have been using olay's 3 point regenersit cream for about a month now and am seriously impressed.
Not only has it improved the wrinkles it has really made my skin feel moist .

Tillyscoutsmum · 09/03/2009 20:28

Really like Jo Malone Ginseng day cream for face. Exfoliating does make a big difference though

Zebraa · 09/03/2009 21:17

Any tips I can be doing tonight to make my skin softer tomorrow?

Also, what exfoliator is good for very dry skin?

I have just started using Waitrose baby bottom butter on my face. I have very dry skin and after having a horrid cold all the skin around my nose was flaky - attractive!
It works really well as a night cream because it is thick but can also be used as a balm for real problem areas if you feel it is too thick. The best bit is it only costs £2.50

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 09/03/2009 21:23

Zebraa - I've recently started using No.7 Hydroquench day cream. It's very moisturising but also very light, goes in really easily.

For exfoliating, I would just use a flannel or face sponge. Dry skin is often sensitive and a lot of the exfoliators on the market can be quite harsh. My skin has changed completely since having DS and the one I used to use brought me out in a horrid flare up last week. I've not tried anything since, just used a very soft sponge with my cleanser a couple of times.

For tonight I would say just drink plenty of water.
What have you got in the house in the way of moisturiser?

hannahsaunt · 09/03/2009 21:43

Ask your chemist for an aqueous cream - that's what I use for my excematous dry skin.
