Foundation for people with pale skin.

twinsetandpearls · 28/02/2009 17:52

My foundation has run out, I have tried to save money by buying a no7 one but it was no good. In the past I have bought benefit or chanel foundation.

I still need to save money so am looking if I can get it cheaper on ebay. What foundation can people with pale skin recomend?

And people who use chanel what shade are they, clair is to dark for me and I cant rememember the name of the shade I used.

Thank you. Will see if I can find a time when the SA isn't there, as the Benefit ones always scare me!

twinsetandpearls · 02/03/2009 18:35

No I haven't decided Janeite, I am going to hang on until we can get to a department store I think.

Having had a look recently I think Estee Lauder is paler than Chanel. also Lancome seem to do pale shades. I am currently using Clinique Repair Wear in Alabaster- but even it is darker than my skin tone.
Prescriptives do one that is very pale, and so does Bobbi Brown- I'd need the shade up from their palest and that is never usually the case for me.

Aefondkiss · 02/03/2009 19:59

Did you get Marie Claire this month? (with the free neals yard cream) - there is a Lancome advert that has a card you take in to any Lancome counter, for a free 7 day sample bottle of foundation - I recently stopped using clinique which has always been fine for my pale skin (using Lancome cream compact thing now), Clinique is a wee bit too dry for my skin. Lancome is pretty expensive, I am quite tempted to try Mac, seems reasonably priced and lovely products... what about benefit foundation is it any good?

wobbegong · 02/03/2009 20:11

Can I recommend the cheaper version of Benetint by Body Shop. They sell it in a tube with a wand and a gel-like consistency, rather than a glass jar with a nail polish style brush. Loads cheaper and the effect is identical. And you don't smash the glass bottle by dropping it accidentally. Like I did.

For foundation, I usually go for Prescriptives but weirdly when I borrowed someone's Maybelline it was almost identical coverage-wise.

twinsetandpearls · 02/03/2009 20:11

Yes benefit foundation is good actually.

I did read once that Bourjois is made in the same factory as Chanel - but I am not very keen on Bourjois, I have bought it a couple of times when I an out of foundation and couldn't get anything better....

I have to say I can justify the expense of my foundation by dividing the cost £, by the months it lasts for, and then it seems very cheap to me , as it usually lasts me nearly 6 months.

lou33 · 02/03/2009 20:38

i dont often use foundation but the rimmel ones are good for my pale skin, though atm i am using you rebel lite by benefit, its a v slightly tinted moisturiser for pale skins, which makes me look a bit healthier without looking like i have got make up on, (especially if used with the erase paste under my eyes) and a tiny bit goes a long way,

janeite · 02/03/2009 21:01

Thanks re: the Body Shop tip. I haven't been in the Body Shop since I was a teenager, or buying pressies for teenagers! Does it still always smell of White Musk?!

How much is the Benetint copy? Have just had a little splurge in Mac and Urban Decay so I'd need it to be el-cheapo.

lou33 · 02/03/2009 21:18

cant recall how much the body shop tint is, but if it is the lip and cheek tint i bought a while ago, the taste of it was like soap, i couldnt use it

twinsetandpearls · 02/03/2009 21:29

The body shop one is about £10 it is not as good as the benefit one but quite good, Jodie Kidd?? does one as well that you can buy in boots.

Years ago I had a revlon one that was more of a gel that was even better for me that benetint but I cant get it now.

I may try the rebel lite lou as I have a darker one for the summer.

i have really pale skin and it does make me look better without looking obviously made up

twinsetandpearls · 02/03/2009 21:53

That is what i am after, I really like their base that comes in a record like compact but I go through it too quickly. get even it is called.

lou33 · 02/03/2009 21:56

i dont like wearing much make up especially foundation, so this suits me really well

a bit of that and some erase paste as concealer where its needed, is plenty as a base for me

TheMoistWorldOfSeptimusQuench · 02/03/2009 22:05

Another plug for Maybelline here. I've always used Clinque Almost make up, but picked up the Maybelline Liquid Minerals when the last lot ran out, as I was skint & it was on special offer in Boots. And it's really lovely - very smooth, nice natural finish. I'm using ivory 010 (I'm very pale and have always had difficulty finding light enough foundations before, but this is just right).

With regard to blushers, I love Benefit Dallas - gives a just a nice subtle hint of a glow. It's powder rather than a tint though - perhaps not what you're looking for.

twinsetandpearls · 02/03/2009 22:15

I love benefit dallas as well, am a benefit junkie

lou33 · 02/03/2009 22:21

i like benefit but i cant generally afford it

the you rebel i think is worth it though, lasts ages and you dont need much

lou33 · 02/03/2009 22:23

i did have a whole bottle of benetint too, til i knocked it over and the lid wasnt on, so now i have half a bottle

TheMoistWorldOfSeptimusQuench · 02/03/2009 22:24

Ooh yes me too. It's becoming an expensive habit though

Just discovered the creaseless cream eye colours. Birthday suit is lush.

High beam another fave.

I could go on..

hellymelly · 02/03/2009 22:31

I am very pale and I have recently bought the palest shade in the lilylolo range of mineral founations,I think it may be even a bit too pale and that is a first! They send out samples for 85p in a little bag so you can try the shades (lilylolo.co.uk I think) I saw it recommended by India Knight. It is really cheap and lasts ages.

twinsetandpearls · 02/03/2009 22:50

I will try a sample thanks for that helly

Benefit 15% off online code: BENESING in case that helps.

Haven't read all the thread so someone else might have said this but mineral make up is great for pale skin.
www.lilylolo.com do one called porcelain which is positively ghostly! I always used to just opt for the palest foundation in whichever range I was buying from but the Lilylolo porcelain was way too pale for me. they do one called Blondie which is pale but not chalk white!
Bare Escentuals do one called Fair which is really pale too.
If you don't want to go down the mineral route, Chanel does pale shades, as does Lancome. If you want cheap, I think Rimmel does a pretty pasty shade too
