I need to start wearing makeup to work (at least a little) if I move to new job. But can;t really be arsed.

Need a light foundation or tinted moisturiser with light to average coverage
Age 44
Skin reasonably good nick, inclined to be on the dry side typical english rose kind of coloring with faded freckles.
Easy to put on
I want to look slightly dewey (is that a word?)!

dior airflash

Nothing more needs to said .
Try it and see for yourself

TheThoughtPolice · 26/02/2009 15:06

Dior Diorskin Pure Light is the best. Sheer look but good coverage, comfortable, breathable, natural

Chanel made me look clammy faced and cakey.

I am a total convert to Dior make up, pricey but oh so worth it.

Dior also do a tinted moisturiser but I haven't tried it. I might buy some with my Advantage card points. Dior or Laura Mercier are out of your budget then I hear that Benefit tinted moisturiser is meant to be good too.

FriarKewcumber · 26/02/2009 15:10

well given hat I spend ... ohhhh £0 on make-up currently I think I can splash out on some good foundation , then dash of lippie and a bit of mascara and I'm done. Aren't I?

Am going to have to visit SpaceNK aren't I

I got some Infallible powder foundation recently. L'Oreal I think? Works well for me. My skin tone appears to be mainly blotch these days and this covers nicely.

TheThoughtPolice · 26/02/2009 15:16

Can't fat perople wear make up then ?

FriarKewcumber · 26/02/2009 15:20

No. It slides off when we sweat.

The sales assistants in Space NK are genuinely very friendly and helpful - don't be intimidated. They are a lot better than the gorgons ladies in Department Stores.

Plus, your money is as good as anyone else. They are shop assistants - not the fashion police.

TheThoughtPolice · 26/02/2009 15:27

LOL Kew

Those pesky Fashion Police, ideas above their tation

WouldYouCouldYouWithAGoat · 26/02/2009 15:28

[mops kewcumbers fevered brow] go and enjoy yourself.

becstarlitsea · 26/02/2009 15:34

Oh gawd bless you Kewcumber. If I won the lottery I'd move in to SpaceNK and buy one of everything...

They'll be delighted to see you - it's been deserted every time I've pressed my nose against the window of our local branch (not allowed to buy anything at the moment, no money.)

pinkspottywellies · 26/02/2009 15:35

YSL Perfect Touch. Comes with a brush and you squeeze the foundation through. It's not cheap but if you only use a small amount - which it sounds like you will - it'll last you about a year.

TheRealMrsJohnSimm · 26/02/2009 15:42

Another vote for Chanel Vitalumiere.

I also love Chanel's tinted moisturiser. Beautifully rich and gives the best coverage of any tinted moisturiser I have ever tried (previous buys have included No7 and Clinique). It also contains an SPF of 15.

FlorenceAndtheWashingMachine · 26/02/2009 19:06

The only think I spend £££ on is foundation and I wear Chanel Vitalumiere. It makes your skin look younger without being obviously made up.

I have always longed to try Georgio Armani's foundation as it always gets praise heaped on it in mags. Sadly, I don't think that Armani, Armani, Ah-Ah Armani want us northerners to have perfect skin as I can't find it up here.

Podrick · 26/02/2009 19:17

Chanel Vitalumiere

In a class of its own imo

brimfull · 26/02/2009 19:37

kew-spacenk is fab, don't be intimidated the girls are knowledgeable and not tied to one brand so you can try loads out.I go in and admit my ignorance and they love showing off their stuff.

Linwin · 26/02/2009 20:18

Laura Mercier is fab - I have pale as anything skin and its the only thing that I can get to match my skintone and provide good coverage

cherryblossoms · 26/02/2009 20:27

FriarKewcumber - you must overcome your trepidation and go to SpaceNK. Line up a free makeover with one of the assistants. They will use any of the make-up lines in the store. Make it clear that you are afeared and tell them you're unlikely to buy anything there and then - you need time to think! They won't mind; they're used to it.

I love Laura Mercier. It is such easy make-up to use. You can buy a foundation/tinted moisturiser. Their new lip glosses are brilliant too - not gloopy - just dewy. And the assistants can pick you out one that looks natural, ie you - but shinier.

Dewy is what Laura Mercier specialises in. They will try to induct you into the mysteries of "secret camouflage" but don't go there until you are more confident. The tinted moisturiser is all you need right now. Though I would recommend that you get them to show you the cunning under-the-eyelashes technique with eyeliner.

FriarKewcumber · 26/02/2009 23:09

OK I will be brave and try to fin time to visit SpaceNK on Saturday...

chanel vitalumiere, just thought I'd put my vote in.

Ronaldinhio · 26/02/2009 23:13

chanticaille get it in space nk

I still haven't found anything better

hoxtonchick · 27/02/2009 00:04

do go to space nk, but you'll have to brave a department store for a chanel concession with vitalumiere...

higgle · 27/02/2009 07:33

Surprised not to have seen a mention for Stila illuminating make up yet - I use the "30 watt" shade and find it light, easy to apply and gives a lovely dewy moist finish- avaialble at spaceNK and recommended to me when I asked for advice.

piratecat · 27/02/2009 07:39

i use clarins

one tube lasts me a yr!!

ZacharyQuack · 27/02/2009 07:42

Lots of good foundation recommendations here.

My recommendation is primer. Laura Mercier is the rolls royce, Clarins do a lovely one in a little red pot, MAC Prep + Prime is great too.

Primer helps your foundation go on smoothly and evenly, so you (might) use less. It helps stop shine if you're sweaty and generally makes it last longer and look fresher.

FriarKewcumber · 28/02/2009 18:39

OK so I was broave - dumped DS with my mum and went to Space NK. They were lovely a relaly very much more ordinary that the mannequins in department stores.

And the winner is...

Ronaldinhio with chanticaille tinted moisturiser in Alabaster (no primer needed apparently) then she conned persuaded me into nuying an undereye concealer wand thinge in a brand I'd never heard (Terry somethign?) which shesaid was also great for corws feet (though she was kind enough to call tehm laughter lines)

Then picked me out a fantastic colour lipstick by Laura Mercier which was worth the visit alone so of course I had to buy that too.

She wants me back to buy some bronzer and blusher when I've got used to buying the foundation.

I have to say that even with no eye make-up just a bit of mascara I looked surprisingly polished.

SO now the question is - can I carry it off myself (she says the tinted moisturiser is foolproof) and can I get up 5 minutes earlier to do it.

RThank you all - it was just the push I needed.
