I have been looking for a new mac for about three years now!

I know the style I need to wear, like the one in this link (ie single breasted, big collar, soft material)
www.topshop.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?beginIndex=0&viewAllFlag=&catalogId=19551&s toreId=12556&categoryId=130044&parentcategoryrn=42347&productId=1068179&langId=-1

but need a stronger colour like navy/purple/dark taupe, which has proved really hard to find.

Please help, my only spring coat is looking very sad and tatty now...

Oh I like that. it would be fab in RED

SuzeMcG · 21/02/2009 19:42

Gap has purple trench coats at the moment.

BonsoirAnna · 21/02/2009 21:39

This mac is gorgeous.

BonsoirAnna · 21/02/2009 21:40

I meant the funnel neck one.

Pannacotta · 22/02/2009 00:00

Thanks will have a look in Gap.
Dont look great in funnel neck sadly, my shoulders are too wide.

I was in Oxford Street t'other day and was amazed at different macs/trenches in the window of Primark. They looked so expensive. But as its their flagship store, they may not have filtered down into other branches yet.

Pannacotta · 22/02/2009 16:26

Thanks mrsmaidamess but cannot bring myself to shop in Primark.
WIll look in Gap though.
Any other suggestions?

How about this, or is it too muted a colour?

JackieNo · 22/02/2009 16:37

Purple , but not sure the collar's right, is it?

mrsmaidamess · 22/02/2009 16:39

I think that purple one would work if you had the neck open. You always find good things Jackie. Respect is due!

JackieNo · 22/02/2009 16:48

'Mocha'
Lovely colour, but probably too pale, not versatile enough, I suspect.

JackieNo · 22/02/2009 17:00

Dark green? Very in for this year, apparently .
Bit of Boden - comes in navy or green. But possibly rather longer than you want?

AuntieMaggie · 22/02/2009 17:06

I bought a fab one in Evans last week - but that only helps if you're a size 14 or over.

in green

in red

blueshoes · 22/02/2009 17:25

Lipsy - in blue

Nezzi · 22/02/2009 17:31

How about this?
It doesn't have a collar but it is bold and very cheery spring like, soft & single breasted too. The picture doesn't really do it justice. Please be kind other MNs, I bought this 2 weks ago & I think it's lovely, can't wait for the weather to warm up so I can wear it.

blueshoes · 22/02/2009 17:33

John Lewis - in Stone

blueshoes · 22/02/2009 17:49

Next - in red

Next - in light green

Pannacotta · 22/02/2009 17:52

Wow, loads of replies, thanks!
Really like the Dotty P one JackieNo, great cplour, plus the blue Lipsy one blueshoes linked to, that looks the best style wise for my figure I think.
Can you only get Lipsy on line?
Will go and try the Dotty P one on, I don't tend to look great in double breasted but that one does look flattering.
Am 10-12 so Evans is out thanks anyway AuntieM.

And Nezzi yours is lovely, gorgeous colour, but I need a collar, am quite straight up and down and a wide collar stops me from looking too masculine.

BonsoirAnna · 22/02/2009 18:03

I think this mac is super feminine and I would wear it only I already have something similar (and I am a similar size to you, slim, straight up and down and broad in the shoulder).

Pannacotta · 22/02/2009 18:57

That is nice Anna, bu thow do you get it on? It looks quite sporty, was hoping to find something chic/elegant which I can throw over my everyday clothes to make me look a bit smarter...

OP posts:
BonsoirAnna · 22/02/2009 20:02

I think it is what is termed sport-chic - and it is more youthful than a traditional mac, which is something I personally wouldn't wear as being too aging. Yes, you pull it over your head (I have a cool Napapijri one and it isn't a problem to take on and off).

BonsoirAnna · 22/02/2009 20:17

There were some shiny bright pink jackets in a similar style to the yellow one in Gap a few weeks back. They were a quite convincing rip off of a S/S09 Marni jacket .

Pannacotta · 22/02/2009 20:21

I do like it but really hate putting things on over my head.
Am very claustraphobic so maybe that's the problem.
I know what you mean about macs being aging, need to make sure I find one which is fresh looking, not too "classic"...
Thanks though.

BonsoirAnna · 22/02/2009 20:24

I like this mac except for the bow at the neck but I am sure that you could have that removed. Definitely more youthful than a classic mac.
