Please help me find a lovely mac for spring!

I have been looking for a new mac for about three years now!

I know the style I need to wear, like the one in this link (ie single breasted, big collar, soft material)
www.topshop.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?beginIndex=0&viewAllFlag=&catalogId=19551&s toreId=12556&categoryId=130044&parentcategoryrn=42347&productId=1068179&langId=-1

but need a stronger colour like navy/purple/dark taupe, which has proved really hard to find.

Please help, my only spring coat is looking very sad and tatty now...

When I zoom, it looks as if you could just pull the tie out of the neck completely.

K999 · 22/02/2009 20:26

Dont know if anyone has said it yet but Hobbs have lovely macs..

BonsoirAnna · 22/02/2009 20:28

This mac is the best of the Hobbs bunch, IMO.

BonsoirAnna · 22/02/2009 20:30

Nice bag from Hobbs, too - if you want an outfit .

Pannacotta · 22/02/2009 21:06

Hobbs is a good idea, hadnt thought to check their range.
The links are only to general pages though so not sure which mac/bag you meant Anna?

I like the Felicity wrap coat, like the simple style, but it needs shortening, looks bit old fashioned at that length.

Yes, I liked the Felicity Wrap Coat best, and the Large Hampstead Bag in raspberry.

Penthesileia · 23/02/2009 09:43

Anna - what do you think of this jacket? I can't decide if I like it, and the short sleeves... Hmmm... Help me, oh style guru.

Also - you enabler, you - just how much are Delvaux bags (after you mentioned them on another thread), because I can't stop looking at this one, and the lack of price, I fear, can only be A Bad Thing.

Sorry OP - but you may like the Jaeger jacket!

BonsoirAnna · 23/02/2009 10:04

Penthesileia - in all honesty, I really don't like the green Jaeger jacket - neither the colour nor the overly fussy detail (pockets etc) and I don't think the short sleeves are practical at all. Sorry . But if you have £200 to spend on a SS09 jacket, you should have plenty of choice. Have you looked at MaxMara? Similar to Jaeger but generally a bit more up to the minute.

I don't know how much Delvaux bags are off hand, but I can look around and try to find out.

BonsoirAnna · 23/02/2009 10:06

Your Delvaux bag is very pretty - if you click on e-shop on the site there is a customer service telephone number, just ring and ask for the price.

Penthesileia · 23/02/2009 10:09

Yes, I wasn't sure, which is clearly a sign... I haven't got a lightweight jacket at all, but want something reasonably fashionable, brightly coloured - and waterproof! I think I will peruse some of the offerings on this thread...

I am too scared to phone customer services. I'm afraid they'll laugh at me when I choke at the price.

BonsoirAnna · 23/02/2009 10:11

I love the yellow Aubin and Wills jacket one that I linked to - very feminine but still practical. MaxMara is always fabulous for coats though - they have such a huge market share that the quality is excellent for the price.

Nezzi · 23/02/2009 10:22

Oo Pent that is a great bag, a bit big but looks luxurious! And so it should, 1850 euros
Bonsoir are you a professional shopper?

Penthesileia · 23/02/2009 10:23

Just clicked on it: that is nice.

I wonder if it would suit me, and do you think it would "last" (fashion-wise) for more than a year?

I'm 30, so want something reasonably 'youthful' (and like bright colours), but I'm a size 8-10 hourglass (5' 8", broad shoulders, 35-26-37 measurements): do you think this style is suitable?

Thanks for your advice.

BonsoirAnna · 23/02/2009 10:23

LOL not exactly but my DP and I have both worked in retail (different capacity) for years and we spend much of our time looking at shopping from all sorts of perspectives...

BonsoirAnna · 23/02/2009 10:25

Yes, I think it would be fine for more than a year THOUGH I do live by the mantra of few clothes per season, wear them to death and start again the following year as far as possible (coats tend to last more than a year, sadly, however hard I try).

BonsoirAnna · 23/02/2009 10:25

As for your body shape, sounds fab you can wear ANYTHING.

Penthesileia · 23/02/2009 10:26

Nezzi - you are clearly smarter than me, and went to Eshop to find the price! 1850 euros! Good thing though: at that price, I can't even begin to think about it!

TracyK · 23/02/2009 10:27

I almost bought a lovelymac out of New Look - it was a charcoal big check with a shot of purple through it. It wasn't particularly well made around the collar - I think it could have done with another row of stitching and I couldn't be arsed to take it to mil to get it done - but it was a nice mac.

www.newlook.co.uk/women/jackets_and_coats/CategoryListLanding.aspx

This one looks nice on the model - then you can click onto the coats page and see the others.

Nezzi · 23/02/2009 10:27

Pent there is an E-shop where you can look for prices without having to call customer services.

TomNook · 23/02/2009 10:27

That bow one is like a pacamac

Nezzi · 23/02/2009 10:29

I see you've found it. Must up my typing speed

Penthesileia · 23/02/2009 10:29

X-post.

Thank you, Anna! You are very kind.

Not everything, I find. Boyish styles (hence my concern about this sporty style) often look a bit odd on me: I'd like to be willowy and straight up and down!

Gosh - am I going to buy this coat, then? It would be useful. It is very wet here...

MadameCastafiore · 23/02/2009 10:29

next

This one looks good fun - the picture in the directory is much better than on the website.

Millets also sell Cath Kidson ones that are nice too.
