Leather/Wet look leggings... really, who wears them?

OracleInaCoracle · 17/02/2009 09:21

and with what?

my ultra-glam lil sis wears hers with platforms and a bardot style jumper and doesnt care that she is perhaps a tad too curvy to wear them, therefore she looks great! but ive been looking at them and i really dont know why the designer hates women so much!

Twiglet legged 19 year old students who think they are being a bit edgy...and they probably look good in them.

I, however, am 37 and didn't look great in leggings the first time round.

There is always something around that can only be worn by the under 25s....it's the fashion law.

TheRealMrsJohnSimm · 17/02/2009 09:24

Posh Spice.
Olsen Twins
........are you building up a picture of who they are designed for now??

Nezzi · 17/02/2009 09:27

Ooo, I really don't like them, regardless of how beautiful the wearer is.
Big fashion no no in my humble opinion

OracleInaCoracle · 17/02/2009 09:57

lol, see im 31 bur vv slim and petite. however i would rather spend the rest of my life in a florescent green shell suit and stilettos than touch them!

Leather trousers, denim skirts, RaRa skirts -there are just some things that no one over 21 should wear.

harleyd · 17/02/2009 10:06

divers?

TheCrackFox · 17/02/2009 10:10

They can't be very hygenic fanjo wise.

Nezzi · 17/02/2009 10:33

LOL! at crackfox

superdenki · 17/02/2009 11:20

I think they look amazing on the right girls - 19 size 6s with great fashion hair. Unfortunately, the wrong girls also want to wear them too.

cheesesarnie · 17/02/2009 14:36

im a size 6 trousers and wouldnt wear them.i think they make bulgy bits where there is not any.but at 30 i am most probably far too old.

not that id want too either.

janeite · 17/02/2009 14:41

God they're foul aren't they?

Younger than 18 years old, size 6 or smaller girls can look good in leggings, especially if worn in a sort of art-studenty rag-tag eighties Westwood kind of way, or with a mini skirt over. Anybody else (and this seemed to be half the female population of Birmingham city centre this morning) - step away from the leggings NOW!

TheRealMrsJohnSimm · 17/02/2009 14:41

I do think they look fab on the right figure but you do have to be super cool and young to get away with them OR supremely confident and "edgy". And fgs cover up your ass with a loose jumper or top! Perish the thought of camels toe in a pair of those!!

ABetaDad.....do you really think women over 21 should never wear a denim skirt???

And I have to say I did fall in love with the leather skinny trousers shown on the catwalks AW08/09 by Givenchy (iirc). Worn in a very chic-goth style with big knitwear or blazers and tons of bling. They looked very funky and very wearable - even for those of us over the age of 21 !!!!

UnquietDad · 17/02/2009 14:45

Come on, BetaDad, what about The Carols (Vorderman and Smillie)? Both in their 40s and both look utterly fanciable in the old LTs.

cheesesarnie · 17/02/2009 14:46

'utterly fanciable' lol.what a sweet saying.mr depp is utterly fanciable imo.

UnquietDad · 17/02/2009 14:50

Even that scraggy old piece of biltong Madonna can look good in leather trousers... of course she wouldn't wear real leather, would she?...

MrsMattie · 17/02/2009 14:53

Nobody over the age of about 19 / over a size 10 should. They are vile full stop, imo. I wish mainstream fashion could be elegant and feminine, rather than making the vast majority of women look like sausage stuffing.

Leather trousers just make me cringe! They scream 'I desperately want to look sexy but unfortunately the raging BV I have developed as a result of wearing these means I am anything but', to me.

solidgoldbullet4myvalentine · 17/02/2009 14:57

Oh I wear stuff like that lots when going clubbing. I am in my 40s and a size 16 or thereabouts. But then I go to fetish and swingers clubs where most people are comfortable with themselves whatever shape and size they are, and not interested in the woman-hating fashion industry telling people they are Not Allowed this that or the other.
Mundanes often criticize my dress sense, but I don't give a toss what they think. WHy should I?

OracleInaCoracle · 17/02/2009 16:24

see, my normal dress sense is on the quirky side. lots of smocks and thick tights and chunky jewellary, but i just dont have the confidence to wear leggings. i remember them 1st time round (under denim rara skirts with braces) and think thats the golden rule. if you remember it from "before" and you wore them in your teens, dont try it again!

cyteen · 17/02/2009 16:39

i saw a 6 year old wearing some this morning...

LittleMissBliss · 17/02/2009 16:47

I have a pair of them for going out, i wore them with some super high topshop platforms and and a taylord smock top (past bum) and chunky pearls. I'm 22, arty and have a fro! I got loads of compliments (from women and men) so ner ner ner na!

suwoo · 17/02/2009 16:49

I'm wearing the maternity ones!

OracleInaCoracle · 17/02/2009 17:34

ah littlemiss, but you are a good age to wear them and that way sounds v cool!

suwoo, what about the thrush-factor

OP posts:
suwoo · 17/02/2009 20:07

OracleInaCoracle · 18/02/2009 08:52
