and with what?

my ultra-glam lil sis wears hers with platforms and a bardot style jumper and doesnt care that she is perhaps a tad too curvy to wear them, therefore she looks great! but ive been looking at them and i really dont know why the designer hates women so much!

UnquietDad - no and definitely no... and definitley not in leather trousers.

TheRealMrsJohnSimm - no a denim skirt is just too young for a woman over 21.

The truth is that some clothes on an older woman just scream desperation. I like a woman who is comfortable in her own skin and does not feel she has to dress like she is ten years below her real age.

A woman can be physically atractive and show her feminine shape without wearing teenager clothes.

I'm sorry ABetaDad but I think your statement is total bullshit.

I don't consider a denim skirt to be an item of "teenager clothing".

I agree that some women can look desperate in certain items of clothing but I think its more to do with attitude and how you wear/style these items. There is no "use by date" on any item of clothing (except perhaps romper suits ........oh and the aforementioned leather/wet look leggings!!)

I choose to wear clothes because I love them. I am more than comfortable in my own skin and am as comfortable wearing Top Shop as I am wearing Paul Smith.

I've seen quite a few women in these now (wet-look leggings, not denim skirts).

The most interesting was a woman I would guess to be early thirties and her "look" was Audrey Hepburn/Chanel-ish; very neat, very tailored jacket, neat blouse, fashion-conscious shoes and a silk scarf.

She looked good - conceptually interesting, neat and with a hint, not a dollop, of sexiness.

She also had a great figure. There is no way on earth I could have pulled that look off.

Denim skirts - They are a Cath Kidston and a Gap staple. I suspect you may be misreading the sartorial semiotics on this one, ABetaDad! Or maybe just reading it in a different way to we denim-skirt-wearers-of-a-certain-age!

One of the Schoolgate Mums I know, of nearly 40, looks great in a denim skirt! It's one of those "frayed" effect ones too. She wears it with black tights and boots, and some sort of jacket and scarf and top. Forgive me, I wasn't looking properly above the waist...

Is Mundanes fashion-speak or swinger-speak? Or both?

TheRealMrsJohnSimm · 18/02/2009 23:36

Cherry Blossoms - I totally get the Chanel/Audrey Hepburn take on wet-look leggings that you encountered and I think it goes to show that if they are styled correctly they can look fab.

But they still (sadly) wouldn't be for me. Am size 8 but just wouldn't have the attitude to pull them off.

Katy Perry on the Brit Awards tonight - at least, i think that's what she was wearing, she looked like she had spray-on Batman rubber legs so I guess so. Urgh.

OracleInaCoracle · 19/02/2009 10:05

therealmrsjohnsimm, thats what im like too. v petite size 6-8 and have ok legs, but just dont have the right attitude to wear them.

I wear short dresses and skirts (yes even denim skirts) qute a bit, but they have to be quirky rather than sexy. some people are sexy, others arent.

and i still cant stand the leggings. looked at a pair this morning and shuddered!
