Ok - so what's the oldest item of clothing that own that you still wear.......

just seen the jeans thread - none of mine are that old by any stretch of the imagination - think the oldest is about 3 months old .

BUT - I do have some clothes which I've had for a VERY long time........pair of pyjamas, still has my name in them from when I had them at school, the elasticated waist is rather stretched now................and the label







10-12yrs!!!................I'm 26 now - the top 'nearly' bursts open with the buttons, but still very comfortable

Until my boobies grew hoooge after DD, I had a t-shirt from when I was 5 that I still wore

Now, not a lot... I think the oldest is my richie sambora top from summer '99.

I've got jumpers from when I was at uni (12 years ago at the latest), that I still wear regularly. I don't have many clothes, I'm more of a shoe person.

Other than my 10 yr old jeans on the other thread, I have a 12 year old top that I bought from Leeds market for £2. Bought it new, I should add, not old. It refuses to wear out or fade, and still looks OK if you like stripes, which I do.

I have a man's Pringle jumper that I still wear that's about 10 years old - one of the few items that can accomodate my extra 2 stone

I have loads of clothes that are more than 10 yrs old. I have a couple of big aran style jumpers about 10 yrs old, cowboy boots that I wear A LOT that are 15 yrs old, I still have the outfit I wore the night I met dh (I can get one leg into the skirt but... ;) That is nearly 10 yrs old. I have dresses from before dh (not that I wear them really, but I am loathe to get rid) I have socks (!) Lots of shoes/boots.

I think the cowboy ones are the oldest thing that I actually wear

I have a mickey mouse t shirt muscle beach grey marl sort of cropped thing , think it was my dads PMSL(he liked wieght training in it!!!!) , we got it in Disney early 80s!!! So must be 20 years old !!

At my pal's house a few months ago, she dug out some old pics for us all to have a giggle at. They were at least 10 years old and I was wearing the same blouse as I had on in the pics!!!

#didn't even like it that much so tis consigned to charity bag.

The oldest thing I have that I actually wear is a coat from the winter I was pg with DS2 (It?s a bit big really and i only wore it in early pg) he?s 2 btw; oh, and a dress which I wore to dd?s christening three years ago which I wore the other evening so it just rescued itself from the chuck-out pile.
(But, whisper it, i do still have a skirt-belt thing I used to wear from when I first met dh, about 13 yrs ago, which I only keep because he admired me in it and won?t let me throw it out)

lary - have you never noticed that fashion repeats itself. I remember 'boot-cut' from the first time - we called them flares back in the 70's.

Iota, but have you noticed that the fashion that comes back is never quite the same...also can you bear to wear it again? I?m certainly not going to don a tiered skirt the like of which I last wore when Prince Charles was last married. Might buy one for DD tho....

I have a coat which is 20 years old. It cost me a fortune at the time I remember but I thought it was worth it because it is such a classic. Even now when I wear it I still get asked where I bought it and get lots of compliments.
Actually, when I think about it, most of my clothes are at least 5 years old but I don't really buy 'fashion' items but more 'classic' stuff which never dates - I think I might be showing my age here!

I have a classic dress from Whistles that is about 10 years old. It's just a very long plain blue jersey shift, sleeveless. Covers all lumps and bumps, saw me through a very hot summer pregnancy and still looks good now. Love it and will never throw it out

it's not really a fashion issue with me, more that a) my clothes all fall apart (always seem to get holes in my trouser knees!) and b) my size has changed so much that anything pre-pg would be no use anyway, far too big.
Having said that the dress I have on today does date from at least 4 yrs ago, I remember wearing it before dd (4 in June) was born....

I don't wear them but I've still got all my old clothes, well the best of them, all packed in a suitcase for lottie to dress up in or just to laugh at. My school shirt, signed on the last day by everyone, my jean paul gaultier bustier thing, marble wash dress (! LOL), silver jeans, ripped jeans with saftey pins, kipper tie, acid rave bandana, first ever black stilletos, my old ripped faded Lee Denim jactet, leather jeans, leather waistcoat, hippy tie dye tops, my white jodphurs, all the different stages of my life, all tell a story and mean something.

I've got some socks that I bought in Next 20 years ago, and they're still going strong, not a hint of a hole- I wear them at least once a week.

I've just consigned a 20 year old coat to the charity bag, because I couldn't bear the shoulder pads anymore. Went out and bought an almost identical one, but without the pads!

Dd has an old vest top of mine, that must be 25 years old. When she first went to nursery they asked me to give them something that smelled of me, to soothe her if she cried, and I just whipped it off...now she's too big for a blankie she likes to wear it as a kind of tabard over her clothes!

Ooh yes, vests...I've got three wool and silk vests that I bought when I was a student (- should have spent my grant money on books)and they're still in very good condition- they get wheeled out every winter and are lovely and warm.

Ahh, yes but Clary, they are at my mums house in a suitcase, not here cluttering up the house , not yet anyway
