Help Please, I need to find an outfit I can breastfeed in for my brother's wedding

My brother's getting married in April this year, my baby is only 14 weeks old so I've got some baby weight to lose mostly around my tummy area (I'm a size 14 now, used to be a 12). I've been looking at dresses but I don't see how I will be able to breastfeed in them.... help please!

anything with a top that can be lifted up. IME, the breastfeeding tops and dresses always showed much more skin than just a usual top lifted up.

How about a nice skirt and top from Monsoon or somewhere?

peachface · 10/02/2009 14:34

or something with buttons and then a beautiful shawl to drape over baby for privacy

browny · 10/02/2009 14:37

Thanks Tommy, I'll have a look on Monsoon's website, peachface, that's a good idea but I'm having a realy problem to find a dress with buttons, I like the shawl idea too... especially as it'll be chilly in April .

discretely untie halterneck?

Disenchanted3 · 10/02/2009 14:39

LBD halter

browny · 10/02/2009 14:44

Dishenchanted.. gorgeous, but I'd be petrified of flashing both of my boobs by accident [blush, I'm not that good at discreet breastfeeding yet.

sorry, but no to dresses of all sorts . even halternecks. you need a top and skirt or trousers. also more likely to fit you later when you change shape

i have been bf for the last 4 1/2 years so consider myself expert at being discrete but would not consider a dress

Disenchanted3 · 10/02/2009 14:49

jacket here??

MrsBadger · 10/02/2009 14:55

no no no to halters
worst thing possible

dresses not much better and of limited use once no longer feeding

get a skirt, a camisole and a wraparound cardigan

to feed, hitch up camisole and let cardi cover tummy

browny · 10/02/2009 14:56

Gorgeous colour Disenchanted..Kristina, I know what you mean about needing a top, I suppose it would be easier just to pull it up rather than have to drap a shawl around us... I really wanted to wear a posh frock too .

lovely wrap blouse from Laura Ashley - the wrap bit will help with the baby bulge too

Kew are good for wrap things too

francagoestohollywood · 10/02/2009 15:05

I'm not suggesting this as the price is extortionate, but wouldn't something like this be incredibly sophisticated for a wedding?

francagoestohollywood · 10/02/2009 15:06

(I mean the skirt, not the whole combo)

LittleMissBliss · 10/02/2009 15:16

isabella oliver nursing dress?

MrsBadger · 10/02/2009 15:21

hmm - too officey IMO Franca
but yes very sophisticated

LittleMissBliss · 10/02/2009 15:22

would you like something floaty instaed maybe floral?

Notevenfunny · 10/02/2009 15:22

How about one of these under a skirt and top or jacket you already have ?

francagoestohollywood · 10/02/2009 15:29

Yes, it is too "severe" for a wedding. Mind you, I've never been to a wedding in the uk, I'm a bit clueless! But it's always fun to check net a porter and at the prices

LittleMissBliss · 10/02/2009 15:29

how about this with some amazing earrings and fab shoes to jazz it up, good price too!

BonsoirAnna · 10/02/2009 15:29

You could wear a dress like this with dull gold shoes and a dull gold bag. Very spring like .

LittleMissBliss · 10/02/2009 15:32

this is pretty and would look lovely if you have red or blonde hair

browny · 10/02/2009 15:35

LittleMissBliss, I'd love something floral and floaty, have you anything in mind and I love the blue dress you linked too, I'll have a look at the other links now too, thank you so much for your help, please keep your suggestions coming .

NB if you are still carrying baby weight round your middle be very wary of combination maternity/nursing dresses

what clings seductively to a firm bump and makes a pg woman look luscious and goddessy will cling less seductively to postpartum wibbley bits.
Often something mroe tailored and less stretchy is a better idea, or something with a more forgiving cut like the shirt dress Anna suggested (particularly good if your legs are good)

francagoestohollywood · 10/02/2009 15:38

Yes, I agree with MrsB, I think floaty can be unforgiving on a post baby body shape (I know it from experience... ).
I've been made a broody by all these pics of pg ladies wearing lovely dresses though.

LittleMissBliss · 10/02/2009 15:44

I'm still looking for floral. I think spanx are the way forward for those wobbly bits they hide a multitude of sins! Everyone will be complimenting you on your fab post baby body
