My SIL gave me a copy of their new catalogue and I have seen some nice things that I would quite like but can't decide if they are really worth the price.

not IMO

andiem · 10/02/2009 14:01

wait for the sale that's what I do

KingCanuteIAm · 10/02/2009 14:03

No - I ordered a dress in the sale and was still mighty unimpressed with the quality/value ratio. Fit was dreadful, cut was badly thought out and the material was just "ok".

I am quite sure I will be shot down in flames though

SoupDragon · 10/02/2009 14:04

Only ever worth it in the sale and then not always.

wools · 10/02/2009 14:05

I agree with Andiem. The sales are the best time to buy Boden.

SoupDragon · 10/02/2009 14:05

and even then, not always.

I've had good stuff & bad stuff - the boys jersey lined trousers were fab in the snow as, even through the outside was sodden, the lining was dry. My raincoat was not rainproof and the pocket got a hole in it.

Children's clothes, yes. If bought second-hand in good condition at vastly reduced prices on eBay (or if you're lucky enough to get the serious reductions in the sale). Otherwise, no.

blametheparents · 10/02/2009 14:07

SOme things are good, others not so good.

I do not like their t-shirts or long sleeved t-shirts. They are much more expensive than other brands, and not fantastic quality as you would expect for the price.

However, I do really like their fleeces and sweatshirts. My DS has worn his fleece for 3 year, and it is still in lovely condition. My DD has also had great wear out of her fleece.

Can't vouch either way for the trousers, have never bought any.

DS's denim shorts have lasted brilliantly too.

VinegarTits · 10/02/2009 14:07

middle class burberry imo

i wouldnt pay their prices

choosyfloosy · 10/02/2009 14:08

i would always snap up mini boden second hand as they last and last and last - ds is only just growing out of one top i bought him (sale price) i think something like three years ago (it was enormous!)

can't pay the full prices so it's not an issue.

SheherazadetheGoat · 10/02/2009 14:08

worth it in the sale cos you don't have to go into a shop and the website is v. good. knitwear is shite. trews are good, coats are good. avoid anything hotpotch or fun unless you are a 'crazy' kinda gel. swimsuits look horrendous on me and i have a decent rack.

andlipsticktoo · 10/02/2009 14:10

If you have more than 1 dc then yes.

I have 3 dss and every Boden item I have bought has lasted for all three, despite very heavy wear and tear!

I always try to buy in the sale but quite often get good offers on 'hotukdeals' like 20% of plus free p+p.

I find boys clothes pretty dull in general, and Boden offer something a little different. Yes pricey, but great quality. Have only bought myself the odd item as I can't justify the price just for me...

ConnorTraceptive · 10/02/2009 14:10

Quite relieved actually - can recycle catalogue and put away credit card!!

have got a few good bargains in the sale - half price dresses and so on which are lovely but I wouldn't pay full price although I am tempted by the towelling hoodies for the DSs.

cariboo · 10/02/2009 14:11

No. Sorry Johnny but seriously, prices too high for hotch-potchy cotton & also most of us are over 18 & don't look like models. Or do I speak for myself?

ConnorTraceptive · 10/02/2009 14:12

LOL @ middle class burberry. Actual SIl has a burberry handbag

ConnorTraceptive · 10/02/2009 14:14

I would find it really hard to justify the full prices so I buy stuff in the sale.

The prices are about the same as Monsoon I find, and the things I've bought have been better quality than Monsoon by a long way.

barbarapym · 10/02/2009 16:27

I think it's a bit mixed, like anywhere. Worth a go if you can get free p and p and returns thru mumsnet.

Kids swimming costumes look gorgeous but don't last - they're made of old fashioned thick cottony stuff that fades. DD's£3.50 Sainsbury's one has lasted much better than her £14 Boden one bought at the same time. DS's Boden school coat, on the other hand, has lasted 3 years and is ready to be passed down, and it still looks as new.

Gone right off Boden lately for me tho - horrible colours and anorexic looking models in the last catalogue, and the one dress I was tempted by was £89...Sales are good but they never seem to have my sizes or colours when they're on!

(I have had some lovely second hand Boden though, as a lot seems to turn up in the charity shop at the end of our road. My neighbours must be more minted than me...at those prices, it's great!)

Penthesileia · 10/02/2009 17:08

No. Only in the sale - sometimes.

PestoDrizzleMonster · 10/02/2009 17:11

The childrens stuff tends to be very good quality and lasts forever. As I have 2 dds I am also fortunate as I can pass stuff down too.

alicecrail · 10/02/2009 17:12

I really love their designs but can't afford them really, but have taken up dress making so can copy all the good bits and make sure clothes fit. Hurrah!

Frasersmum123 · 10/02/2009 17:16

If your a larger topped lady like me (14) then the fit is not so great. The only item I have purchased was a knitted jumper and it went bobbly very quickly.

Also, I like their jeans (a friend has a pair), but they are only for long-legged beings!

frogs · 10/02/2009 18:19

Buying boden (kids only, adults stuff nasty imo) in charity shops or on ebay can be great -- tho' watch out for ebay hysteria, sometimes second-hand stuff can go for more than new sale stuff.

If you're really lucky you can then resell it on ebay when the kids have grown out of it and recoup your initial outlay or even make a profit.
