Are Boden clothes worth the money???

My SIL gave me a copy of their new catalogue and I have seen some nice things that I would quite like but can't decide if they are really worth the price.

Ah, you see the adult size trousers are too short for me [5'11" emoticon].

Onlyaphase · 10/02/2009 18:23

All the bags I've bought from Boden have been good quality and worth the money, likewise the girls' clothes and stuff for babies. Other things can be a bit random - velvet coat was lovely, still fine 2.5 years later and get frequent compliments on it even now, dresses and trousers aren't good on me at all.

It varies wildly. Some are.. yet other stuff is trash. I am a fan of spots so they do cater for me in that respect. I also like the standard cotton summer a-line skirts. And the rainy day mac has been a godsend, as you can't carry an umbrella and push a pushchair.

I loathe the sombre, offensively sloganed mini-mugger look for boys as soon as they get to 5, so I buy quite a lot for my ds from the Boden sale which sees him through the year and often into the next; dd has a few pieces too. I have been disappointed with the women's wear.

ConnorTraceptive · 10/02/2009 19:20

I'm surpised at how many negative comments there have been but glad I asked!!!

I only buy in the sale. I would be incredibly pissed off if I'd paid full price and the button fell off my linen and wool suit as quickly as it did - as it was, I was mildly irritated.

I love Mini Boden for dd (and bought far too much of it in the sale)
Women's stuff though, I find mostly rubbish and just plain bizarre ie this jumper

SuzeMcG · 10/02/2009 19:39

Also love Mini Boden for my DD and bought a rosette cardigan for myself there recently, which I really like. But it is very hit or miss for adults.

beforesunrise · 10/02/2009 19:47

for children, yes, in the sales.

for adults- horrid, horrid, horrid.

bobdog · 10/02/2009 21:53

Not all the little girls stuff is pink.

Believe Mr Boden gave substantial donation & support to keep fox hunting legal. After I found that out, his cheery yummy mummy talk seemed rather hollow and have n't bought anything since.

pavlovthecat · 10/02/2009 21:55

They are, when you buy in a half price sale.

I just bought my first purchase, a lovely pair of purple/blue and light blue cord jeans for DD, hard wearing, funky, lovely, £9. And a green cord dress with a big flower on, £12, plus free postage courtesy of MN! Other than that, probably not.

pavlovthecat · 10/02/2009 22:00

Oh and yes, talking about Mini Boden, have never seen anything that remotely takes my fancy in the adult stuff.

Pinkchampagne · 10/02/2009 22:01

I bought Ds a pair of Boden sandals last summer & the buckle fell off after a couple of wears!

slackrunner · 10/02/2009 22:02

I love Mini Boden, but I think that the womens' clothes are pretty hideous.

I justify buying Boden for dd by selling it on eBay afterwards (it always sells for a decent price). In fact, if you've bought it in the sale, worn it, and then sell it on it can be pretty cost neutral.

WinkyWinkola · 10/02/2009 22:04

Only in the sale. I've bought lots of stuff that has loose buttons, holes in seams and is just cotton but costs a lot. It's silly really. Just shop Boden in the sales otherwise you will get hacked off as the quality isn't that great.

Bodders1 · 11/02/2009 19:38

Most of the baby and kids stuff is great altho pricey. The adults clothes are however a different story - vastly overpriced and the fit is often very odd. The stuff looks great in the catalogue but i would say i return at least 50% of what I order. Also, I once took my DH to the Boden "shop" in Ealing and he quickly pointed out that most of the stuff in there was made in China and not finished particularly well (compared to say Crew Clothing or even Gap) and therefore he could not see how they could get away with charging such high prices for Primark/Top Shop quality. A good tip is to read all the customer reviews on the Boden website before you buy an item! All of that said, i have a few quite nice Boden items which i do get compliments on...if in doubt, buy in the sale.

bodiddly · 11/02/2009 19:55

I have a few bits .. mostly tops and a couple of dresses which I have bought in the sales. They have all been great quality and have washed and washed without losing their shape or colour. I have also bought tops for ds in the sale which have also been great. Compared to the less expensive tops I have bought in next, M&S etc they are far superior quality. That said I can only afford to buy in the sale ....

Mumsnut · 11/02/2009 20:07

#10 off if you spend more than #30, plus free postage and returns. Code is TYOU. Worked yesterday.

hannahsaunt · 11/02/2009 20:23

Again I pretty much only shop in the sales and find it v good value then. And again, I have 3 boys and it washes and wears amazingly well despite v heavy use. Good boys clothes (in colour!) can be hard to find. I've only bought tops and jumpers for me (plus a coat which I adore) so couldn't comment on sizing for trousers and skirts. Do find it all lasts better (and is cheaper) than high street shops (if on sale)
